Asa is my number one pick (by miles) but I have two concerns

1) Can he do an American accent?
Garfield grow up hearing American and so his American is flawless. Can Asa pull off the accent off someone from Queens?

2) Does he have comic timing?
I've now seen Asa in two movies (about to watch a third this week).
Haven't seen any humour or comic timing from him. That's not his fault as the roles didn't require him to be humorous.

What if he is picked, and it turns out that his American accent is off (even when people have coaches, sometimes they still don't sound totally convincing) and his humour seems stiff and forced? Do you still give him the benefit of the doubt?

Of course, there isn't much choice by that point, as he would be Spider-Man, unless there were a recast, which would not be desirable.

I doubt Asa will land the role if he doesn't match every criteria.

I dreamed the other night, that Thomas Sangster was cast.
Just wanted to tell you.

1. Asa Butterfield - Yesssss!
2. Dylan O'Brien - No doubt he could be great
3. Logan Lerman - Sure,why not?
4. Matteus Ward - Meh.
5. Chandler Riggs - :argh:
6. Teo Halm - Wait and see
7. Charlie Rowe - Haven't seen him enough
8. Vincent Martella - No thanks
9. Freddie Higmore - Hes alright but I see him more as harry
10. Any Young Male Actor From A Disney/Nick Show - As long as they pull of PP and spidey I don't mind
11. Donald Glover -Would love to see him as spidey
12. Dylan Sprayberry -
Where. Is. Isaac? :cmad:

Neil it isn't all about looks. I want said actor to be able to play peter and spidey sides well. And looks are important too. I like to see spidey be a good body size and not be a super slim skinny dude. Just breaks the illusion of him pretending to be a man at first.

I think Spider-Man should have the build of a regular teen. The spider bite should ad definition, not muscle. As per the Bagley USM pictures posted by kid. I don't know why there needs to be a misdirect with regards to a kid in the Spider-Man outfit.

I will do my own list, a CORRECT list!!!

1. Asa Butterfield 5/5
2. Isaac Hempstead Wright 4/5
3. Dylan O'Brien :down
4. Logan Lerman 5/5
5. Liam Aiken 3/5
6. Matteus Ward 2/5
7. Chandler Riggs 2/5
8. Teo Halm - not sure
9. Charlie Rowe 3/5
10. Vincent Martella
11. Freddie Higmore 3/5
12. Thomas Sangster 3/5
13. Skandar Keynes 2/5
14. Any Young Male Actor From A Disney/Nick Show
15. Donald Glover :down
16. Dylan Sprayberry
17. Tobey returning
18. Andrew returning

Well if he looks like a pint-sized, scrawny young teenager, why would anyone call him Spider-Man?

If there appears to be no noticeable difference to people such that someone who looks definitely like a boy can fool people into thinking it's a man, then why not cast boys in adult male parts?

The film "Spy Kids" could've just been seen as a bunch of adults rescuing their parents. It could've been called "Spy Men and Women". :o

I'm pretty sure Stan called him Spider-'Man' to break from the convention of the side kick. Given the year AF#15 came out, had it been written by anyone else it WOULD have been Spider-Boy.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the "Spider-Kid" / Asa Butterfield idea :oldrazz: .

He's just so puny...

I understand and appreciate why Stan Lee called him that, but Peter Parker didn't look in costume like a boy. People thought he was a man. I'm saying that if in real life or even within the MCU, someone were to see a young boy, they're not going to think he's a man.

Even if Peter were a fully grown man and were only say, 5ft and very skinny and had a high-pitched voice, they're still going to think he's just a boy, even if he were 35.

What dark said sums it up for a bit. plus if this spidey been in action for a few months to a yr already. We should be passed the pre bite puny parker look. And have him be more regular spiderman looking body.

All about opinions and I want to see the teen in the costume. I've seen the man in the costume and I want to see something new and fresh.

So you'd be okay with someone like 5'2" Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis) in the costume, who looks definitely like a young boy and would never be mistaken for a man by anyone else, just because it's fresh and new?

I want Asa in the costume and Asa isn't 5'2.

