This is seriously off-topic, but I've always wanted to know this. You know how Victor Von Doom wears a mask to cover his scarring due to the accident? Well since SW jocks this concept I've always wondered about this:

Why did the Anakin (Darth) and the Senator (Emperor) start out looking like this?

And end up looking like this?

i don't know did they ever explain it? i saw the first three original star wars and don't remember them explaining it ..but that was also years ago! i loved the ewoks!

It must have something to do with the Dark Side I'm thinking? I just thought it was interesting how it is meticulously explained as to how Victor Von Doom recieves his scarring, while SW hasn't really elaborated on why they look like ghouls.
