The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

A number 12 seed can beat a number 1 speed; but, that's if the number 12's speed somehow works against the number 1.

Also, there are some surprises. I sure wasn't hot on King Cobra; I would have placed him WAAAAY below Havoc; yet, he's doing a great job of beating his opponent. (Of course, Havoc isn't a number 1...and, looking at King Cobra, he sure isn't a number 12.)

Hey I just wanted to tell everyone I won't be able to vote this time. My school's putting on its musical this week so I've been busy all week and it will continue until Sunday (hence me not debating and all).

Hate to say it but neither will I. My internet has screwed up so we're just switching providers and will probably be down for a week or two. Fortunately, someone at the school where I work left their name logged in so I could sneak on here, but that won't happen much so this may be the only post I'll be able to get up at the moment. I'll try to get to the library enough to get an opening post up for each each of my matches next week but that's about all I'll be able to do. And being that WitchKing lives with me he's in the same boat I'm in.

Sorry, this sucks, but there's nothing I can do about it. My wife's calling our cable company to set up the install, so hopefully it'll be quick.

Also, W, I think this is the week Phaed said he was going to be gone, so we may need to depend on you to get the matches started for this week and all that. Thanks.

Well, do you guys just want to hold off for a week? It doesn't effect me, as I have no matches this week; but, I'll be (somewhat) back on Saturday of the following week. (Sunday is the Emerald City ComicCon, and am SOOO excited about getting some awesome deals on old 70's comics, hopefully!)

This would mean, the following people have matches the next week:

*JewishHobbit, AhuraMazda = 5
WitchKing, PowderMan = 4
*MidnightIce, Vanguard, FranklinRichards = 3
Wiegeabo, Harlekin = 2
Hellstormer = 1
Phaedrus = 0

* = 2 of your own characters fighting each other.

This doesn't include the possibility of a rematch, of course.

That means, if WitchKing, JH, and Hellstormer can't debate their matches, 9 of the 16 matches won't get debated in full.

Right now we have 9 votes; we're still missing Hellstormer, JH, and WitchKing...all three who are unable to vote.

You need at least 6 votes to tie...and, 7 for a pretty definite win.

Sandman vs. Groot is 6-3, and I have no problem conceding victory to my opponent, Wiegeabo.

The other, King Cobra vs. Havoc, is also 6-3.

Here is the problem. Two matches are extremely close: Ahab vs. Union Jack and Gladiator vs. Fusion. Both are 5-4, with Ahab and Gladiator winning.

I, personally, want to give Harlekin a fair chance at winning our match; so, I'm willing to wait for the other three people to read our debate and choose.

What else we do is up to you guys.

I suppose we could just extend the debating phase of this next round by a week or so. So that we dont all have to just wait around but the people who are away still have a chance to get to it before voting begins.

As for extra voting time for this round, doesnt matter to me, between my two matches it's pretty much impossible for the result to change on either based on the last couple of people's votes. Both have pretty much already turned out exactly the way i expected.

Something just occured to me. So far i've maintained (and been pretty happy with) a 50/50 win/loss ratio.

I wonder how i'm gonna maintain that next week with 3 matches.

BTW do we know the location yet for next week's match-ups?

Obviously, I'd love it if we could extend voting time just a little more.

Well if JewHob cannot connect I would rather we push forward with the matches this week. There is no reason to delay. People's problems are their own. Then I might have a chance with debrii:twisted:

I am just kidding, I will go with the decision either way. :)

Where will the match location be this week. It will be key for me.

Ok...I guess it's executive decision time!

Harl, I want to give you a fair shake on our match. SO, I will wait for JH, WK, and Hell to read our debate and make a voting decision on our match. I cannot do the same for your match with MidnightIce, as he'd have to allow that. So, unless he says it's ok, that will have to be a loss for you. (The last match, King Cobra vs. Havoc, doesn't look that good for Midnight, as the best he could hope for is a tie, which I think is unlikely.)

