BTW, you'll notice I specifically asked Sage to cite evidence from Routh's background that would suggest he was fit to follow Christopher Reeve.

Can you provide any? No?
I'm at a loss to understand the widespread euphoria at Routh's selection.

I can only guess that this is generated solely by his physical appearance, as no-one has yet been able to cite any obvious evidence from his background that would reassure he is equipped to match Christopher Reeve in this iconic role.

Thank you for your encouragement to embrace Routh, Sing. However, I believe that by maintaining a healthily cautious, questioning perspective I'm placed in a much better situation to avoid any potential disappointment should Singer be forced to replace Routh, or should the actor deliver an ultimately lackluster performance.

just change Lex to Kevin Spacey and you've got the casting complete.

lets try to find something that doesnt have Routh grinning too much. something solemn.

I was at the Master Storyteller's event in hollywood last night, and Singer confirmed Routh, as well as De Santos and Dougherty cowriting. He also confirmed that he will be using the Superman theme music, and the movie will contain an homage to Reeve.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Singer has been praised for his casting choices in all his movies, including picking the then also unknown Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine,

Singer chose Hugh Jackman who was a stage actor – a great actor before he played Wolverine, Jackman just wasn’t Hollywoodized. If you want to contrast Singer’s choice of Routh with his other choices that were unknowns it would be more comparable to go with someone like Stamos. She and Routh have more similar backgrounds and acting levels. Although Rebecca Ramen (does she still use Stamos) didn’t knock anybody’s socks off, she did a good job in X-Men. Of course, she was in a supporting role, so it’s a little bit different. Just to reiterate, the fact that Jackman did a great job under Singer is kind-of a moot point. Jackman would have done a great job under anybody. He was a seasoned unknown who doesn’t need a lot of direction, same with Spacey. For an unknown who needed lots of direction use Rebecca R Stamos as a comparison. She benefited greatly from Singer’s direction. If we use that same example with Routh, yes, we’ll get a good movie, but I don’t think it will be as great as if Singer had gotten a Jackman equivalent.

Acting is a lot about talent and instinct, an actor doesn´t have to have been at Juliard at the age of 24 to be talented.
I really agree with this. I do think certain actors carry charisma that makes you believe them when they are on the screen. Of course, from pictures Routh does not have much charisma. But I am definitely greatly anticipating seeing him in interviews and shows. He could definitely be one of those people who is just a natural for the part.

And there´s a little thing called giving the benefit of the doubt, a concept which some people here seem to avoid like the plague...
I wish people would stop saying that. WE ARE SUPERMAN FANS. We don’t have to give people the benefit of the doubt. Let his mom give him the benefit of the doubt. It is our fan reaction that helps studios gage what is good and what isn’t. Heck, we are even more important than the critics. Would I say it was a good idea for a coach to send in a novice for the World Series? No, I would be skeptical. It’s not about faith, it’s about common sense. This decision is HUGE in comic book movie fandom. As a fan with integrity, if I see something that seems odd, I will question it.

In the end, I hope for nothing but the best, but I don’t want to be delusional. I want to be realistic.

Rebecca Romijn didnt have too much to work with in x-men, its not really a role to DISPLAY acting talent to its fullest. although, she DID do a great job in femme fatale.

yeah i agree......need to find manips of Rushmore being intense.....not so happy....it doesn't look right at all. i like your logo though....the gold is cool....i think it's just needs to have a more shiny and metallic look to it.

You guys should stop comparing this casting with Wolverine, its an entirely different character. Say if Singer was casting Batman, than that would be more comparative. The more comparable casting would be Cyclops at most.

I am going to give Routh the benefit of doubt anyways

Well said, NewBrando - that about nails it.

Unless you've seen the screentests, nobody has any clue whether or not Routh can pull it off. The Screentests, while playing the part, whyile reading the actual lines from the movie.... have TWENTY TIMES THE IMPACT than any previous acting gigs might have.

You can say that again, especially the opening sequence. ;)

Singer has obviously seen something in Routh, he wouldnt have cast him otherwise.
Would love to those screen tests though, especially the ones that were mentioned of the hollywood names.....

You and me both bud. I think most are just elated that it *seems* like they've finally cast the role, and are thus willing to accept anyone provided that it's an "unknown." Even if that person looks totally wrong and has cruddy acting credentials.

Even the sceentests won't give you the full effect of what he can do. Look at the screentest that Chris made. He was skinny, the costume looked terrible and IMO he was little stiff. It looked like he was trying to play the cliche of how a superhero should act.

He didn't really get into the part and start acting straght till they started filming.

Bad Buzz can kill a picture well before it even starts filming. I am somewhat surprised that this project has a bad buzz, and bad buzz it hard to kill, or marginalize sometimes. It has a life and a career all its own.

Like I said earlier, I had no choice in the matter, so to me, whatever. I know there are and were better choices. Routh has a look, but to me, not the look. Welling, Mcpartlyn, Bomer, and Cavill all have a better look, and more talent.

Having seen Routh on the soap and other places, he is bland at best. Welling has as much talent, and a better scene presence, the "IT" factor that can not be defined, but exists and many have had fine careers because of it.

So, I can live with this choice, not excited by it, and that in the end is what worries me so. I don't think this will do better than Spiderman one or two, but who knows. I could be wrong.

I laugh in the face of bitterness.

i know...i agree.....you know it could have been that "guy that had the bit part on friends last year....he was tall and he had brown hair, and...and".....i'm just being sarcastic, but you know what i mean MJZ......

Casting Brandon Routh is UNEXCEPTABLE to me. I heard he's was officially cast now. And the choices for Lois, minus Mia Kirshner, are terrible.

I can't believe they screwed this movie in the a**. I had high hopes for it back when Welling was talked about for the role, but now, my high hopes are dead.

I don't care how cool Routh may look in the costume, or what he does in the movie, this casting choice sucks. Period.

Brandon Routh is the new Superman... That's very dissapointing to me.

I don't understand the 'anyone other than Welling/JC as Superman will kill this movie' line of thinking...Wellling was my #1 choice all along. But I am a realist, he is very likely NOT going to be Superman. You have to get passed that and stop being bitter towards the person who was chosen by OUR DIRECTOR.

I am a Lakers fan and WAS ABSOLUTELY 100% POSITIVELY SURE the Lakers were going to wipe Detroit all over the floor last summer.....GUess what happened.

I rest my case.
