One of the big downers for me is that Spidey hasn't quipped hardly at all in the current films. Spider-Man 2 was on the other day, and I watched the fight between him and Octavius on the El-train. The only thing we got out of Tobey was a few grunts and groans, and that weird "Ah!" thing he does when he's getting punched in the face. There was many beats where as Spidey's dodging he could have tossed something in there.
Could just be me or the fact I've been playing a lot of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions lately. I like how in that game Spidey does quip a bit, but not all the time. And some of them actually cause me to chuckle regularly. One of my favorites is when Spider-Man is in a mine fighting Sandman. He gets tossed to the ground and says:
SM: Owwww... my head...
Marko: I'LL KILL YOU!!!
SM: No thanks, that'll just make it worse.
Dialogue like that I think will add a nice little bit of humor and wit without going crazy. There's another section in the game where Ultimate Spidey is fighting Ultimate Electro and they just start firing off puns at each other. While in the context of the game is humorous, I think it would actually be a nice change of pace to see Spidey have a more cagey relationship with his enemies than we've seen. Everything has been so seriousface in the movies up until now. Part of Spidey's charm is that he can grate on the nerves of all of his enemies relatively easy, and yet does so in entertaining ways. I'd like to see more of that in this next movie.
