    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

To answer previous questions.....

W - Hornet is the one from the Slingers.

Powder - Phil Urich is in the Keep section of the Runaways/Loners section and Norman Osborn is currently in the Thunderbolts section (which should be coming up very soon).

Now... leave me alone so I can work on my Spidey list.

I will. Let's compare....

Bad... 2nd Peter will get in the way while 1st Peter is "web slinging".

Good... Your not finished webslinging when 1st Peter runs out of webbing, you can continue with 2nd Peter.

Wow... that's gross. I can't believe W would even bring that into our thread. Pervert!

And yet everyone is satisfied. ;)

Sheeewwwww!!! Okay, I decided to play this one seriously. This was a huge list and there were a lot of mediocre characters on it so I went through all of them in detail to make my decisions. I feel I trimmed a lot of the unnecessary fat and kept those that have a real chance in this tourney. I also added some extra headings to tell characters apart from otheres with the same name. And I added 1 new character to the Keep list.

Keep
Cardiac
Carnage
Darkdevil
Demogoblin
Doctor Octopus - The character bores me but he deserves a place.
Doppleganger
Dusk
Electro
Fusion (Markley)
Hobgoblin (Kingsley)
Hybrid
Hydroman
Kaine
Lizard
Morlun
Mysterio
Override - I found this guy on accident. Sounds good as Override (not Shadrack).
Puma
Sandman
Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly)
Shriek
Spidercide
Spider-Girl
Spider-Man
Tri-Sentinel
Venom (Eddie Brock)
Wild Thing
Will O' The Wisp
Wraith (Brian DeWolf)

Potential
Carrion (Warren Miles)
Hornet (Eddie McDonough)
Rhino - I can be pursuaded to keep him.
Shocker - Sadly, he doesn't have a shot, but I love him. I just can't bring myself to put him on the Drop list.

Drop
Armada
Basilisk
Black Cat
Calypso
Crown
Ezekial
Headsman - Maybe after he gets some exposure in Thunderbolts.
J2 - He's just a less experienced Juggy that can overdue his powers and revert to kid form when fighting too much. I'm not impressed.
Kraven the Hunter
Lady Doc Ock
Lightmaster
Prowler
Scorpion - I'd rather use the Venom Thunderbolts version. I think he'd have a better shot of advancing and he has a better record to give him some cred points.
Scorcher
Scream
Shadrac
Shathra
The Answer
Toxin

Dang, I got to work, and realized I forgot my study materials!

Just letting you guys know that the Spider-Man section will take a while longer.

That's fine. I'm in no hurry. With such a wide variety of characters it's probably best to be thorough.

Keep
Cardiac
Carnage
Carrion (Warren Miles)
Darkdevil
Demogoblin
Doctor Octopus
Doppleganger
Dusk
Electro
Hobgoblin (Kingsley)
Hybrid
Hydro-Man
Kaine
Lizard
Morlun
Mysterio
Puma
Sandman
Shadrac - Pretty bad-ass, especially since his body projects heat blasts over 2000 F. I like him better as this than as Override.
Shathra
Shriek
Spidercide
Spider-Girl
Spider-Man
Tri-Sentinel
Venom (Eddie Brock)
Wild Thing
Will O' The Wisp
Wraith (Brian DeWolf)

Potential
Hornet (Eddie McDonough)
Override
Rhino
Shocker
Toxin

Drop
Armada
Basilisk
Black Cat
Calypso
Crown
Ezekial
Fusion (Markley) - Looking at his bio in the Handbook, very unimpressive. Except for Energy Projection, he's extremely weak and too easy to beat.
Headsman
J2
Kraven the Hunter
Lady Doc Ock
Lightmaster
Prowler
Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly) - Same as Spidey, and like I said, I'd rather have a different Spidey, using The Other.
Scorpion
Scorcher
Scream
The Answer
Toxin

New Characters Added:

Cameleon - Drop
Delilah - Keep
Digger - Keep
Fly (Richard Deacon) - Potential
Grim Hunter - Potential
Jack O' Lantern - Keep
Jackal - Potential
Molten Man - Keep
Queen (Adriana Soria) - Keep
S.H.O.C. - Keep
Spider-Man-The Other - Keep
Vermin - Potential
Vulture - Drop
Charlie Weiderman - Potential

I wouldn't say Ben's the same as Spidey. He's got a couple more weapons going for him like compression webbing and stinger darts.

