A writer for EW has a suggestion on who should take over Weekend Update:

That's a really interesting suggestion for Weekend Update. John Mulaney is hilarious and anyone who hasn't heard or seen his "New in Town" stand up special should do so right away.

Funny fact about John Mulaney, he's actually the co-writer for the Stefon sketches. The reason Bill Hader tends to break so much during those skits is because Mulaney often rewrites a few of the jokes just before Hader goes out. So some of the lines are a surprise to him which makes the whole thing so much better.

Although, I think I read somewhere that he's not writing for SNL anymore. I could be wrong and they could always hire him back. Either way, I like the suggestion.

im all for this, I don't think Mulaney is gut rippingly funny, but hes funny, and he has already been on weekend update many times in the past as a special appearance
