Edi Gathegi answers fan questions, regarding his role as Darwin in X-Men: First Class.
He probably has visually the most interesting powers among the x-men in this imo, for i guy that is pretty unknown they certainly picked one with very interesting powers.
I was wondering though if he is a member of the X-men in this, or just an ally of sorts. Will he wear a uniform?
Out of everyone in the film, Darwin gets less love. I don't personally know too much about his character, just that I know of his abilities, but after reading his very funny answers, I like his enthusiasm and his sense of gratitude for being part of this X-Men phenomenon, so to speak.
But the question I want to ask is this: knowing that Singer likes to introduce characters that 'fit the narrative', I'm wondering why Darwin? He has a somewhat facile connection to Moira McTaggert and Professor Xavier, whereas with Angel even we get a good idea of where she fits in judging from the trailer.
It'd be interesting if his powers become a sort of overarching subtext for what the mutants are seen to become: evolution. Both Magneto and Sebastian Shaw fall into that line of thinking - 'Mutants are the way of the future' - albeit going about it another way. Else he'd simply be window dressing, only used to showcase his powers that help his team. He doesn't necessarily have to have substantial character development, but I'm sure that they'll make him a symbolic trope.
I get a "X-Men Origins: Wolverine vibe" from XFC's Darwin and I'm just not looking forward to see him and his appearance is not even close to the comics.
What do you mean by that?
I don't know, it feels like he doesn't belong to this film but Wolverine.
lol, out of all of the other oddities that this movie has attributed to it, I'd say he fits right in.
I've seen nothing of this guy on screen. They really aren't showcasing the rest of the mutants.
Well, less is more...
I'm looking forward to Darwin...I wish they made him strange looking with prosthetics, but maybe he will evolve in sequels.
If he even survives this one.
Well, maybe from what we've seen of him in the trailer, his powers are probably at already at work to adapt to his surroundings--hence, making him appear like a normal person. Maybe when in his relaxed state, he looks more like his comic self.
Ever think of it that way?
His powers may be already at work to make him appear normal?. Really? So he adapts to look like a black man pre civil rights in the US?
I'm not even gonna go there, but....yes, it's possible. t:
That will suck if they kill off Darwin...especially considering his powers, lol.
I'm just messing with you but I couldn't resist man. You opened the door wide for that one.
Just means that he really sucks
I dont think he will die in this film, Well I hope he doesnt.
I wouldnt like a sequel with the same team as this movie, I mean, I want the main characters to stay, and the others not, so would like Havok, Banshee and Beast to stay on the school for the sequel, and adding a known new character, maybe Polaris, or someone else.
He could even be in X4, given the fact that he survives any circumstance. That would mean he can stop aging process as well.
That would be cool.
Doesnt look like he is in this movie much though, he wasnt in the uniformed team shot which makes me think he either dies or is in the movie for about 10 mins.
Yeah, we've seen nothing from the likes of Darwin or Riptide.
I suspect he will die. Typical but not unexpected.
Riptide is shown a bit using his power in the new International trailer released today I guess.