I will end voting, and get the new matches up throughout the day. (I'm also getting work all set for me to leave, and getting some things ready for vacation; so, it might take a little longer than usual.)

Voting Is Over!!!

These are the next two locations, BTW.

4) Negative Zone
5) SHEILD Helecarrier

We should probably be more specific with the Negative Zone, as in location within it. If we think it's way to general, we can go with the second location.

Generic Negative Zone is fine. Floating asteroids to fight on. A generic planet not too far. Near the edge of that Distortion Field. You could put it at 51 if ya wanted.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Negative Zone Prison Alpha

Introduced in Civil War: Frontline #5, it is a prison originally constructed to house super-villains but which acted as a holding facility for unregistered heroes during the civil war. The portal to the prison is operated by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. The prison itself is an automated facility. Designed by Reed Richards and built by Stark Enterprises and Fantastic Four Inc., it is located in the Negative Zone. The inmates call the facility "Fantasy Island", probably because prisoners who are unable to manipulate technology to their own ends are connected to virtual reality systems.
It is also referred to as "File 42" due to it being the 42nd item on a list written by Tony Stark, Reed Richards and Hank Pym of ways to make a world with super-powered beings safer. The prison is an extremely secure, clean facility with cells custom-designed for each inhabitant. Notable inmates during the war include Daredevil stand-in Danny Rand, Robbie Baldwin and Cloak & Dagger. After the war, it is now used for super-villains, and was known to house at the very least Taskmaster and Lady Deathstrike until Taskmaster made a deal with Camp Hammond to become an instructor and Lady Deathstrike somehow escaped as she appeared in X-Men: Messiah Complex. However, the prison was later over run by Negative Zone ruler Blaastar.

Ok, let's go for that. You can also fight outside the prison...but, the participants will start inside the prison. It would be up to you to get out in the open, if it suits you.

Remember to read up on the Negative Zone, as it can effect emotions of players.

A tie would be nice because I think a rematch would favor Havoc although I don't understand why he is losing in the first place. Oh well its all fun and games. As for my other close match, it doesn't matter to me either way. If Harlekin wants to wait, thats fine as long as everyone is ok with it. Out of my 6 matches this week, that is the only one I might win, so whats it matter if I lose all 6 right? Its all so very motivating:cwink:

Sorry MI, I would rather we moved on on our match just because I really do not want to waste more time on the character. I am sorry I won because I know Havoc would have had a better chance going forward then Klaus but I got lucky with the location.

Regarding this week, I have some really tough matches and a few which I think I will have to use a very convoluted strategy.

Ok, I jammed out all four threads, and you guys can debate now.

I see Midnight said he'd allow for his contest with Harlekin to continue with voting, if we get the other three people to read that debate. (Yeah, you had some tough, tough matches this week, Midnight!)

You guys have a great week! I'll be back in 9 days; and, figuring for what was said previously, sounds like we'll just extend debates this week, and maybe have voting when I come back.

So, we'll have about 1 1/2 weeks for this next round of matches, and to get us back on schedule, about the same for the following round of matches.

Thanks to both Phaed and MidnightIce. I'll be returning the sporting favour if it comes up.

To Wieg (and, JH, should he happen to get on and see this)...Harlekin brings up a very good point about Phobos. With pretty much every character, it's last appearance: but, which appearance are we using for Phobos? Ares mini? Or, last appearance, which is Secret Invasion?

For Ares, as we know, we used most recent appearances. I was under the assumption same is with Phobos; but, not sure if we discussed this. (I'll be gone...and, JH might not come back in time...so, I will go with Wieg's decision on this.)

BTW, I'm still at the office for about 4 more hours. If there are any questions, I'll keep checking in to this thread.

I just put up the opening statement for one of my matches (because it was damn quick) but i dont think I'll have time to do the others till sunday night or so.
