well I got the sheriff killed when I told him about Burkes plan to detonate the bomb

If you deactivate the bomb, the sheriff's son will still give you your reward.

Geo: Do you have a follower? I really want one, since I get overwhelmed by Super Mutants really easily.

You walk into Megaton and talk to Lucas Simms. You can bring it up by talking to him about the bomb.

I've mostly been doing side quests too, but that accidentally made me skip part of the main quest. I got to Megaton and the next part of the main quest was supposed to be that I go to the GNR Plaza and talk to Three Dog, but instead I went to Rivet City to look for clues about the android for The Replicated Man and wound up talking to Dr. Li, who is apparently the person you're supposed to talk to after Three Dog. The Following in his Footsteps quest got marked complete and I apparently missed all the Three Dog stuff. :o I'm still gonna go to the GNR Plaza to talk to him out of curiosity, though.

So I just tried, and you can do the Three Dog/GNR mission if you skipped over it.

Correction, I had Dogmeat, he died on the way to the GNR building. What a waste of a stimpack.
I just got him and he got killed by a Raider with a flamer. Luckily, I'm a compulsive quicksaver, so I loaded my quicksave, quit being a *****, and dove into the fight with my combat shotgun instead of hanging back and trying to snipe the Raiders while Dogmeat drew their fire.

Good to know about the Three Dog missions. I'm on my way to do them now.

For those of you playing the PC version, was Fallout 3 kind of a bear to get working properly? It's crashed on me so many times I've lost count, including BSOD's. In fact, the only reason I'm on here right now is that it crashed to my desktop while I was looting some Raiders' corpses and I'm giving my PC a rest before I go back to it. It's not that I'm running it on too high settings because I've had times where I've played it with no problems for four or five hours nonstop. Earlier it was even worse. When I first started playing it, there was a problem with my audio drivers that kept making my speakers output really loud, obnoxious stuttering noises randomly. Then I kept having it freeze on me anytime I went indoors and looked at certain spots--turned out that one was due to the default ini settings not supporting multi-core processors, so I changed them and it's run without that particular problem since. It still occasionally crashes on me, though.

I finally made it to the GNR building. I hate trying to navigate underground tunnels. The game crashed on me again, though, so I'm gonna leave it for tonight and try again tomorrow.

So officially, which is better? Mass Effect or Fallout 3? I know they are completely different but I'm talking about the actual enjoyment you get out the game.

Each game has a nice level on enjoyment.....Id give Fallout the edge because there is just more stuff to do

I really enjoy Fallout, but my vote goes to Mass Effect. It is a more focused game, but that gives it a great story and cinematic feel to it. The gameplay is also great with the 3rd person action working better then Fallout's FPS style of combat. V.A.T.S. is unique and fun though. And unlike Fallout, the animations are actually good.

Both are great games, but I think Mass Effect is a more solid package.

So help me out here guys. I'm telling my wife what to get me in a couple of hours and need to know if I should get this or Bioshock. I want both but can only afford to get one. Which would make the best Christmas gift.

You'll get a lot more playing time out of Fallout 3....BioShock is a good game, but it's short

Fallout 3 is more enjoyable than Mass Effect to me. I don't know if it'd be considered the better all-around game critically, but I'm having more fun playing F3 than I did playing Mass Effect.

Mass Effect was my favorite game this generation until Fallout 3 came out.

Both games have advantages and disadvantages but I will say that, except for trivial cosmetic differences such animation and texture quality and the like, Fallout 3 is by far the better and more fun game in my opinion.

I feel I need to point this out specifically, both Fallout and Mass Effect focus on choice and consequence as one of their main selling points. Fallout is better at this in every regard. While Mass Effect merely gives you the illusion of choice, Fallout 3 actually lets you make decisions that will have a lasting tangible impact on the characters and world around you.

Anyway, I think if you like one then you'll probably find a lot to like in the other.

Fallout 3, youll get more out of it.

Finally completed Shivering Isles for Oblivion and with that game out of the way, I think I will finally start playing Fallout 3

Just cleaned out Fort Constantine and got me some serious Power Armor that I can't use yet. :oldrazz:

What's the deal with open world games that don't let you continue after the last mission, especially when there's so many other things you can do? It seems silly to me.
