Not to mention, films are basically Elseworld stories. They can deviate if they want to.

Hell, your avatar says that Jack was the best Joker, despite him killing Batman's parents. That was a massive deviation from the source material, wasn't it?

I concede your point about Joker being the killer of Bruce's parents. However, my ultimate point was that there are some comic book fans that want a modern superhero movie to be as faithful to the source material as possible. Costume deviations aren't really necessary as long as the story is good. Story deviations are acceptable as long as they keep the spirit of the original source alive.

Costume deviations aren't that important, as long as the characterisation is spot on.

For example, Sabertooth in the Wolverine movie and X-1. Yes Wolverine was awful, but the actual characterisation of Sabertooth was accurate to the comics, yet he didn't look anything like Sabertooth from the comics. Whereas in X-1 he looked pretty much exactly like the comic book version, but he was characterised as basically a mute lackey.

That's comparing apples and oranges isn't it. Sabretooth is nowhere near as iconic as Superman (our modern myth)

It doesn't matter what deviations you make to characters like that because they have been redesigned and reinterpreted in the comics so many times.

Superman (and even Spiderman and the Hulk) has had a very specific look to him. It can't be messed with too much or people start arguments and debates (much as we are doing here)

Spider-Man wore the black suit for four years, and it was widely popular.

He wore both costumes. Which I liked and kinda wished more characters did.

I always felt the markings on the MOS costume reminded me of something, now I think I know what it was:

I actually loved that Batmobile design. The patterns also sort of make me think a little of H. R. Giger's designs. I think that's why I liked the costume at first and still do kind of like it, just not for Superman, It's just too busy for a costume as simple as Superman's is supposed to be, plus it looks a little too flowery and also a little too angular and maybe even a little sinister. And I have made suggestions for possible costumes without trunks that might still feel like Superman, so it's not just that the trunks are gone.

For some reason, the piping on the MOS suit sort of reminds me of the unusual folds in Apocalypse's face.

Apocalypse: "This Kryptonian.. this alien dares to wear a suit that is quite obviously grafted from the skin of my face?!? This cannot be tolerated! He is not fit! He is not strong!! He is not worthy!!!"

Yea, it does a little at that.

You know; IF Superman's costume in MOS originates from Zod's armada or from something that he was given especially from his parents for whatever reasons; should it get destroyed or incredibly damaged during the franchise, I wonder if Clark may later apply some "humanistic" touches to his outfit for further updates.

I had a similar thought. The suit that we have seen so far is destroyed near the end of the movie after Superman has vanquished Zod. He gets another suit that was in the ship, or is created in the FOS that has the trunks and conventional belt and is not quite so alien. As Superman goes into action before the final credits, the camera pans down to reveal the trunks. The audience cheers, the camera pulls back, and Superman blasts off to save the day. I realise Hell would likely freeze over before that would happen, but it would imo get a similar response to when Daniel Craig finally uttered the iconic "Bond, James Bond" at the end of Casino Royale. Everyone was waiting for that big payoff, and the producers didn't disappoint.

I was so sure this was going to end in a punchline. I'm disappointed.

It would be nice to see him adapt the alien uniform into the warmer, earthly costume. Maybe you see him coming towards the camera, then once he is in full view, you see the full reveal of the real costume, then he could turn and fly into space, showing the \S/ on the back of the cape, then finally to the flyby like in the Reeve movies.

I know there's no chance in hell that they will do that, but the one thing I would take from the Reeve movies in the flying over Earth smiling ending.

interestingly enough, bob kane himself said that in an ideal world, the joker would have been the person killing bruce's parents. had he come up with the character at the time of batman first appearance, that would have been the case. (in response to burton's change)

just a side note :yay:

Bill Finger did all the Batman writing, however, and Kane was just the penciller and was barely even that. So yea...his words hold little weight.

wow. did you just minimize bob kane's role to a mere penciller? you've got to be joking.

Defending Bob Kane? Do you guys know anything about Batman's creation and what kind of person Kane was?

Take Bill Finger out of the equation you have a character in a red costume with a domino mask, wings and possibly named Birdman, not Batman.

To be fair....Finger's contributions to the Batman mythos has been mostly ignored or never talked about.....he did more for creating the rich Batman history than most of the general audiences and very many Batman or comics fans realize. So minimalizing Kane to "just a penciller" is no more than what Kane did to Finger over the years.

Yeah, let us not diminish the contributions because he was "just an inker" or whatever else you my wish to say. He was there at the beginning and he was apart of the character's formative years. That is a big deal.

I grew up thinking Bob Kane created Batman too.

You need to study the actual history of Batman's creation and development. Kane is the #3 most important guy in Batman's creation but got all the credit and all the money. He drew what Bill Finger told him to draw. And although Jerry Robinson wasn't there at the beginning, he contributed much more than Kane ever did. Kane wasn't even pencilling many Batman stories by 1943. Later on, he tried to pass himself off as a painter, displaying paintings of clowns in galleries... that were also painted by a ghost artist.

Giving him the trunks halfway or at the end of the movie would just be annoying. Making a big deal out of them, like his wearing trunks is some kind of dramatic thing. They should have gone with the classic suit, but they didn't. They screwed that up. Now we just have to wait and see is if they got the characters and story right.

Sounds like a con man.

Before I even learned there was a controversy around Kane's role in Batman, I'd seen footage on the Batman'89 DVD of him drawing a portrait of the Joker that was so lousy, I remember thinking "Jesus, I can draw a better Joker than Bob Kane."

here's some design work from cully hammer based off of jim lee's design. i think for the dc direct statues, not sure.
