The Official Budget & Box Office Thread

im going with 240 domestic and 250 overseas they will be happy with those numbers.this superman movie only has a 175mill budget so that would be a good start to have a new franchise.

I have SERIOUS doubts this fails to outgross Superman Returns inflated.

Snyder- far more marketable, no pirates 2, etc

Singer had two X-Men films and The Usual Suspects to his name. Snyder only has 300 and, to a lesser degree, the Dawn of the Dead remake in terms of good will. More marketable? Hardly.

is'nt it funny on paper Singer and Campbell are better directors but gave us 2 dc movies that were god awful lol

I dunno if green lantern was down right terrible, it was about as entertaining as thor and iron man 2, yet those films get a pass because there "connected" to the avengers. It was a mediocre film more than anything.

As for superman returns, its not what people wanted, but it wasnt a bad film either. I hope this film does well but its interesting to see how avengers will have changed the landscape for comic book movies and we're going to find out very soon with spider-man and batman coming out.

Green Lantern was a straight down the middle of the road romp-a-thon. WB tried to play it safe, and the result was a movie that was neither bad nor good, just extremely forgettable.

Look at Batman & Robin, it's considered the worst big blockbuster superhero movie, and at least that is still getting discussed 15 years later.

Iron Man was amazing, and Thor was also very good, Green Lantern just sort of happened.

I just think DC/WB doesnt know how to make superhero movie though they r making them. Look at how marvel manage to make their heroes so heroic and elegant. They believe in their heroes, their origin n their speciality. they focus on those and strengthen them more.

WB/Dc? They don,t believe their own heroes. They change them hope to be accepted by today youth.

I don,t think mos will make more than Sr.

MoS has the privilege of having a teaser with TDKR though. Probably a trailer with the Hobbit. Awareness will be damn high.

Marvel has the advantage of having a their own movie studio. They can focus solely on bringing their heroes to the big screen and always hiring the best people for the job.

WB haven't given themselves the same luxury. So they hire people who aren't right for the job (eg, Campbell). Without some kind of DCE Studio, WB have other projects to focus on, much like Disney does.

That is irrelevant. Superman will be fighting somebody. We are getting Krypton. Henry Cavill is a stud. Those alone makes it far more commercial and easier to sell than anything done by RETURNS.

C'mon. Snyder is known for his visual flair, if nothing else. His Superman movie will have an enormous surplus of mouth watering money shots, there should be no doubt about that.

Sure it is.

Your argument was Snyder was more marketable than Singer because of his accomplishments. I handed out examples otherwise. Snyder's coming off a big flop Sucker Punch where his style was drenched all over it. Singer was coming off X2: X-Men United, acknowledged (at that time and still today) as one of the all-time great sequels and comic-book epics.

C'mon.

I agree that Snyder is in no way more marketable now than Singer was back in '06, but let's be real, they're gonna be pushing Nolan's name hard here. That was the whole point in getting him to "godfather" this in the first place.

And Nolan is most certainly more marketable now than either of those guys have ever been.

I am not saying Snyder has more name recognition than Singer. I am saying he will make a marketable movie. Superman Returns retro, actionless look made it a very hard sell.

Yeah the Nolan name is going to get the biggest push of all.

^depends how the dark knight rises is received. Something tells me it will be blasted. Its a shame what happened to singer, the guy has made some really good films.

Not so much for the first wave of promotion, since that will hit pretty much simultaneously with TDKR's release. At least for the first trailer, Nolan's name is gonna be front and center.

And fwiw, I doubt TDKR will get "blasted" anyway.

I think this movie will do just fine. I honestly can't see it making less than 400M WW.

Had it at $440M-$460M at the highest. But getting closer to release and seeing this kind of anticipation from regular people...yeah its breaking $500M.

I think this kind of tune changing is going to become quite common the closer we get to release (including from myself). It reminds me of when people were still sure Avengers wouldn't make more than $600-800m worldwide. The predictions for this will probably just inch a little higher and a little higher as we go along.

Heard from someone whose seen it and...yeah...it's going to go over very well.

Think it could seriously best Avengers' 3-day record.

Damn, really?! That seems like such an unlikely statement to come from you. I expected it to surprise people in its quality, but wow. That's certainly encouraging. :D

Are you guys talking about MOS or TDKR?

Oh haha, I thought you meant someone working on it saw an early rough cut of MoS (which I wouldn't have believed if it weren't so damn far into post-production already).

That TDKR is awesome and gonna be huge is, well...less shocking, lol.
