Great performance (to me) in big budget movie Ender's Game
Great performance in X+Y

It's a really touch call.
Judging from that, Asa has the upper hand. I think the studios will plan to benefit from him being in X+Y too (a praised new film with him). Strike while the iron is hot, sort of.

Now that it's been said he may be in the top two, we're all just finding out now that there aren't really any flaws in him playing Peter Parker. He may not have had a comedy role yet, but he has a certain charisma and confidence about himself which is hard to see in Asa and could be used to pull off the motormouth role that Feige wants. He can definitely do the dramatic and nerdy side of Peter too.

Props to you guys who have been supporting him since the shortlist came out. Meanwhile, I have a new favourite for the role :D
I think this could happen with Isaac as well if he was said to be a serious contender. People will suddenly "switch" and start to root for him.
Don't dismiss the kid just because there aren't any talks about him being in the running.
Any day, there will be an official announcement. What if it's not not Asa, not Holland, none of the other three either? And the surprise casting, completely out of left field, is Isaac?
The other young "Starks" have films lined up (Sophie Turner is even a superhero). Could Isaac be saved for the biggest and most important role of them all?
We don't know. Everything is just speculation.

We've gone through so many actors and now it comes down to Asa and Tom according to the likely bs scoops. But if they do turn out to be true I'm thinking Asa has it in the bag.

If all the sources are all circling the same actors, then I can most definitely guarantee you that it is not BS.

It seems that most here weren't paying much attention to Holland, me included, when the shortlist was announced.

Thank you! I was supporting Tom before the shortlist came out. I think I was one of the first to mention him also

The only thing he'd need is a convincing American/NY accent and a pair of glasses (for flashbacks/opening sequence) and he's gold.

He used an American accent in The Heart of the Sea but, it's only a brief clip in the trailer. Wore glasses in How I Live Now

It's impressive that Tom Holland can do gymnastics but it's also totally irrelevant because they're still going to use a professional stunt man to do all of the stunts.

OK, I'm starting to warm up to Tom. Before I was leaning toward him merely because of looks, but I'm getting a better vibe here and he might be able to pull off the humor without sounding forced.

If someone were to "get" New York Jewish humor, wouldn't that be Logan Lerman, who is Jewish, as opposed to Dylan, who is not? Or is Los Angeles Jewish humor different than New York?

Or Timothée Chalamet, who is Jewish and from New York.

I see Dark Raven has already responded, but it's not just the Jewish attitude, but specific to the NYC metropolitan area. And that does not mean you have to be Jewish. I think being in the area, you sort of pick up by osmosis, as is the case of Peter Parker. As for Chalamet, I'm not familiar with his humor.

Yes I remember when someone posted this video one month or so ago:

And I thought that he should seriously be considered. It's crazy how much dedication he's putting into this, I don't think the interviews and this whole gymnastics preparation is just coincidence, this kid has been wanting this role for a LONG time. This is some VERY impressive stunt work here. Tougher than anything I've seen Andrew Garfield pull it off, and he became literally a stunt man in preparation for Spider-Man. This kid is just crazy. I have to give him that, no other actor seems to be more prepared than him. Seriously, not even Andrew Garfield could pull it off the type of things he keeps doing again and again for at least as long as I'm browsing his instagram pictures and videos.

I'm VERY impressed. I can see why Marvel and Sony would be too.

Those abilities certainly don't hurt his cause! :cwink:

What's wrong with Asa?

First of all, his look is less like Pete to me, and yes, that's primarily his blue eyes and thin frame. But, more than that, I get a more dry serious vibe from him, and don't know if he can pull off the fun loving quipster we yearn for the character.

The reddit boards are so funny. "Are Tom and Asa competing for second place?"

Whichever they don't cast as Peter, absolutely needs to be Harry Osborn. These two are too good to let one get away.

As already stated, Lerman may be Jewish, but he's not from New York, nor does he have substantial humor, let alone specific to the New York Jewish variety.

Tom Holland's dad is a comedian...maybe he learned something from him

If these two actors are the final two would be cool to have a poll to see which one comes out on top (in the eyes of Spider-Man fans). In the eyes of the general audience I think Asa would come out on top for simply being (relatively) well recognized.

I really think that's the only reason why Asa is leading the majority of polls. If Tom was in more prominent things than Asa, he would be leading.

I love how people go around defining whether Jews' sense of humor is properly "Jewish" or not. I would be offended if it wasn't so bizarre. And Dark Raven said the same thing about Andrew Garfield, who is also Jewish, so that makes at least three Jews who just don't have what they're looking for (are you by any chance the person who keeps casting non-Jew Jason Biggs as a Jew over and over again on a loop? That would explain a lot).

P.S., since you presumably don't know Lerman, Chalamet, or Garfield in real life, I doubt you can tell what their sense of humor is actually like.

Also, I think it's interesting Chalamet would be the only born New Yorker who could play Spider-Man. I like Tom Holland but it's sort of annoying that it's apparently come down to two British actors.

Nat Wolff was raised in New York, too (not born), but his father's Jewish family is from Mississippi and Louisiana, so presumably they tell redneck jokes at home instead.

Ugh if I had to choose between Butterfield and Holland I'd pick Butterfield simply because he's slightly better-looking and taller.

You know what let's compare them cause why not(plus I'm shallow lol).
Butterfield has distracting blue eyes, narrow shoulders and possible first signs of receding hairline.
Holland has distracting mole on his chin, curly hair and he's short.

They both suck but Butterfield is the lesser of two evils.
