It's like saying you can't take the adam west show seriously... you're not supposed to.
I'm not a big fan of camp, because its just an excuse to be stupid with storytelling. This is different from parody, where the intent is having a harmless joke at someone else's expense.

The fact of the matter is that WB's execs got greedy, plain and simple. "Batman Returns" was way too dark (I call it "Burton Unhinged"), so the studio folks wisely decided to strike a tone more consistent with the first film. When "Batman Forever" became a smash hit, they instantly swung the other way, thinking even more camp would equal a bigger profit...and it bombed miserably. Look at the numbers for yourself.

Batman - $411 million worldwide on a $48 million budget (750% profit)
Batman Returns - $267 million worldwide on an $80 million budget (233% profit)
Batman Forever - $336 million worldwide on a $100 million budget (236% profit)
Batman & Robin - $238 million worldwide on a $140 million budget (70% profit)

You know, one time while watching this as a kid, I made the connection that Alfred was worried about Batman and Robin fighting Mr. Freeze for the first time because he (yes, Alfred) fought Mr. Freeze previously. This came after my cousin asking, "What the ****'s wrong with him?"

Say what you will about B&R, it's Gough's best performance as Alfred.

True, but it was vastly overshadowed by all the ridiculousness elsewhere. The best "character moment" in the whole piece was Bruce's conversation with his friend...

Anyone have photos of the Ivy concept art?

The fact that Clooney managed to bobble his head through infamously stiff necked batuits deserves some applause, I think.

I'm not sure if I ever posted this in this thread but I've always actually liked this movie and overall appreciate it,In the whole Batman film franchise it's definetly the worse besides the 60's movie But as a movie on it's own I accept it as a Batman action/comedy!

I accept it because it reminds me so much of the golden age comics and cartoons like Batman:The Brave and The Bold,So in a way it still is Batman,I prefer dark Batman but campy Bats is fine every once in a while and on film we have both styles!

The writing and direction sucked but I still think Arnold looked f'n badass in that suit!

The first 10 minutes of Batman and Robin alone are worth watching. Sky surfing Batman and Robin is pure epicness.

The freezing of the people special effects were pretty good. The guard who asks for mercy gets brutal treatment with the sharp icicles sticking out the back of him.

Lol, idk about that, the ice always seemed very plastic and fake to me.

The ice sitting around the museum and other places during the film felt token, sparse and plastic, agree. Though the free gun effects were ok from what I remember.
