The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

I've got no problem with having a Hobgoblin if everyone wants one.

As for the day/night issue, alternating weeks is fine with me. Or even just flipping a coin each week to randomly decide when it would effect the battleground.

The way I see it, when you get a character, you get their strengths and weaknesses. Which means you have to write for both. So if you put a vampire high on your draft list, it's nobody's fault but your own if the match is in daylight.

Another way to handle it is for owners of characters whose powers depend on light, dark, sun, moon, whatever to write as if their character gets that advantage and doesn't. They'd have to write how a vamp would win at night and during the day. Similarly, their opponents would need to do the same thing. But this could still leave actual time of day too open.

I would be fine in either switching or flipping a coin (which would make it more random).

As for Hulk... Phaed makes some good arguments. I've never read Planet Hulk myself but based on others who have I'm still a bit iffy. Phaed says no and I'm still on the fence. And being left on the fence probably isn't the safest place to be on a character so I say just leave him Savage Hulk (unless Professor or Fixit would be more preferable).

In that case keep him Savage, but my question becomes is which Savage is he. The Planet Hulk was Savage but he seemed to be more intelligent. He was the same from before Planet Hulk started. It is only in the recent Hulk comic that he has reverted to "Hulk" intelligence. So is this Savage Hulk the one currently in the comics which recognises WWH happenned but has the mind of old Savage, or is he before Planet Hulk in which case he has that same persona but its before his different feats during PH and WWH?

I would go with current Savage Hulk....

Being up to date with current Hulk (yeah, i'm one of the few whose enjoying the whole Red Hulk storyline, dispite it's odd flaws here and there), I'm okay with his current Savage state. It's a bit of the steriotype that most people think of with Savage Hulk anyhow so that works.

I say rotate each week and let's set it in stone (provided Phaed agrees). It's more structured than flipping a coin and I like that people will have to write to their strengths and weaknesses, same as their opponants. It's just a part of the competition.

Last season, we compensated for a character that needed to have a night environment. Many times, if the time was suppose to be daylight hours, we gave those characters, like Moon Knight, a certain amount of nighttime hours.

Personally, I don't want to have a win that isn't fair. If a contestant had a vampire against one of my characters, I'd want them to have a fighting chance.

Swarm - Swarm has done pretty good in the past two contests.

Drop
Green Goblin (Phil Urich) - My least favorite Green Goblin, and, in my opinion, the easiest to beat. I'd sooner have someone, like Norman, who has no problem using any means to win in a contest. Plus, the current Norman Green Goblin is pretty bad with a humongous amount of resources at his disposal.

If that is the case then you cannot have an overwhelming advantage given to a character because of location such as Reed fighting in the Baxter building or the Black panther in Wakanda. It is the luck of the draw.

To me, that's different. If we alternate daylight and nighttime hours without taking into account of a character's weakness to a time of day, we might as well eliminate them. It's just a matter of time before Dracula is done the first second the contest starts. A location is different, because, that's an environment that you have to adjust your fighting style to, but not negating all your ablilities. (And, because of that, we've eliminated characters who would have big problems with random locations, like Stiltman in Season 1.)

What are the locations going to be?

We usually determine locations after we determine the characters. I'm sure it will have many of the ones from last season; and after the lists are made out for each contestant, we have a random drawing, determining which week each location is going to be.

Alright, all votes added up and here's the final talley. I'll add them to the ongoing list.

I think I have three Spider-Man Handbooks at home that I'll have to look at.

I was wondering if we want to eliminate Scarlet Spider, and maybe replace him with Spider-Man (The Other) version. Scarlet Spider is the same as our regular Spidey; but, at least Other version would be pretty different.

I have no idea what the Other version is. Haven't read Spidey since Civil War. Actually...I don't think I've read Marvel since CW.

Ok, I actually knew about those powers. Since we're using the latest version of characters, if Pete still has them, then that's the version of Spidey we'll have. And then we can also have Ben.

Is GG somewhere else?

Ok, I actually knew about those powers. Since we're using the latest version of characters, if Pete still has them, then that's the version of Spidey we'll have. And then we can also have Ben.

Everything involving The Other was negated by Brand New Day. He's back to his old self again.

Well, then we should use that then, and Ben. I'd rather not have two Peters.

I'm not even going to go there!

I will. Let's compare....

Bad... 2nd Peter will get in the way while 1st Peter is "web slinging".

Good... Your not finished webslinging when 1st Peter runs out of webbing, you can continue with 2nd Peter.

Wow... that's gross. I can't believe W would even bring that into our thread. Pervert!
