Oh FFS. This was too good to be true RE- Pac/Floyd Dan is ESPN's boxing writer

Extremely strong chatter than Mayweather-Cotto 2 is imminent.

If he fights Cotto, I'm done defending him. It's a slap in the face of fans, even though I think it will be a good fight. The fans are what got Mayweather rich but now it's like F you if he fights Cotto. I do think Paq/Vargas was already lined up but Mayweather should have done more to let the fans know that he's at least trying.

He'll beat Cotto again and then say he was the legit lineal Middleweight champion.

Both these guy's shouldn't be anywhere near Middleweight glory. Cotto isn't a 160lb'er neither is Mayweather.

Agreed, two blown up welterweights fighting for the middleweight title at a catch weight of 155 or lower is an abomination.

Winner needs to go straight to GGG, no way around it. They want middleweight glory, fight the best middleweight right now.

Agreed. By no means do I think he would have any issues with Manny, and I thought Cotto deserved a rematch way more than Maidana ever did, but I won't be defending him anymore either.

There's really no reason for not getting it done, although if the networks aren't close to making a dea,l then that's a whole other thing altogether. Bottom line is, it needs to happen now or forget it...

If the networks can't get it done, then they need to come out and admit it and the very least he should because it's going to look like he's the one that didn't want it. In some good news though, he did say on yesterday that they are still talking and they will get it done. But now that Manny has given him a deadline, we shall see. He only has 10 days left but I can't blame Manny. He has to look at other options. It's just that Floyd is going to look bad if this doesn't happen.

I agree but you know and I know and every boxing fan knows he won't go within a 100 feet of Golovkin never mind get into the ring with him. He wanted nothing to do with Sergio Martinez a few yeas back. Remember that one?

Nor should he have to. Those guys are way bigger than him. Plus he's not calling out bigger guys. It's one thing to call out anyone from 154-175(like GGG has done but yet won't face the top guy who wants him)but it's another thing to call out 147 lb fighters because you want your name out there.

You make a good point and we know why he allegedly want's Cotto again. Neither are Middleweight's but if and when he beat's him it will show on his record and in books that he was the Lineal champion at Middleweight.

Cotto is the Middleweight Champion of the World. The real one. Not simply lineal, he beat the real MW champion to win the Ring belt. GGG is a better fighter at 160, no doubt. He is probably a better fighter full stop then Cotto is right now. That doesn't change who the true champion of the weight class is.

GGG should have caught Sergio and his bad knees before Cotto. He didn't.

Whoever has the RING belt is the lineal champion or the TRUE champion of the division, that's what I said. We all know Golovkin is "The Man" at 160 nowadays anyway.

So when Floyd beat's Cotto again he'll say he's "The Man" at 160lbs.:funny:

Having the Ring belt doesn't necessarily make you lineal champ.

And Floyd would most definitely be the man at 160 if he beat Cotto. He'd be the Champion and by far the biggest purse at the weight. There is a reason GGG was talking about going all the way down to 154 to fight him.

By the way, I love GGG. One of my favorites, if not my favorite current fighter. He hasn't really fought anyone at 160. I know why he is hyped and I think he could beat anyone at the weight class. But he hasn't actually beat anyone of true note.

The fight is going to happen guys, just not at this moment.

Dude you aren't making any kind of sense, the Lineal champion and the "real champion" as you put it are one in the same.

Having the RING belt, the oldest belt out there that can be traced back to the 1920's or 30's, is the lineal champion.

Miguel Cotto IS the Lineal champion, his championship can be traced back to Tony Zale and those guys in that era. He beat the guy who beat the guy, who beat the guy. That's who the RING awards those belts to, there's no politics involved and no sanctioning fees.

That said Floyd fighting Cotto for the MW title at a catchweight with no intention on defending it is a goddamn farce. So lets say he does beat Cotto and is awarded the MW title, then what, he sits on it, like the LMW title with no intention on defending it against guys like GGG?

Like I said, it's laughable that Floyd fans are ok with him getting the MW title from someone he already beat, but just mention GGG and the conversation quickly turns into Floyd being too small and why hasn't GGG fought Ward yet. :whatever:

You can be the lineal champion without being the Ring champion. There are in fact ways to win the Ring title without actually beating the former ring champion. They even use to "award" the title.

Actually you're correct, now that I think about it, iirc Roy Jones Jr was regarded as the man at light heavy for years even had the RING belt, even though Dariusz Michalczewski was the lineal champion.

I'm pretty sure nobody on here thinks it's ok for him to fight Cotto at this time. Cotto, IMO, did deserve a rematch at some point if Maidana deserved one, because he gave just as competitive of a fight, but was clean doing it.

And yeah, if GGG wants someone to fight, Ward's about to be back on the scene and active. He should tell his trainer to shut up if his fans don't want to hear about him fighting Ward. It comes from his camp!

Come on, don't B.S., we're not stupid you know damn well all you Floydies out there would rather see Floyd get the paper MW title than fight Pac.

It may not have come from you, but I remember in other forums after the Mayweather/Cotto fight Floyd fans were saying "easy work" "shut-out" "10-2 rounds", now this fight is almost announced all of a sudden Cotto was Mayweather's toughest test. :whatever:

As far as Ward, is he still fighting? When's his next fight? Why doesn't he fight the Lt HW guys? Why has he never mentioned Kovalev?

Kovalev would do bad thing's to Ward man. He's not fighting that bad mo fo.

No one wants to fight someone who is legit bigger then them, and almost as skilled. Not Floyd, not GGG, not Ward. They will get their ass kicked, and possibly hurt. Roy didn't jump to heavyweight to fight anyone worth fighting. The size advantage negates skill and even athletic advantage. So that is why unless one is obviously superior, you don't see the jump. It is also why catchweights have gotten out of control.

The best fight like this we got in the last 10 years was Floyd and Oscar. Which is also why it was a close fight. Neither guy was drained, and Oscar while on the decline, still had plenty of skill to aid in his rather large size advantage.

I thought we agreed Cotto was the real MW Champion?

You are making way to much sense!

Wait, you told me to ignore dude(and I have stopped responding to his nonsense)but now you have took my place. Gotcha! Now you will see how it feels to debate with someone who doesn't have a clue and is fueled with pure hatred for someone he has never met.