One thing I do say is good for asa is he like dylan or logan is proper height of 5'10. So he wouldn't height wise look so tiny compared to rest of the big guns. It's just his small slim frame as I said I can't really see body type like his gaining any muscle and tone.

As Peter he can wear baggy clothes and work out for 6 months to add definition for the Spider-Man scenes and then shot the Spider-Man scenes last. My concerns are about acting, anyone can go to the gym.

The thing is until we know who is pick and any more official details it is hard to judge what is what.

Just as I said preferably I like my spidey to be a bit more bulk vs the small boy size of usm. Even though I love the original run of usm.

Yes Neil any one can go to gym but what I was saying for example with asa. He naturally have a petite slim body frame. Even if he did work out I can't see him adding say ten to 15 pounds of muscle and getting toned up. And if thst is case if asa was our new spidey he would always look like a twig against even cap. It's nothing about acting on this front. Which essentially acting is important too. I just trying to bring up how spidey look could be right now to a few yrs from now.

15-20 pounds of pure muscle would make a huge difference to Asa frame.

I vote for someone without a hair that is the size of a giant comet!
So anyone who can cut their hair or have it down? Which is... everyone...

As for the first, I agree that that's a question we need to ask. I feel that for marvel to know for sure if the kid can do an American accent is to ask him to use one when auditioning. Surely he should have thought of it before the audition and gotten a coach himself? Unless he was chosen to audition and had very short notice, he could at least have a small amount of coaching before hand. That's what I was saying earlier though about an accent counting against them. If they are naturally British and they have never acted with an American accent, we don't know if they can do it well.

The second one is my problem with most of the picks. If we HAD to chose Maguire or Garfield I would choose Garfield. As BAD of a PP that he was, he was a GREAT spider-man. Maguire has the nerdiness, Andrew has the cocky spidey remarks. Which is more entertaining: A spider-man who is a nerd but not funny as spider-man, or a spider-man who isn't a nerd but is REALLY funny as spider-man. I say the latter. People are entertained by comedy more than story today. The MCU has had some great comedic lines, sometimes in moments where characters should have been most serious. It may have been unrealistic, but it was entertaining.
I think Peter Parker should be a blend of Maguire and Garfield, or rather, the best bits of both actors.

What I liked about Maguire was he was a total nerd, he really sells the 'geek' and you can see him being bullied in school. He is also nerdy around women. It is the stereotypical nerd but I liked the performance. Highlight of Maguire's Peter Parker is when he catches MJ when she slips and can't answer when she says he has blue eyes.

But what I didn't like about Maguire's Peter Parker, Garfield had in SPADES. It is the devil may care attitude, the twinkle in the eye, the sense of mischief and the wise arse/smart alec attitude. You TOTALLY buy this PP would mess around with criminals as Spider-Man, would wise crack as Spider-Man, would be a total *****e as Spider-Man.
I didn't get that from Maguire at ALL. When Maguire wise cracked it was because that's what the scrip told him to do not because of what was in his character that he showed the entire time his costume was off (which was ALOT).

The problem is Garfield's PP was a little too sure of himself, a little too cool for school. I don't see Garfield's PP being picked on because the bullies would simply find easier prey.
Highlight of Garfield's Peter Parker, the humiliation of Flash Thompson on the Basketball court. Oh yeah, I could TOTALLY see Spider-Man doing that to a criminal.

So I want the character who plays Peter Parker to pull off both aspects of nerd and mischief. Maguire's nerd + Garfield's charisma. Not easy combination to balance, but that is what I want to see.
I agree 100%. All it took for me was a few episodes of Teen Wolf to see Dylans complete awkward/nerd and his perfect puns. I suggest watching it, that's why people like Dylan, not as much because of his performance in Maze Runner.

Exactly! Some people have a smaller frame and wont get as much muscle no matter how much they work out. I have a friend who when he was only about 14 he was ripped, but you wouldn't know unless he lifted his sleeve and flexed his muscle. Why? His muscles were so defined and popped out just like any other ripped person, but he had a short skinny build, so they didn't pop out as much.

Dylan Sprayberry is with Donald Glover on the list of "Will never ever happen" candidates.

He appeared in Man of Steel as Young Kal; He ain't ever getting cast in a Marvel film.
