Batman '89 The Official Batman (1989) Thread - Part 6

Why would they remove this and not all the other Batman fan projects that people do?

That recent Batman fan film got alot of attention and they didn't complain about it.

It really gets harder to not jump onto the WB hate train.
Sure other companies do the same, Nintendo famously tears down every Fangame and stuff...didnt they even sue the "Dreams" developer because people created mario etc games?

But with all that is going on, WB keeps making really bad decisions PR wise.

Maybe it's related to using the assets like designs and stuff. Or because there's another Arkham game in development, and the fan project might steal some of the thunder from the official thing. Capcom shut down the fan remake of Resident Evil 2 and, as it turned out, they were developing their own.

Could all be, maybe even because of Keaton being in Flashpoint.
Or the just saw it and decided that they dont like the attention it gets.
Sadly we cant really pinpoint the why.

Would love to it being because they work on another Arkham like Batman game outside of Gotham Knight...but i dont hold my breath at the moment.

Its either way very sad, a lot of work and passion has gone into this fanproject, the level of detail shows a lot of dedication.

Perhaps it was because they used Keaton's likeness. It kind of looked like him at the start of the video.

I don't think that's the reason. The video also uses at least one sound clip from the movie but that should be fair use. You can hear: "Come on Jack let's go!" when Joker enters the car.

Perhaps it taps too close to something they were going to do already, like with Nintendo and the fan Metroid 2 remake. Though that's doubtful.

Legal issues can be a silly thing. If people are allowed to get away with unauthorized uses of an IP, then possible precedent is set that might let them win a legal case should an IP holder sue, so often a company just takes action to prove they firmly watchdog that IP.

Usually, you'd think they would wait until someone was trying to sell something, or something was being distributed, like said Metroid 2 remake. This is just videos for something that isn't even out yet (and if I recall, the guy said he would never release it anyway). Maybe WB feels threatened in the sense that the notice this brought will make "Gotham Knights" look inadequate. To be honest, once "Gotham Knights" was revealed to be a Batman-less game, people seemed to stop caring about it.

Lol Warner got it removed. It had over 200 000 views. Good that there are other uploads:

To see these streets and places that I know by heart, but extended and with a new perspective, is simply amazing. This Gotham looks so much like a real place, even with empty streets. And that identity ... Like I said in a previous post, there's room for a lot of adaptations, but what Burton and Furst have done is incredibly personal and iconic.

There's so much care and respect in what this guy did in this demo... The attention to detail is simply amazing. It's nice to see how the framing when going to the Batmobile mimics the original shot of the car's reveal in the museum scene. And I think I saw the concrete broken on the front of the cathedral... Everything is there.
Well, almost. I have to rewatch this by putting the OST in background hehe.

It just felt like I took a walk in my childhood. And I loved it.
This is what Muschietti must achieve by daring to bring Keaton back.

I was always under the impression that:

1. Make money off an IP that isn't yours, get shut down

Or

2. Receive no income from a fan use of IP, it's all good.

I don’t know if these comics are being made with an eye on leading into Keaton’s return, but I’ll be curious to see if his Flash costume has any blue in it...

This blue is t showing up in Joe’s art... just this variant cover.

To be fair, most of Joe’s art that we’ve seen is uncolored, so we don’t know if there may be a change in costume that Ordway’s cover might be spoiling...

So it looks like in the Flash movie, Batman's suit will be the Returns suit. Bummer. For me at least.

Like the references to Bob Kane, Bob Ringwood and Sam Hamm there.

Random thought: I love 1:41 - 1:48. Pretty much the one moment in the entire film where the Joker's brought back down to reality for a moment and thrown for a loop. Nicholson's rapid eye movement there is hilarious.