Oh, I just remembered that Marvel just recently came out with a Brand New Day Special, that had bios of many new characters. I'll look at that when I get home. The new Hammerhead might be in it, and is greatly improved from the previous version.

Of Phaed's list.

Keep
Fly (Richard Deacon)
Jack O' Lantern
Molten Man
Vulture (Lifetheft) - Regular Vulture is a no for me, but the young version of him from Lifetheft through the clone saga would be great. He's younger, stronger, flies faster and better, and his suit at the time drains the age and life from a person simply by touching them (and keeps Vulture young himself).

Potential
Charlie Weiderman
Digger
Grim Hunter
Spider-Man-The Other - I like this version of Spidey, but not as a substitute for Ben.

An update not including Phaed's additions...

Keep
Cardiac
Carnage
Darkdevil
Demogoblin
Doctor Octopus
Doppleganger
Dusk
Electro
Hobgoblin (Kingsley)
Hybrid
Hydro-Man
Kaine
Lizard
Morlun
Mysterio
Puma
Sandman
Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly)
Shathra
Shriek
Spidercide
Spider-Girl
Spider-Man
Tri-Sentinel
Venom (Eddie Brock)
Wild Thing
Will O' The Wisp
Wraith (Brian DeWolf)

Potential
Hornet (Eddie McDonough)
Rhino
Shocker

1 Keep/ 1 Potential
Carrion (Warren Miles)
Override
Shadrac

1 Keep/ 1 Drop/ 1 Potential
Fusion (Markley)

And since we have a 3 way split with Fusion, I'll give my opinion of why I think he should be kept. His ability is basically mildly mental. He makes other people believe what they are seeing. He doesn't actually have all the powers he showed during his fight with Spidey and Doc Ock, but he makes them believe it. Once someone figures him out he's easy to beat, but it's getting to that point. He fully beat Spider-Man to a pulp and made Spidey believe that he had a broken neck. He was awsome. When Spidey believed Fusion hit him with the strength of the Hulk, his body reacted and felt like he was hit by the Hulk. Fusion is awsome! Think of all the people Fusion can eliminate from this tournament, even uber level characters, that don't realize he's just a guy who can suggest things to your mind. Heck, Hulk can't know about Fusion and Fusion can not only match Hulk's strength, but he can also suggest to the Hulk that he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and you know what, Hulk will probably find it hard to land a blow on Fusion while he beats the Hulk down, and maybe even suggests that the Hulk is crippled after one hit, and the Hulk is down and defeated.

Unless he's going against a strong telepath, Fusion can go far in this tournament.

For Fusion, you can switch my vote to Potential.

Here are characters introduced in the past year:

Anti-Venom - Potential
Blue Shield - Keep
Freak - Potential
Hammerhead - Keep
Jackpot - Drop/Potential
Kraven (Female version) - Drop
Menace - Potential
Mr. Negative - Drop
Wayep - Potential

Man... If I'm going to actually have to look into Brand New Day stuff I'm going to have to take some time to build up the courage. I vowed never to do it. Grrrrr.

Look what you're making me do Phaed!

I actually have to go to work so I'll look at this list when I come home for lunch, or after work.

Most of them aren't that impressive; just the new Hammerhead is pretty bad-ass, and Blue Shield has become a little popular.

You do know that Hulk is immune to telepathy right. Fusion couldn't do squat to him.

