I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

This isn't related to any news or anything but, if we end up getting a Selina Kyle spin-off would you want it to take place in Gotham ala The Penguin, or would you take the opportunity to widen the world a little and show off parts of Bludhaven? Or maybe go broader with the "When In Rome" setting?
Reeves said he wants this saga and all the projects to be a big exploration of Gotham and only Gotham.

If they ever make a Selina series, I think we'd only see Bludhaven in flashbacks.

Definitely go for world building. Unseen parts Gotham, Bludhaven, Rome and anywhere else that has amazing scenery. Catwoman is the sort of character who can be used to explore many different places.

I would love for Gotham to feel more lived in. I don’t want to just look at the city from above or focus so much on fixed locations. I want a glimpse into the lives of average citizens. Show me people dressed in Gotham gear, street performers, and actual goths. Show me historical monuments and things unique to the city.

I also want to see places outside Gotham and how they are affected by Gotham’s existence. Show me the countryside, rivers and farms. Places like Italy, France, and Greece in areas that we don’t usually get to see on film.

Go for something really different as we see things from her point of view.

Poor WB/DC getting pass around to different companies it feels like every other year, it’s crazy to me. As long it doesn’t affect Matt Reeves Batman universe, I don’t care lol

I mean Zazlov wanted another merger long term (Comcast or Paramount) and now that he can't have that he wants to sell outright. The guy is something else...

I'm not too particularly concerned about either, but if anything I think it puts DC Studios/James Gunn/Peter Safran in jeopardy.

By the time any merger/acquisition goes through, Part II will be out. If it's critically and financially successful, no reason why the new owners wouldn't want to make a third one. It's just a single movie.

Gunn/Safran are trying to map out a decade's worth of movies and shows. That's a much larger financial investment.

Not hard to imagine a studio wanting to be way more creatively hands on than the Zaslav regime seems to be. Most likely scenario is both are making enough money to be relatively insulated, but it will obviously substantially change things to some degree or another when WB sells.

Comcast/Universal is interesting because then that could pave the way for a DC theme park. But I don't know if they have the money to outright buy WBD - unless Zaslav is planning on selling off parts.

I like Paramount as a studio, but I hate the current leadership.

Apple could be interesting, but I'm wary of DC landing with a company that is more geared towards streaming than theatrical.

Just please for the love of **** don't be Netflix.

Even with streamers in the mix, the Ellisons are the ones I want the absolute least.

Those *******s moved on way too quick from acquiring Paramount to sniffing around WB’s backdoor. At least maintain an illusion of actually giving a **** about the stuff you’re buying.

The sale isn't shocking news. I feel like that's been a known fact since discovery merged with WB. This is what zaslav is known for, which as much as it's an unpopular opinion, he has been successful in reducing the debt and setting it up for a sale.

Once WB is able to split from it's cable networks it will be very attractive to a number of companies.

I see a company like universal wanting to strengthen it's IP and acquiring WB would do that. Especially for it's parks which, as a DC fan, being able to see something like what they did with Harry Pottery at universal would be insanely cool.

As for Gunn and Safran, I doubt they go anywhere unless man of tomorrow is a dud.

Yeah if the films are successful no smart buyer is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Even AT&T isnt that dumb.

Obviously, it all depends on who acquires it, but once again, if it's a company like universal, I'm sure it would love to integrate the IP's into it's parks sooner rather than later to capitalize on the synergy. If you have to start from scratch you would probably be looking at 4-5 years of developing a new set of film and then waiting for them to be received well. Here, you have superman up and running. Wonder woman, something tells me we will hear about it progress sooner rather than later (more attractive for sale purposes to have it in the pipeline with a finished script) and batman was already successful.
