The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

Ok, I'm not sure if I have to forefeit my only match this week or not. I just looked up Abyss's powers, and this is what I got:

"Abyss is a mutant who can unwind his body into highly tensile strands that can be stretched or used to ensnare a victim. While holding them he can absorb anything within the shadowy confines of his form, akin to what the superhero known as Cloak does. His body is actually a portal to the same dimension that Nightcrawler temporarily enters when he teleports, later dubbed the "Brimstone Dimension" from the side-effect of Nightcrawler's powers. He is able to drain the strength of the captives he holds in his form and can deposit them in this dimension permanently, but it is unknown if anything can survive there. He has limited telepathy."

Basically, he is like Cloak, and sends his opponents into the same dimension that Nightcrawler goes to, making it really a "ring-out."

I didn't want to say anything while it was happening cause it wasn't my debate, but regarding the Grim Reaper vs Nova match, isn't Grim Reaper's energy absorbtion powers limited to his scythe?
Like if he can't touch you with it he can't steal energy from you right?

and also: this should be a ******ed three fights for me this week. Not much chance of improving my win/loss ratio.

Not so fast! While I do agree that Speed vs. Apocalypse is going to be tough to debate, your other two have possibilities. Quicksilver vs. Moses Magnum, remember this is Quicksilver BEFORE his recent appearances in Mighty Avengers. I'm not sure what his powers were like then, but I know they went through big changes when he took on the Inhuman's crystals.

And, just to remind you, this is Spider-Man The Other, which also includes the Tony Stark armor. It's still a tough match-up against Emma Frost; but, still very do-able. That one should be fun!

As per the convo that was going on regarding accusations of people ganging up on others, I just wanted to mention I don't know any of you in person or online (haven't really conversed with any of you), plus I'm not competing.

I vote as I vote because I think it makes sense. Debates can certainly sway me, but if my own knowledge tells me that someone's debate tactic was crap or that their character would clearly lose, I'm certainly not voting for them.

I need to see it man. Feed the addiction. To listen to the haters. :word:

Heh, no it's okay I will just keep tabs on my stats with my grid.

BTW, phaed any word on Sasquatch (Exiles)? I imagine this would be her before she lost her powers since this was done with someone else earlier in the season a few weeks back. I can't remember who it was but it was one of the mutants who was depowered after House of M. Otherwise she shouldn't have been on the list.

But I guess the bigger question is it the character before being controlled by Tanaraq or not? It was only a short duration but I don't care either way.

Heh, yeah I didn't have that in mind when I put her relatively high on my list. Sasquatch herself is a good character but after reviewing over some details Tanaraq would probably be at Harold Jaeckelson (whatever it's spelled) level but to a smaller degree.

Tanaraq is indestructible and can’t be killed. Shaman states, "well...creatures like him can't be truly destroyed." When Tanaraq takes control of his avatar; his durability and strength increase to an extreme level. He took full blasts from Zarathos without fazing him, to which Tanaraq stated, "clearly you know nothing of the Great Beasts, else you would realize the folly of testing a god." With that he crushed Zarathos with his foot. Mimic unleashed a full optic blast on Tanaraq to no effect. He beat Kulan Gath with his amulet of power. This Dr. Strange-level mystic sent everything he could at Tanaraq to no effect.
Tanaraq was shown easily crushed a powerful alternate reality Morbius to death with one hand. He also destroyed Zarthos merely stomping on him with his foot, as well as easily manhandled Namora, grabbing her in mid-air with one hand and tossing her at Mimic in Colossus form knocking both out. He was also shown to easily rip Morph right in half.

So I won't mind if this would be considered the last version of Sasquatch. :)

Quicksilver's powers would still be superspeed. They were mucked with for a time, but returned to his regular set during X-Factor.

We never discussed it but I always thought of her as her normal Sasquatch form myself, as if we wanted Tanaraq we would have chosen Tanaraq, or Sasquatch (Tanaraq). So unless Phaed or W wants to disagree, I'd say it's Sasquatch right before the Tanaraq deal.

I say normal Sasquatch because, honestly, I'd forgotten all about Tanaraq.

I brought up this mention earlier with Cloak and Nightcrawler, but since it's important to the character himself I don't really have a problem with it. It's not like he's throwing someone into the sun or teleporting them to Kentucky.

Also, I want Spidercide to advance over Trauma. I'm worried neither of them have a great shot against Namor in round 3 but Spidercide has the better shot I think (unless a good debate is put in for Prodigy in round 2).

And I'm so disappointed at myself for my loss of Nova. I think I was so excited about him having Worldmind, something I've wanted to see since season 2. We couldn't use it then because the story wasn't finished yet so it was out of bounds. I was excited to have it this time around and then I found out as I started researching my match that he lost Worldmind 1 issue before the end of Secret Invasion, so I was without it again. I was so disappointed that I didn't put as much into the match as I could have and it cost me a still awsome character round one. I could have pulled that one off fairly easily if I tried but I didn't. I'm so annoyed at myself!

So not only is my #1 draft pick eliminated in round 1, 3 of my top 5 picks are eliminated. Not a great start to the season.

Nova - Eliminated
Thunderbird (Exiles) - Eliminated
Mimic (Exiles)
Juggernaut - Eliminated
Prince Of Orphans

Yes, it would be her before she is depowered. I just haven't been able to get to my comics to see what she was like before this happened. If your investigation on her bio says she has the Tanaraq, then it would be usable.

Like I said, just make sure this is her last appearance, and she didn't lose it. I'll still try and look. Do you have any idea what issue she was depowered?

I thought you guys were using Walter Lancowski version. Just plain ol' Sasquatch from Omega Flight.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

I see now (as I'm answering as I go along) that Wieg and JH said they expected regular Sasquatch. I have to defer to them, since I was outvoted.

EDIT: Ok, I just read about all that. Yeah, I would have to agree with JH and Wieg on that. Just like with Morph and Proteus, that was ruled to be regular Morph. The same would hold true to Sasquatch, because if it was the other, it wouldn't really be her...it would be her body, but a different character.

Just letting you guys know that my AOL has frozen on me three times; so, I'm having trouble getting these matches posted. Please be patient, as I'll keep trying.

Ok, Debating May Begin!!!

I noticed that the location said "Asteroid M/Avalon"...but, those seem to be two different locations. I just went with the one that is more known and more limited in space, which, as you guys can see, is Asteroid M. (Of course, since my only match is fighting Exodus, I totally screwed myself!)

As per usual, security is not activated. (Not even sure what kind of security Magneto had up there, really.)

Ok, I do see where Asteroid M was called Avalon; it's just that most often you get information on Otherworld, which is a separate location. So, if you can get the info, know the version of Asteroid M is the Avalon version, since there have been 3 Asteroid M's.

More Info:

An orbital space-station created by Magneto from the remnants of Cable's Graymalkin station and stolen Shi'ar technology. It served as the Acolytes' base until it was destroyed by the battle between Exodus and Holocaust.

Is this week a day or night match and how would that effect being on a space station?