I lost track of who I have and haven't voted on.

So...who do I still need to vote on?

JH, when we are done with Spidey, could you show the updated list of how many characters we've gone through thus far?

W... these are the ones that still need voted on.

Anti-Venom - Potential
Blue Shield - Keep
Freak - Potential
Hammerhead - Keep
Jackpot - Drop/Potential
Kraven (Female version) - Drop
Menace - Potential
Mr. Negative - Drop
Wayep - Potential

And Fusion was a 3 way tie to keep/drop/potential. Phaed moved his vote up to potential, so if you stay then he's potential, if you move to keep then he's a keep. I posted a more indepth explaination of his powers above to help in that.

And to Ahura... I just used Hulk as an example. Though I do remember Cable going into his mind and pulling Banner to the forefront during the Onslaught saga, and Jean went in and took him back out again.

Keep
Anti-Venom - It'd have to be in place of Eddie Brock, since he's both Venom and Anti-Venom, and he's more powerful this way.

Potential
Blue Shield
Hammerhead - Definately upgraded, but I'm still not sold. I'll say keep if Phaed says keep to Fusion ;)

Drop
Freak
Jackpot
Kraven (Female version)
Menace
Mr. Negative - Seems decent but undefined.
Wayep - Couldn't find any info on.

Well, now that I feel dirty maybe I'll go get a shower. Though I will say that the Anti-Venom sounds cool. I may go pick up New Ways To Die at some point to check him out. Maybe... doubt it though. The though leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

JH, when we are done with Spidey, could you show the updated list of how many characters we've gone through thus far?

Yeah that won't be a problem. We're ahead on numbers I believe, which means we'll probably have to go thorugh our final list and remove characters rather than add from the potential list. I figure we can go over it later and maye switch out a few we're partial to, but there probably won't be many.

Anti-Venom - So he's just a good Venom that's caustic for regular Venom to touch?
Blue Shield - Potential, doesn't seem all that special
Freak - Drop. He adapts only after being nearly defeated by forming a cocoon. Won't get the chance in a match.
Hammerhead - Is the new adamantium upper skeleton the only thing new about this version?
Jackpot - Drop, Nothing special
Kraven (Female version) - Drop
Menace - Got a link?
Mr. Negative - Drop
Wayep - Is this name right?

Menace

And according to wiki, the below is the main differance in Brock's Venom, and Brock's Anti-Venom...

As the chalk-white Anti-Venom, Brock has all the abilities and powers of Venom, plus a caustic touch able to break the bonds between other symbiotes and their host, and the supernatural ability to "cleanse" human bodies from foreign influences and mutations, like Mac Gargan's symbiote cells and Spider-Man's irradiated blood.

He also doesn't share the main weaknesses of the symbiote race from which he spawned: namely, extreme heat and sonic waves cannot harm him whatsoever.[26]

Anti-Venom also has the power to reduce Spider-Man's power levels if the two get too close to each other.

His invulnerability to heat and sonic waves is a definate upgrade, but the ability to expell foreign influences and mutations could be REAL handy in a tournament. I'm just curious how long it takes to do so? If it's instant then that's awsome. If it takes days then not so much.

Drop Menace. Sounds like another Goblin, but an ill-defined one.

And to Ahura... I just used Hulk as an example. Though I do remember Cable going into his mind and pulling Banner to the forefront during the Onslaught saga, and Jean went in and took him back out again.

This was before his upgradea and his super adaptability. He has been immune for a few years now.

Okay, of the BND additions, here's the final talley. No one's a definate keeper, but 2 could potentially be. They both come down to W's decision on them.

Potential
Blue Shield

1 Keep/ 1 Potential
Anti-Venom
Hammerhead

I just asked over in the stupid questions thread and it seems that in order to drain mutations and such for a person, Anti-Venom basically sticks his symbiote tendril finger thingy's into you and just starts to drain it. It seems to be a fairly quick process.
