I'll never understand Fanboys when arriving to the briefs topic/debate.

Other than providing hyperbolic statements, nothing else is provided to create a functional debate revolving around briefs.

In my opinion, the briefs had to venture off the suit eventually, and what better time than now? The suit had to evolve from the 50s appearance at some point regardless of what anyone thinks.

Did anyone really expect that Superman would continue to wear trunks into the 31st century (or 21st century for that matter)?

Actually, brief less superman "Look" has yet to be accepted by General audience, we will know for sure when MOS is released, if there are many voices criticizing it, WB may be forced to bring Briefs Back. :p

To be fair, I never expected the Superman 2000 reboot to fall apart. They had such amazing talent and a great new costume design team and then DC just said "nah, let's turn him electric instead". It's just bizarre.

********. The difference between me and her is I actually know what I'm talking about and I don't talk about stuff that I have no knowledge of. She gets basic US history wrong when she is supposed to be a US Congress member, but I have followed and studied Superman comics for over 30 years. You don't see me debating about stuff like politics or economics or pop culture stuff like Transformers because to be honest, I don't know jack **** about them. But superhero comics I do know.

Superman's real costume is an icon, and changing any aspect of it undermines the entire superhero genre. Lesser characters can have a long list of costume changes, Superman's costume should not be changed one iota.
Thanks for proving my point.

Honestly the lack of trunks is lower on my list of problems with the new DC comics Superman suit.

It looks like it is made of ARMOR. Superman does not need armor, he IS armor.

That and the high neckline and neck collar looks a little too 3rd Reich for my taste too.

Open neckline, showing off his trapezius muscles, and it should never look like armor.

I'm fine with it looking like a material that holds itself together on him without ripping to shreds when he flies or is in a fire etc... but no part of the costume should look like it belongs on the Ironman suit.

Compared to that crap I can certainly live with the MOS movie costume!

The general audience didn't seem to mind Wolverine's and Batman's costume alterations.

Armor?...

I don't see it at all.

I didn't like the movie wolverine costume and in origins he was just wearing normal clothes

Wolverine's original costume sucks. :p

Batman is wearing mostly Black suit and operating at night so any changes in costume can be done without anyone (General Audiences) really noticing.

Sure, but I doubt that WB is going to cancel this project with the Nolans being attached and Harry Potter biting the dust because of trunks.

This film has a tremendous amount of potential, and WB has invested way too much to turn back now.

Conjecture gentlemen. The point is no one noticed what Wolverine/Hugh Jackman was wearing. He could have been wearing the same suit from the comics and animated series, and the general audience would have not stumbled or flinched.

It doesn't matter, Batman's grey suit is iconic as well. As a matter of fact, alot of fans from the Batboards still endorse the grey cloth suit to make it onto a film adaptation.

We are talking about the same outfit right?

Nothing but absolute faith to the comics designs is ever acceptable to me in live action films, especially with the level of effects today.

You said that same crap with Captain America, and said how the USO scene was like 'pissing on Kirby's grave'.

Then you actually SAW the goddamn thing you *****ed about and then actually didn't mind it all that much.

I honestly wonder on how people would have responded if the costume had ended up looking something more like this?

i'm a fan. I am not a subject, not a citizen or a soldier of some . There are no of superman fandom to break, and liking the new bears no punishment (unless you count the constant bashing by posters like you).

QFT

If people like the suit, they like it. Nobody has a right to say anybody is/isn't a fan. Being a fan or not being a fan is not subjective aside from yourself. If I say I'm a Superman fan, I am a ****ing Superman fan. If I like the costume with no trunks, I am STILL a ****ing Superman fan, because I say so.

that's the reason i love this suit its the perfect combination of all the best incarnations of batman this is and forever shall be "my" batman

Hypothetically speaking, what would your opinion of the MOS suit be if they removed the "ribbing" and added back on the trunks? Because other than those changes, I think the MOS suit is an excellent modern take on the suit. Any other variations on the design are founded in the original comics. (eg. no cape S, full length cape a la the cover of Action Comics 1, muted blue, cuffs/bracers, Earth 2 etc.)

I ask because you say you are fine with legitimate growth of the character. I'm curious whether the MOS suit with those two changes (trunks/no ribbing) would meet with your satisfaction?

No tramp stamp and the trunks back instead? I'd think it was really good except the colors (the blue especially) look a little too dark.

So because Superman is Superman everything about him can never change? With that logic he should still be jumping tall buildings instead of flying. And I can't believe anyone wanted those gawd awful comic book costumes of Xmen to be put in the movies! I am just coming to the conclusion that you don't want anything from any comic book to change or be updated. These comics aren't the Bible for crying out loud, and even that has been interpreted differently throughout the centuries.

No, they aren't the Bible, because whoever wrote the Bible has been dead for thousands of years. But we know who wrote Superman-Jerry Siegel. And we know who drew Superman-Joe Shuster. And we know what they did. Superman grew and grew from 1938-1986 but the difference is he always kept true to his core concept. I don't know why characters being true to what they were intended to be would be a problem for anyone.

Thanks for proving my point.

That you take a disagreement and make it personal? Welcome to my ignore list.

And if I see MOS and the movie over is as good as Cap, then I'll enjoy it. But there's nothing in MOS addressing the classic costume-it's absence says enough. And Superman's costume is better than Cap's. Or any other characters, for that matter.

I don't get the attitude some people have around here. It's like you either have to love everything about Superman or nothing at all. Why would it be impossible for me to dislike certain aspects of his look or character, but without hating it as a whole? It just reminds me of the whole "You're either with us, or you're against us" attitude and that's really silly. One doesn't have to love everything about Superman to love Superman.

And that doesn't mean I don't respect the creators or hate tradition or anything. It just means I have a different taste in some matters. But I guess that's just horrible.

Didn't we have this 'tramp stamp' debate already?

Didn't we agree it was a derogatory term only being used by you to wind people up, that actually had no relevance whatsoever?

There were pictures and everything...

:whatever:
