Comedy The Offical Saturday Night Live Thread - Part 3

I'm curious if there are any more cuts happening.

Of course Keenan is returning, he has a 100 year contract with SNL and he's only completed 22 of those years.

I am not surprised that Ego is returning, but I am a bit surprised that they did not hire another black woman so that they can smoothly transition from Ego to the new woman when Ego leaves. I said earlier that I can't see SNL spending another decade not having a black woman on the cast as they went from Sasheer Zamata (who was not the right fit for SNL) to Leslie Jones (who was hired with Zamata and she did good on the show) to Ego without any gaps. I noticed that whenever the SNL cast play British Royals, that they have nobody to play Meghan Markle and as great as she is, I could never picture Maya Rudolph as Meghan Markle, but she could pull it off if she did.

I do think it's the final season though for Ego, Che, Fineman, Day and Yang. I don't know how they are going to replace Ego though and if they can't replace her, she'll get the Maya treatment in that if they are in dire need of someone to play a black woman of darker complexion, they will bring Ego in. Yang is also going to be a bit hard to replace, although I am sure they will find someone to play JD Vance.

16 cast members (not counting Jost and Che) only for like half of them to be used consistently. Same old, same old. :o

Nah, they're going to scramble to find a black woman to add to the cast. IIRC Kenan put his foot down and refused to do drag roles which led to the hiring of Sasheer Zamata and Leslie Jones.

This sucks though. Ego was one of the best cast members as well as one of the few with a memorable recurring character. Even with the cast shakeup, I wasn't expecting her to go even though this definitely feels like it was her choice.

And if it wasn't for Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph wouldn't have been added. Damn Lorne has a thing against women of color.

You mean Lorne Michaels is out of touch?

Honestly he should have retired after season 50. Same thing goes for Jost and Che at the Weekend Update desk. As much as I've enjoyed them, especially Che, it's time for them to move on.

What will probably happen is they will bring back Maya and possibly use Quita Brunson and Ayo Edebiri in roles to fill if they need it.

I'm sure Maya will be getting a call.

Not if they all have busy schedules, which at least in the cases of Quinta and Ayo, they definitely will.

I personally think they're going to hire a black woman who auditioned for the show for this season and got the closest to making it on the cast or bumping one who's currently on the writing staff to featured player if they're interested. There's still time before the premiere and I really don't think Lorne wants the "SNL so white" heat again. I doubt Ego leaving was his decision.

I don't know why I thought Amy Poehler has never hosted solo before, I just remember her last time co-hosting with Tina Fey being more prominent.

I wish there were some actual newbies to the show hosting in the first couple episodes but honestly my excitement for the show hasn't been this low since Bill Hader left. I'm still bummed about Longfellow getting canned and Ego leaving.
