Okay so, talion asked me to advocate for him because he was kind enough to share info with me re. his source.

He does have a source. This source does not make Talion's word gospel, nor is his source infallible.

So my advice is to not outright ignore Talion. What he says re. spider-man casting is worth listening to, but IMO should not be the only thing that guides conversation on here.

Finally, whatever talion knows at time of writing is more or less exactly what we as a community know regarding spider-man casting. This may of course change in the future pending additional info from talion's source.

I think we should be open to competing viewpoints on here and should respect rational arguments, even if they turn out wrong.

He showed screen shots of correspondence between him and his source. It's honestly nothing earth shattering, but it's from a source (of sorts) all the same.

I know a number of Teen Wolf fans (well, I don't know if you would call them fans) that don't understand how he can film 5B of Teen Wolf with his current schedule. I can't imagine trying to fit in CW.

My point is there's a difference in being told these things as oppose to seeing something like a paparazzi type of picture of one of the actors leaving the studio where the time stamp is just a few days ago.

Maybe harryoscop is in charge of casting and making the announcement at Marvel. That's why we're having to wait so long. He keeps changing his mind several times a day when the rest of Marvel think they're finally done.

You're not much of a fan if you'll really let the actor affect you that much

You're right with me, in that regard. If Jeremy Renner was never cast in the MCU, I probably never would have gotten on the hype bandwagon to begin with. Now, I did see Ironman 1 and 2 and Thor because of a cousin dragging me, but we both skipped The Incredible Hulk because we hate Edward Norton. And wow, look at that, no more Hulk solo movies and Edward Norton was given the boot. Never underestimate the power, or lack there of, certain actors.

So, yeah, I'm not a fan of Spidey, because I just can't take any actor they throw at me and put some glasses or a costume on him and make me be a fan. I have to actually like the actor first before I can like the character in most instances. Not always the case, such as with Daredevil. Went in with prior knowledge that I thought the first movie sucked, and I hated Affleck in the role (but, I do like him as an actor, so there) but someone I never even heard of before, Charlie Cox, knocked that role out of the damn park. This is what I hope for Spider-Man, an unknown to me in the role that can knock it out of the park. I don't like O Brien, so I highly doubt he will knock it out of the park. If he gets cast, then I will just wait for the movie to come on Netflix to see it. But really, there is something about that guy that grates my last nerve.

Top 5, or "narrowed it down to 5" implies they are the top five in contention.

They are five names in serious contention, as are (presumably) the many others who've made it far enough where they may be invited to test. But make no mistake:

Until those who will screen test are chosen, there is no shortlist, and there is no top 5. There are probably WELL over a dozen actors still in contention.

Even if there were only four or five left, it's possible that this could happen:

Spider-Man role isn't cast, my friend. That "talking American" tweet from Asa wasn't from a test screening, the film that he was working on back then (the Tim Burton's one) he portrays an American kid.

The invites for the test screenings are going out soon. Asa Butterfield, Timothée Chalamet, Nat Wolff, Liam James and Tom Holland are the actors in the short list. That's - mostly - what I know.

Do you know whether other actors are being invited for screening? Or is it just those five? The Wrap seems to believe that there are more.

And The Wrap states none have screen tested yet, which means Marvel can still end up unimpressed with the crop of actors they have, and may reconsider the age restriction they've imposed on the casting net.

This place will be unbearable when Spider-Man is eventually cast and the actor isn't DOB.
But fear not, all will not be lost. In Back to the Future Eric Stoltz was brought in because Michael J Fox had commitments but after a few shots the filmmakers decided that Stoltz wasn't working out and so waited for MJF. So if DOB isn't cast don't give up, the person cast may SUCK during filming and DOB may STILL get in.

They (Feige/Pascal) are going to test the actors they get to death and whoever they go with is who they're gonna stick with.

They won't simply change their plans to accommodate an actor, I'm sure of that.

Pascal -- in particular -- made that mistake already and I'm sure she doesn't want to go through that again.

The actor we get is in for the long haul.
