Days of Future Past The Official Edi Gathegi/Darwin Thread

I still say Darwin returns in a sequel. He always survives. Somehow.

Oh, I hope so. Maybe he changed himself into amoeba form to survive Shaw's attack and will eventually be able to reevolve into a human. He's got a really interesting and powerful ability and I'd love to see more of it.

I would love if they brought back Darwin as well. It's extremely believable, especially considering how he survived his "death" in his very first comic appearance. My friend never read the comics and he was annoyed when they killed him off because he was like "This guy has really cool powers. I can't wait to see him in acti-oh. Okay."

lol Yeah, well I felt the same way. I know they only knew each other briefly, but [BLACKOUT]I wish his death were more resonant[[/BLACKOUT]. While it was only maybe 1% his fault, Havok felt guilty for about 5 minutes and everyone just looked kinda sad for one scene. And I actually found myself chuckling when Mystique said [BLACKOUT]"Darwin is dead and we can't even bury him'[/BLACKOUT]...maybe that was the delivery or I'm a cold bastard.
Some mention later on would've been nice. And this is one of the few characters where I would be alright with [BLACKOUT]his resurrection[/BLACKOUT] due to his abilities. It was unfortunate, considering Gathegi's enthusiasm about the character during those fan chats that were posted.

I would appreciate that. Edi was really good in this. Very charismatic. I think we can expect more from him in the future, not just in X-films.

With speculation of his possible return

I was thinking, if he does in fact return in some form or another, what if he becomes like the, Morph, of this series (the way he was used in the TAS) the fallen teammate, who is left for dead,…

just a random thought

Yeah but do you really think they would kill Havok over Darwin?

Havok is like a B-list character and Darwin is like D-list.
There's much more to it than that. Havok made for a better use in the third act. Besides, it was obviously Darwin's idea anyway.. :p

I don't think it did.

Darwin's death didn't really achieve anything that wouldn't have been achieved anyway. They were already going after Shaw. You were either with him or against him and the remaining team members, by default, were against him. Darwin didn't need to die (or even exist) to push them toward taking on Shaw.

I think the attack, the discussion that followed and Angel defecting all served the turning point of the movie in their own right. We didn't need a character we didn't know or care about to die.

I disagree, I felt his death was very important, the previous scene set it up IMO when they were coming up with the names and getting drunk was to show one simple thing, these people, mutants, were just kids, with no idea what they were doing there and no idea of the importance of the events they were involved in. Darwins death changed that, it turned them from kids into adults who realised they were part of something that would change the course of the future for all of mankind.

I do think because of his power Darwin can be resurrected, and I would like to see him come back because the possibilities with his powers are endless.

Last time I viewed the film in cinema, I noticed that Darwin gives a little off-look before he turns back to Alex and makes his way outside. without trying to look TOO into this, to me, that was him accepting that this might not work out as easily as they think. They knew how possible Shaw and his crew were, (which is why I think Angel up and turned so fast to go with them, she could have been intimated or memorized by their power.) I think he was accepting that this might be the last thing he ever does, so he was going to do his damn best to make it count.

I prefer going by the old-fashioned comic rule that "if you dont see a body, then they aren't dead." And usually that is the case when a character returns. "We don't even have a body" to me for some reason ticked that notion. I Very much would love to see Darwin appear in a sequel. A lot of us were sort of hoping there WOULD be a post-credits tag that showed Darwin adapting to survive again and becoming resurrected. Would have satisfied me just fine!

I don't want him coming back. It would undue a lot of the significance and the impact of his "demise" in the first movie. As I said before, if they bring him back for anything, he'd need to play a significant role and be key to the story in the next one. I don't want him back for the sake of fan service when they went out of their way to get rid of him in the first movie as it truly moved the plot and had impact to the progression of the development of the movie.

If they want to MENTION him in the second movie, that'd be good enough. They could mention his sacrifice and bravery and it could lead into a true leadership angle for the X-Men. Xavier can no longer go into the field and lead anymore with the team, so he could use Darwin as further inspiration on the importance of being courageous and brave but also how to better work as a team and use their powers. I guess that's pretty much already what happened in XMFC, although it wasn't explicit.

I was sad to see Darwin die. Edi was such a charismatic guy in the short amount time he is on screen. I really hope he is in more movies because I'd love to see more of him. What made his death good was that he didn't go out like some wimp but went out as a hero trying to save his newly found friend.

You know what we needed in the final battle!?!?! We needed a

"FOR DAAAARWIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

When Havok burned Angel from the sky, perfect opportunity. Movie instantly moving from a 7 to 9 because of arc completion.

Mildly sarcastic.

Saying that Mystique should have done it after she tricked Azazel would be a little less mildly sarcastic :woot:

Nope. I didn't really like it when they didn't kill any of Shaw's minions and they are gonna bring back Darwin from the death, thats just too much for me.

I think that's even more reason to bring back Darwin. We have three X-Men field members now up against six Brotherhood field members.

Well I prefer them to introduce new characters than resurrect dead mutants.

As much as I liked Darwin in the short screen time he had, it would be pointless to bring him back. It would undo the impact his death was suppose to have in the first place and secondly we all know he doesnt make it in the original trilogy so does that mean he is just going to die again? I think its better to just bring in another mutant but its unfortunate they wasted such an awesome power. Why didn't they use someone with really lame powers if they were going to kill them off so quickly?

I agree

I really don't know how much help he can be in a battle when his powers are mainly reactive and defensive.

Yeah I agree
