The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

Haha! I was reading about Abyss, and saw this from Wiki:

"Artists often differ in the way that they portray Abyss (in fact his appearance has drastically changed within single story arcs, though no other character seemed to think this was odd). Sometimes, Abyss will have a green face and a black body. Sometimes, Abyss will be blue and have a body structure similar to Flatman. During the storyline "The Draco", Abyss appeared very similar to Nightcrawler. This trend has caused some fans to joke that Abyss has the "power" to never appear the same twice."

Anyway, I've been thinking about it, and I'm going to forefeit this match. One, this is a location Exodus knows very well. But, more importantly, while there is a chance for Abyss to win the match, I don't like the idea of this character giving someone a "ring out" by sending them to another dimension. For that reason, I'm content with dropping him from the game.

I understand. Darkstar was potentially good but having a Ring Out character was like starting under par.

Maybe next time there should be a Ring Out summit. :D

3 ring outs = Win or something weird like that.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

I brought up this mention earlier with Cloak and Nightcrawler, but since it's important to the character himself I don't really have a problem with it. It's not like he's throwing someone into the sun or teleporting them to Kentucky.
Speaking of Kentucky, I was just thinking how awesome it would be for all of you to go to the Kentucky Derby with me today. I'm going with some friends, but the Derby would be a fun CoM party. Oh well, I guess I better maybe get an opening debate on at least 1 of my 5 matches...

That would be fun but unfortunatley highly improbable. I only live a few hours from Lousisville though. That's where my wife and I went to see the Police Reunion Tour. She fell in love with the place and has been wanting to go back ever since. We had a good time.

Well, I saw Wolverine last night. No spoilers here, but I will say this. I went in expecting continuity to be bad, and I went in with expectations to hate every second. I figured if I start low then I'll at least find it tollerable.

Unexpectedly, I actually enjoyed it. There were things that made me grimace, and there were some major comic book continuity blips, but if you go into the movie after having watched X-Men 1-3 expecting it to follow comic book continuity you're dreaming. But it was very good overall, I think. Not among the best of the Marvel adaptions but tolerable. I'd say closer to X2 than X-Men 1 or 3, though not quite that good.

I thought Wolverine was quite enjoyable as well. I decided to put the comics out of my head and then, obviously, the movie still has some faults but all in all, a fun one. Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber do a great job. Intro is also a-mazing. After credits scene... well, I guess it depends on which one you got to see.

Yep, we saw it too on Friday night. I had huge expectations, and while I enjoyed it, it still could not compare to X2, or even last year's Iron Man. Liev stole the show, I thought. And, I was a bit disappointed with Wade, as I didn't laugh at one of his jokes at the beginning of the film. The comic book Wade is much, much more funny. I did think they cast Gambit pretty good.

The best part of the movie is seeing the cameos by various mutants, like Blob, Emma Frost, ect... (Clearly, though, this Emma cannot compare to the version we know and love. Plus, the gal sure had an odd looking face...kind of elvish. I loved how everyone was in prison garb, but she was wearing a t-shirt that showed off her boobs.)

Could it have been better? Yes. But, my mom who never saw a single X-Men movie went in thinking she'd hate it, and came out loving the movie. I guess that's a pretty good endorsement.

Can't wait for Star Trek next week!

We never discussed it but I always thought of her as her normal Sasquatch form myself, as if we wanted Tanaraq we would have chosen Tanaraq, or Sasquatch (Tanaraq). So unless Phaed or W wants to disagree, I'd say it's Sasquatch right before the Tanaraq deal.

Not to bring this up again but just wanted to clear some things up. She made the deal with Tanaraq to get her powers in the first place. The Tanaraq was the source of her powers and it was when she was in the Kulan Gath transformed version of Manhattan that she became fully Tanaraq because of the magical properties in the surrounding area.

I am not asking for that version, I am happy with the prior version, but i just felt like it deserved to be clarified. I didn't think the Morph/Proteus comparison was a good example.

Yes, very improbable. I just happened to jump on here before I went and the thought crossed my mind, thats all. If you and the wife ever make back down here, let me know. We can grab lunch, or at the very least I can give you some tips and such on where to go etc.
Put 2$ on the longshot for me.

:ff: :ff: :ff:
And wouldn't you know the longshot won!!? The horse was one of the horses that had 50-1 odds (I think there ended up being 2 with those end odds), a $2 bet paid $103. Too bad I didn't see your post till now.

I couldn't believe how that horse ran. Just came out of nowhere, and the jockey took weaved him through a tight path. And then he just exploded at the end.

I saw that a $2 bet picking 1st through 4th place paid out over $500,000!

Man, I'm bored this week. After 2 straight huge weeks I only have 2 matches this week. One I've conceided and the other I posted an opening debate but Hellstormer hasn't come on to do his side of the debate yet.

It's nice having the relaxing week but man, I'm still used to going on all cylinders.

And on a side note: Did anyone pick up the Free Comic Book Day issue of "The Stuff Of Legends"? I havent made it to the shot yet (they're holding Blackest Night and Avengers for me) but I just saw a preview of this issue and the art is very nice, and the story sounds interesting. Curious if anyone else read it, if it was good, and if there's anything else coming out regarding it.

An advanced warning. Chances are that I'll be moving around June 1st so I'll probably be without internet for a week or so after that. If I'm not mistaken I'll only have 1 match that week so all should be well (either Shola Inkose Vs Werewolf By Night or Gamesmaster vs Silver Claw).

Just wanted you guys to know.

I know! Going around the first corner the horse was DEAD last! Everyone was looking at each other after the race, asking each other "Who the heck is horse #8?"

How awesome would it have been to win $500,000? I did put $6 to win on the long shot....of course I picked the OTHER horse that was 50-1. I picked the wrong long shot, but thats how it goes I suppose.

I'll put something up tonight for Fury vs. Brimstone Love.

Hi Guys. i got back from Scotland have now posted my matchups. I apologise for being so late-

I'm gonna drop my Vampire by Night match. There's no feasable way of being someone like Reignfire with her.

My debates are all finished and I doubt Powder will want to rebut what I have just written down.

Heh, no I am fine with leaving it as it stands. Good luck in your matches!

On a personal note I got my office laptop back so I am happy. My older computer was slow as hell. :)

I just noticed we are at the halfway point of the first round. Hard to believe that it has gone by so quickly.

Btw, what is the location for next week (and it better not be in my pants..:cmad:)

So we need to pick a new location, then?

Awesome, possum...as long as Mary Jane, Storm, Jean, Kitty, Aurora, Enchantress...... Black Widow, Blink, Emma Frost are there. :)

BTW, any chance in finding out the next location...;)

Next group of locations:

9) Savage Land
10) Otherworld
11) Age Of Apocalpse
12) X-Mansion
13) Empire State University

Age of Apocalypse is kind of too wide-spread; so, not sure if we want to strike that one...or narrow it down a bit. Also, Otherworld will have to be better defined.

Savage Land will have natural inhabitants and daylight. Otherworld will be without and nighttime. Age of Apocalypse has to be discussed further. X-Mansion is without...Empire State University is with people.
