The Official Flash thread - Part 1

yeah, that little interview made it sound like Wally has never been Flash. I might still pick it up for Manapul's pretty pictures, though.

Or you could just google Manapul and look at all those pretty pictures.

Barry Allen is... THE FUGITIVE! :cwink:

Starring Harrison Ford as Barry Allen and Tommy Lee Jones as Hal Jordan. :cwink:

[Barry pointing gun at Hal in sewer]
BARRY: "I didn't betray the world!"
HAL: "I don't care." :cwink:

I think Flash 1 is awesome. I thought the writing would be amateurish and awkward (like Tony Daniel's), but I was pleasantly surprised by the likeable characters, intriguing mystery, and energetic action scenes. Barry isn't the mopey whiney guy we've seen in the past few years, but rather an optimistic and easy going laid back guy. Manapul and Buccellato are better Flash (Barry) writers than Geoff Johns was. Who would have thought.

The art, is the best among the new 52 so far.

This is exactly what I want my Flash comics to be. Super fast and super fun.

Perfect review Keyzer. It's exactly how I feel. This is the Flash comic the way I want it. I cant wait for Manapul to grow more as a writer. He's gonna be a legend in comics if he keeps this up i'm telling you.

In the bold: well, Barry had just come back from being dead/stuck in limbo for 20 some years, that'll mess with you.

He wasn't actually gone for 20 yrs in the DCU, that would have made him and the other heroes 50 yrs old when he came back.

And all that loneliness that Barry had could have been settled in 1 issue or 1 story arc (Rebirth), but Geoff decided to continue it for years. It makes sense, but it doesn;t mean it's the right thing to do to a character. I like my Barry upbeat, happy, and optimistic. Manapul did it right.

I think that's how pretty much everyone likes Barry. Mostly because that's how Barry's supposed to be. He was always the upbeat one amongst the Silver Agers. Pulled Aquaman out of his shell and got him to help out on land, was the primary force behind the JLA banding together (before the relaunch, anyway), was the angel on Hal's shoulder to Green Arrow's devil, etc. I think I might give this Flash comic a try if Barry's not a mopey sourpuss anymore...

Definitely a happy Barry here. He even has a sense of humor. Great characterization.

I'm loving the new Barry. Loved the Johns run before Flashpoint too. The only thing is i kinda want to boycott it because of the Wally thing but I love FM's work. :(

And with the return of Happy Barry, the fan base rejoiced. :cwink:

So... are we gonna have to watch Wally West grow up all over again, assuming they ever bring him back?

I say give Wally a new
origin, one that does not involve Barry. Let him be a separate hero, never being in the shadow of Barry but rather equals from the start.

Wally's got such a fantastic tenure as the Flash that anything that retcons his past would make him not Wally. It's all or nothing for him. I'll check out whatever comic(s) he comes back in, but if he's significantly different from the wonderful character he was before, I'm dropping that s*** faster than you can say "Flash Fact." The absolute worst-case scenario would be a Firestorm-style reboot where Wally is basically a totally different character wearing the same name. I would literally prefer he just never come back over that.

Yeah. Non existence is better than character assassination.

Alright, cool. Let's pretend if Wally were back he'd be an alien fetishist who spends all day online buying costumes used in Star Trek. Then we can stop bringing him up every two seconds. We'll all live happier lives.

The new Flash is pretty good. The story sucked me in enough to come back for more. However, the true star of the book is the art team. That two page splash that brought in the title page was freakin' SWEET!

The art team wrote the story. :o

If that happened, we'd just bring up how much it sucks even more. :)

Pretty much. Your ideas are s**t! No High five for you! :argh:

Is that issue where Flash turned into the lightning bolt that gave him his powers still canon? Because that was sweet, and was also a logical explanation for why the lightning bolt didn't kill him, since it was A: not really a lightning bolt but a direct punch from the Speed Force, and B: It'd cause a temporal paradox if it killed him.
