The Official Costume Thread - Part 4

Design wise, the arms and legs piping is pretty much the exact piping the X-Men movie costumes had from X1-3.
many costumes have piping going down the arms and legs, including Fantastic Four and various Ultimates characters. it's a design element on costumes that go beyond even the superhero genre...simply because it's a good design. this isn't exclusive to the X-Men.

And putting a yellow V on the torso doesn't make it look much different from the different but similar designs of the First Class.
i'm not seeing the comparison here. the design on my concept flows while the designs on the 'First Class' costumes basically fall straight downwards for the most part. regardless, again...like i said, i know it was a bit uninspired but i was just illustrating more of a general idea of what i'd like to see, which is little to no Donner influence and a costume that looks like it could possibly influence Superman's look.

Adding black trunks(that don't seem to work with the design anyway) doesn't make it much different; and personally, the trunks don't look good to me there. Maybe if the hood cape was black as well?[/QUOTE]
thank you for your critiques, but i simply have to disagree with you on these points.

I know it's not exclusive to X-Men, but before superhero movies, the X-Men were the ones who never really strayed from it; I mean, I really can't think of any other super heroes that kept with the piping compared to the X-Men. As for FF and the Ultimates, both pretty much only did so because the X-Men movies had it.

And I do like it kind of, I just don't find the colors working for Zod. I'm not saying it's gotta be all black, but the blue/yellow combo, while may also extend beyond the superhero movie genre has been in the X-Men comics for almost 60 years.

No problem.

i concede about the colors....muted colors make it look less tacky. i'm just not a fan of DARK colors since it makes it look like most of the renditions of Zod we've seen in movies, tv and comics.

does it still look like he "raided the X-Men First Class costumes"? hehe

lol Better colors, and yes it reminds me of comic(not movie) Iceman, but even that simple changing of the yellow and brown make it look better.

I like that DF. It might be a little to Sith with the hood. I might actually like to see a mostly white concept if it can be pulled off, but the dark blue and gray is good.

I think Zod's look is going to depend on how they introduce him. I wouldn't expect him to come out of the Phantom Zone in his military uniform, I'd expect him to be wearing a prison uniform.

That's pretty sweet. Feels like a militarized Superman uniform.

thank you! pretty much what i was going for

...

Would Supermans suit be made using the same boots?
Would you have an alien suit for Superman?

The boots ended up a little too chunky, i'd like to see them very similar to kal's

I like it, after camp Blood mentioned the shoulder cape like Assassins Creed and Boba Fett, I think I slightly changed my stand on the whole villain cape thing

cool. me too!

I knew the shoulder cape would look wicked on zod, but egarza did great on that and I actually really like the Z strap it's clever and unless your looking for a Z you won't realize it

It's has almost a oppressive feel to the suit, like a nazi uniform. I look at him and instantly feel like I am going to be caned

glad you got the z thing. again, very much inspired by that evil military look. my first design looked like he ''raided red skulls closet'' ;)

Nice artwork indeed, but a bit too militant IMO and not sleek enough.

I was thinking more something like The Eradicator.

Yeah, it was a pretty literal interpretation of his 'general' status

very cool as always df, and nice ms likeness! the lines all echo supe's duds in a way and the hood and black items definitely adds to his 'sinisterness'.

i tried using more color in mine and one early sketch had him looking more like bizarro with his darkened blue and red with 'z' shield haha. in the end, i settled for the charcoal grey with red accents and piping. anythings better than stamps blouse imo

thank you all for checking out my design and for your comments!

That's redundant. The entire realm is the prison, there are no enforced rules, and they're not being policed. No use for a uniform.

btw at this point, many designs are going to look like rehashes. mine looks like gand moff tarken meets magneto, df i can't help but see fantastic four meets sith lord

lol

Prisoners wear prison uniforms in prison. Where, you know...the whole place is a prison.

Seriously though, when a member of the military, especially the "top dog" as Zod is, dishonors his post by attempting to overthrow the government, I would imagine that said government would strip him of his rank, insignias, uniform, etc and place him in the Kryptonian version of the orange jumpsuit to stand trial and then be sentenced to the Phantom Zone. I doubt very much that he'd be sent to the Zone in his full military gear.

On Krypton I'm sure they go about those things differently.

That's missing the point. Uniforms are standard-issue for a reason. They're used to identify the inmates, making them completely unique and easy to spot. This also makes it very difficult for them to escape or hide.

The Phantom Zone does not require this. Any and all individuals unfortunate enough to be placed there has no means of escape. That's why there are no facilities or bars in place. The entire world is their prison. As such, Kryptonians have no need of keeping an eye on them. Hence the complete uselessness of any standards to be imposed on the prisoners -- including uniforms.

It's pretty much like Escape from New York, but a whole zone/dimension instead of just a state. :oldrazz:

I would absolutely go for that.

Talks of a prison outfit makes so much sense, It would make no sense for him to be decked out in a General Uniform if he went to prison. I could understand him wanting to shed his prison rags after escaping but then at that point he would have to settle for earth clothing, so the whole kryptonian outfit wouldn't make sense anymore. because it isn't like he would be able to travel back to Krypton and raid his wardrobe. Unless he had a exploding planet proof footlocker.

I like it, DF. Reminds me of a jedi-knight.

btw I'd love for them to slowly reveal the costume over a number of weeks. One week perhaps a shot from behind ,over the shoulder cape picture in heavy shadow, the next a portion of boot and leg. Kind of a reverse (Superhero) strip tease lol. Finally they reveal the whole thing in an iconic setting/pose. A pose that looks dynamic & powerful. The initial SR poses looked very staid imo. This first picture needs to stop people in their tracks and have them say "WOW! F*** Yeah!

Nice idea, but I dunno if it would be smart. Just show the whole thing at once, I guess.
But I do love a good build-up and possibly it would create even more hype.

No matter what I imagine people WILL mostly be impressed. That seems to have been the trend so far on this movie.

This is kinda how i'd like Zod to look, minus the shades.

i think x-men costume sucks. :P

this is kind of what i was going for, i think i might tighten up the sleeves like i did with the abdomen

i like egarza's red piping so i hope he doesn't mind me borrowing it, i just made it red trim instead
i went for a kryptonian Z that i wanted to look like war medals

Regardless of how one feels about that design, take a good look at it. It's lounge wear. That's not even a joke. The dude is wearing pajamas and a housecoat.
