No a bad call Prime. Check it out. Plus I made some other changes, darkended the blue and made changes to the face, more accurately representing what Cavill could look like in costume.

Sorry that it took me so long to respond. But yeah, this is a definite improvement. Great job!

I'm surprised you guys seem to be open to the changes to a Superman costume. I want the basic classic design, though I wouldn't mind a few alterations within the costume.

I would hope they tackle the suit the same way Raimi did...classic design with minor tweeks with modern materials

good job,,,,,,,,,,,,,

BUT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE WHY THE RED TRUNKS ARE VERY IMPORTANT

Hell no. The only thing wrong with the manip is the S on the belt. There is a huge S on his chest, why does he need two?

Maybe he likes it. After all hes a superhero not a fashion designer. I prefer the oval belt design but i dont mind if theres an \s/ on it. I just want it subtly done so its not staring me in the face everytime i see it

Another two costume ideas, again using Sebastian Colombos artwork (Genius)...

^^ The first one is awesome. Very powerful and commanding. Beautiful job.

Although I appreciate everyone's creativity and willingness to push for a fresh and different costume, I'm still not sold on any version that omits the red briefs. Remember the episode on "Lois and Clark" when Clark was trying on different variations of his costume before settling on the iconic one? (I think maybe his mom kept sewing new versions.) If the first scene of Superman were of him wearing an all-blue version sans red briefs, the audience might think he was just trying out different costumes and keep expecting him to finally show up in the iconic one.

Main issue with losing the trunks IMO is the fact that we're left with a large area of plain blue.. Which fan artists/manipers/whatever tend to try to balance by adding colour elsewehere, usually ending up with a cluttered costume or over complicated designs..
In my view the classic costume is perfect, my trunksless design was just a mess around with the idea.. Given the choice? trunks all the way :)

As I've said before, the only visually workable alternative to the trunks is to either make the bottom half of the costume red (like Kon-El's first costume):

Kon-El-1st.jpg

Or go with a larger sash belt, which looks too much like Captain Marvel or Captain Marvel Jr.:

my main issue with the trunkless look (an I am not just saying this about your design, but, just in general) is what to do with the belt (not that needed a belt to hold up your underwear made much scene in the first place) but, wearing a belt without makes even less

Which backs up my post regarding a trunkless design, no trunks leaves us with a large area of plain blue, the belt is used to break up the blue.. But unless it becomes a utility belt (why Superman would need one i'll never know) then the belt becomes a pointless accessory.

er looking at these pics Superman without the trunks just doesn't seem right. I know see what Jamel meant when he said the trunks break up the blue.

For those who despise the outside trunks. . . my solution would be to extend the trunks further down the thigh, so they look more like tight shorts/trunks and less like underwear.

As I see it there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Superman’s costume design. What I think is far more important is the pallet and materials they choose and how it comes across on film.

Superman’s costume is like the least complicated thing on earth. Why mess with it? As I see it, it takes far more courage to adapt faithfully than the co-out of “modernizing” in more cases.

Then make it a two piece. Why does it have to be basically a wetsuit?

After the posters, the trailers, the magazine covers and online press coverage that would go with any costume modernisation I don't see why anyone would go expecting to see a grown man who doesn't understand the concept of underwear.

That costume doesn't work in semi serious live action. The fact Singer thought he could get away with it is not courageous, its silly. It doesn't take bravery to agree with you, it takes common sense to revamp it.

It doesn't need revamping. All it needs is new materials for most of the costume along with a director like Snyder who can do brilliant work in post.

The base costume is fine and needs no alteration but a different approach in material.

You're going to tell me there is something wrong with this?:

I debated adding the trunks, I may have to do one with them.
Ah, but if you add the trunks the red stripe across the body becomes excessive, and then you're left with, essentially, the classic suit. It's a vicious cycle.

It's best to just stick to the classics.
