The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

I really can't believe that Invisible Woman lost that match. While JH presented a good argument, the fact goes that she'd be invisible until she found Wallflower...and, she could simply take her out without Wallflower even knowing where she was.

If it had just been them, that would have won it for me.

But it was the population that put me the other way. Wallflower had a whole city (or 2 miles of it) of people to throw at Susan. Or to sacrifice until Susan gave herself up. Something I'd think Susan would do to save who knows how many lives.

Yeah, but this is one of the most veteran superheroines in the Marvel Universe. Why would Sue Storm ever concede victory, when she could easily walk up to Wallflower undetected, envelope her in a bubble, and do away with her with great ease? The fact that a villian would start killing people is a dead giveaway that you cannot trust them and they must be taken out very quickly.

Here are the current standings. Phaed has the most wins, although JH closed the gap by winning ALL six of his matches this past week. I am currently leading the % but my matches have been nowhere as many as both JH and Phaed. But I am liking these one and two matchups per week. I have my biggest week with 5 matches coming up in a few weeks.

Ok, matches are up and are open for debating.

Poor Wolfsbane...she might have gotten the worst pick in this contest.

Got my first of two opening debates up. The Death's Head opening debate will have to wait until this weekend. I want to look in the new Handbooks and get the newest information about Death's Head and Blastaar; and, I won't be able to do it tonight. I'm seeing Rick Springfield tonight, instead! (I have a feeling none of you are going to be really jealous of me about that.)

YAY!! I have the most losses haha. Probably because I lost all 4 of my matches this past week. Oh well, I pretty much expected to lose my Iron Lad vs the Presense and the Holocaust vs Rictor match. (Didn't mean I wasn't gonna make it easy for you Phaed) Im pretty surprised about Nightcrawler, but thats how it goes. I had fun debating, so good job everybody! Now on to secure a win this week...

That was actually 1 of 2 matches I assumed I was going to lose, the other being Junkpile Vs Gambit. I'm still grinning ear to ear on winning those. Pleasant surprises.

And I'll probably get some debates up tonight after work. Tomorrow's going to be busy with having to run to my grandmothers for a while and then co-hosting a book club meeting (which will lead into friends just hanging out the whole night playing board games or cards or something, probably Pitch. Don't worry, I know you don't know what Pitch is).

I gotta say, I would really like to see a real Deadpool vs Kaine match. That'd be a heck of a fight.

YAY!! I have the most losses haha.

Now there's no need to beat yourself up about it so badly. It's okay, sometimes you just get in a bad streak. Perk up. You'll win something soon :( But try not to do it this week. You're 2 of the 3 opponants I have to debate :)

Remind me... does Nova have the World Mind in this tournament? I don't recall if we ever discussed it.

I don't recall if Worldmind had left it by the cut off point of this tournament and my comics are in the bedroom where my wife is sleeping, thus, I can't really check.

Well, according to Wiki he let Worldmind leave him in the middle of the Secret Invasion arc, which sounds about right. He then fights solo for a few issues before Worldmind depowers him.

Now, I put Nova #1 on my list assuming he did have Worldmind access but being that he let Worldmind go mid-deadline, I can see the argument that he wouldn't have access to it for the tournament. I'd hate to let all that power and possibility go to waste though.

So I guess what I'm asking is, would it be okay to have Nova with Worldmind? Being that he's my character I won't make any call on it and will respect whatever Phaed and W decide.

If we stick to the rules, then no, he does not have access to Worldmind.

Yeah, by rules it'd be no. It sucks though. I just checked and Nova let it go in issue 17. 18 is the last issue of continuity for the in this tournament. So Nova had the Worldmind from Nova: Annihilation 1-4, Annihilation 1-6, Nova 1-17, and in Annihilation: Conquest 6... a total of 28 issues. Then in 1 issue he doesn't have it and that's the version I'd be stuck with. It was so close to the deadline that I'm hoping you guys wouldn't mind making an exception... but if majority would rather not then I understand completely.

Doesn't the same apply to Iron Man? Before Secret Invasion, he had Extremis and S.H.I.E.L.D.

He lost Extremis in issue 1 and had 7 more issues without it, not to mention a few tie-ins. Nova missed it by 1 issue. Like I said though, I just thought I'd ask, but since at least 2 of you don't like the idea behind it I'll stick with normal Nova.

This, perhaps, is why we should work with arcs, rather than issues. Basically, set a deadline and just count up to the arc running during that deadline, or right after the arc.

Man, that sucks. I just mentioned Bea Arthur in my Kaine/Deadpool thread yesterday and today I found out she passed away. Sad.

As unmanly as it is to say it, I used to love watching the Golden Girls.

Sorry Deadpool buddy, I guess that's why she wasn't over in thread 1.

I grew up watching that show with my family.

*sigh* :(

Deadpool will never be the same again...

Okay, ignore all that Nova/Worldmind stuff from earlier. I've just read the issues and though he does lose Worldmind in issue 17, by issue 18 he is still fully powered. He has the power of the entire Nova Force inside of him minus 5 new novas. With the amount of power that's barely even registerable. So he's still as powerful as he's been since Annihilation, he just doesn't have the Worldmind giving him pointers and percentages. So he'll just have to do the thinking on his own, which is no problem.

Problem averted.

Insomuch that eventually the Nova force collapses without the Worldmind, doesn't it? Or kills old Richie Rich anyway.

The idea was that without the Worldmind, Nova holding all the Nova Force would drive him insane (such as with Nova Omega back when he was Supernova), but Nova was only without Worldmind for a short time (Issue 19 I believe) before Worldmind started handing out Nova Force to tons of people for the new Corps, and then Nova himself was depowered an issue or two later. But as of the end of issue 19, the cutoff point, Nova still has all that power minus 5 centurians worth. So yeah, that would drive him crazy in time, but not in the amount of time our matches would take. Though an insane Nova would definately benefit me in a debate.

I cant believe I didnt win ANY of the last 3 matches. The one I came closest on was Cerebra and I was pretty sure I'd do the worst with her.

Just goes to show, I do not understand how the other people on these boards think.
