The Official Darkseid Thread

I would love to see Darkseid. That would give WB a darker Superman movie that they want but still sticking to what makes Superman, Superman.

What comic is that last pic from please?

I think Darkseid could work in a Superman movie, but not in the first one, he should be the mighty climax of a Superman franchise.

If he is in a Superman movie, him and Superman should fight 3 times, each time Superman tries to beat Darkseid with brute force, and loses badly, but at the end of the 3rd fight, Superman defeats Darkseid, ONLY by managing to turn his Omega Beams against him. This would be more than acceptable to Darkseid fans IMO, as I am one of them.

last pics from Superman/Batman:supergirl pretty good read. :cwink:

Darkseid and Apokolips have too much of their own mythology to carry out in a first movie, I think. I'd save Darkseid for the sequel.

I'd prefer Darkseid in JLA or in the last Supes movie that leads into JLA either way, I'm a HUGE supporter of Dennis Haysbert for the role.

Dennis Haysbert would be great.

Remember the guy from X-files that was always cast as the alien? Brian Thompson was his name. He'd make a good Darkseid as well IMO.

Maybe voiced by Haysbert.

Could not agree more. He should not set foot in the next Superman movie.

He just doesnt belong in the first movie, period, he needs to be built up for at least one movie before he actually appears IMO.

You're probably right. Brainiac it is then!

^IESB reported Singer and Co wanted Darksied next but the powers that be felt he was too fantastical given how SR was.

i think the problem was not the script. they just wanted to get rid of singer so they said NO.

Thanks man.

That blows, maybe they could have made a compromise. If they didn't of course. Let's hope Brainiac will be allowed to be used. I find Lex Luthor to be pretty boring to be honest. Superman deserves a better class of villians in his movies. :o :hehe:

i heard the reason why Singers pitch for Darkseid didnt fly was cause the story didnt fit with SR:huh:

Patrick Warburton in a suit for Darkseid!

Also, you guys are confusing me. I heard Singer wanted Zod(in another thread)

Darkseid should not appear in a Superman movie, esp. the first one of a new series. If DC/WB is going the Marvel Route, however, it would be very wise to hint at Darkseid first in Superman movies only for him to show up in a JLA movie.

Intergang is the perfect way to do this. STAS did it right, how they slowly hinted at it by having Intergang show up. They're a gang with super-high-technology, and would be perfect for a "Just Another Day For Superman" Action Sequence, but could also be used for a main plot: suppose everyone thinks that Lex Luthor is providing them with the weapons (a good hypothesis). Lex could use these libelous accusations to his own good. Then some other threat (probably from Lex) would come up, and so Intergang would be pushed away from the forefront to be explored in a sequel. Or maybe for a cliff-hanger.

I mean, imagine this: Lex is in jail, and some SCU guys bring in some Intergang stuff. Lex studies it, and tells Superman and the SCU guys that he wishes he could have made this stuff, that it is clearly alien in origin. Ooooh, spooky.

^Lex could be good in a Superman movie if used right (though I liked his portrayal in SR to be honest), but he needs Metallo or Bizarro with him to give Superman a physical threat.

I was sort of getting to that up there when I said that the threat was probably "from Lex", and not "Lex". He'd probably create Metallo or Bizarro or something.

Anyway, back to Darkseid. I think Darkseid may have been best summed up by Grant Morrison in the "Rock of Ages" arc. "Darkseid Is." There you go, Darkseid is literally the Dark Side. He's evil power incarnate. The only thing he can't control is life itself, which is why he wants the Anti-Life equation (which is paradoxically both extremely simple and extremely complex, sort of like PI).

Darkseid also cannot be defeated. He can be delayed. He can be stopped. But you can't throw him in jail, not even the source wall can contain him. But like our own dark sides, Darkseid will be back. He's a god, he's got time. So what if Superman slapped his ass to next Tuesday, Darkseid still has next Wednesday to try again. If the Justice League holds him off for this century, maybe the Legion of Superheroes will be less fortunate. Not even death can stop him, he's just that evil. And he's all kinds of evil: He's the corrupt evil, the chaotic evil, he's the necessary evil (just think of how horrible anybody to take his place would be!), and he's all the evils rolled together.

Darkseid claims to be a god but this is his Satanic flaw, he believes that he is a god, destroyer of worlds, alpha, omega-- god just by sake of being present as Jehovah said to Moses, "I am." What further argument do you need.

The character is elemental, and the battle between he and Superman is the archetypal battle of Beowulf between nature and man-- in Beowulf, the dragon is slain but so is the hero.

I would develop this film with the idea of creating prequels-- not sequels. You jump into the middle of things like in Star Wars.

^IESB reported Singer and Co wanted Darksied next but the powers that be felt he was too fantastical given how SR was.

In Superman Returns he carves an island from the rock bed of the ocean and carries it into orbit-- that in my opinion is too fantastic.

you can't ever really get rid of lex. He's more than just a villain. He's more like a supporting character. yeah i agree he needs the tools which is where the supervillains come in.
