I didn't like that the script was written for George Clooney.

Clooney: "What's my motivation, Joel?"
Shumacher: "Oh just be you! Yes, forget Bruce Wayen, this is George Clooney! Do the George Clooney grin, do the George Clooney stutter, do the George Clooney sarcasm, and don't even change your hair! No, this is George Clooney's Batman!"

I don't blame the cast, it was just bad directing. I've seen Clooney do amazing work, this wasn't it. Just like Mr. Freeze. "Oh I get it, it's Mr. Freeze! Just make a bunch of freeze jokes!"

I sort of agree, Authority2U. Even for those standards, Schwarzenegger and Thurman gave particularly crappy performances. Cheers.

Batman & Robin is an extremely fascinating movie because it is such a train-wreck from start to finish and a text-book example of how not to do a superhero movie. It really felt like it was made more by profiteers (at least it's the most blatant example) than filmmakers.

It has been 100% confirmed that Batman & Robin was aimed to be one giant toy commercial. So yes, made by profiteers, indeed.

It's been said that Schumacher told his actors before a lot of takes that, "Remember! It's a kids movie."

They are right, Arnold Schwarzenegger looked like he had so much fun with it.

Well yeah I did too as a kid when it came out but I meant for actors&crew. I always thought Arnold had a blast doing it and I know Chris O Donnel did because even to this day he gets asked about it in interviews and he gets enthusiastic about it and keeps saying he had fun and that he loved doing both movies. Seems like he blames studio execs but he still seems proud to have been Robin on screen

George Clooney talks about Batman & Robin on The Graham Norton Show. Lol.

I like when he says "I'm Batman" it sounds so much better than the in the film. He also he says did it for his career and it didn't work but it did work Clooney became known. He did much better films after Batman & Robin. I like Clooney as an actor, his name should be in hall of fame.

My seven year old self had a ball...
Indeed. I think that's telling. The movie has a bad reputation, but in comparison to say, Superman 4, I'd watch Batman and Robin any day of the week.

^ Superman IV has a huge nostalgia factor for me. I can still watch that.

I still appreciate Superman III and IV,Probaly because of the nostalgia factor but I can watch those two more than B&R

I recently bought the Burton/Schmacher four movie blu ray pack and after watching Batman and Robin and despite all of the comments from people that's basically just " I seen this movie when I was a kid and I walked out of the theatre" I liked it.
Harmless fun to us, but to them it's like seeing their dog get run over.

It's pretty silly...just like the movie. :awesome:

Maybe they would have liked the movie better if Schumacher included a scene where Batman killed dogs with the batmobile...because it's darrrrk! And GRRRITTY!:cmad:

Robin: "Holy Hot Dogs, Batman! Did you see how that bastard exploded? There's guts everywhere!"

Batman: "I hate dogs. They remind me of my dead parents. I hated my parents. That's why I killed them with a knife."

Robin: "Everything reminds you of your pare...huh, what are you talking about? You killed them?"

Batman: "Yeah. I wanted their money to buy hookers and drugs. Why do you think I dress up like this? It turns me on. Now shut up and kill that chihuahua with a batarang!"

I like that Clooney can look back on it with some humor, even though he thinks it's rubbish.

That was a good voice impression of Schumacher by Clooney. Though highly unlikely I wouldn't mind hearing an audio commentary track by Clooney on his experience making Batman & Robin.

Speaking of commentary...the one on the blu-ray disc with Joel is priceless.

Batman and Robin is actually far more rewatchable than a lot of other CBM.
