The Official Flash Thread - Part 2

Would you guys be upset if they took The Flash in a new direction...? Looking at X-Men First Class.... the directors completely not following the comics/source materials, and doing his own thing. Now if his own thing is a great film... and entertaining, i'm all for it because its all fiction/made up in the end. The chemical/lightning bolt is not a very interesting origin to me. Why not make the Flash a conspiracy thriller or something instead of a CSI: The Flash or a lighthearted movie? IDK. I don't know too much about The Flash, and if i don't the GA doesn't really, other than he dresses in red and runs real fast.

Nah, let's keep it faithful. The character deserves it.

If they're going to be using Barry and playing up the CSI angle, it should be similar in tone to Dexter except the main character is a superhero an not a serial killer. :p

What is the point of changing fundamental things about the character and still calling him by the same name? He is who he is and exists in the world he does, changing stuff just pleases the people who want to change it.

They should stay true to what Flash is as a character. IMO he's always been at his best when he was one of DC's more colorful characters, and they should stay true to that. My worst fear right now is that they will make a Flash movie but it will be so dark and gritty that you completely forget what a fun superhero The Flash can be. Given Geoff Johns' recent run on the comics I suppose I shouldn't be all that surprised if that's the direction they want to go in (especially since, like Johns, it sounds like they want to have Barry as the main character).

That's part of why I like Wally West. He really was basically the Peter Parker of the DC universe. He's funny, cool, a bit of a smartass, and has just as much drama to deal with when he's out of his costume as he does when he's wearing it. Right now it may be a bit of a longshot that we'll even get a Flash movie, let alone one with Wally since DC has kind of dropped him from "the cool club" lately, but hey, a guy's gotta hold out hope I suppose.

I think ideally, they should do a trilogy that starts with Barry, transitions from Barry to Wally, and then finishes with Wally. That way, everyone is happy. I don't want them to do a whole trilogy of Barry movies before they even consider doing Wally though, because then we probably won't see a movie with Wally as the Flash until 2020 at the earliest, if ever (since they could indefinitely stop making Flash movies after doing a trilogy, assuming they even make i that far). There's no guarantee that we'll even get a Flash film right now, let alone 4 of them, and that would be 3 movies of Barry I'd have to wait through before getting just one movie of Wally.

[blackout]Of course, if I were to advocate the most selfish route, I'd start with the movie that passes the torch from Barry to Wally, since I could live and die quite happily without ever seeing Barry get a "true" solo film, and on the chance that we only get one Flash movie I'd like to see some Wally action in there.[/blackout] ;)

I would not get upset if they change the character to better suit a film.
And I think the more serious route is the right way to go. Note that I said SERIOUS, and NOT dark/gritty. .

good post. I agree with the Blackout part the most

In all honesty, the entire legacy of Flash is not all that serious. Granted, it gets serious when they all have to deal with certain villains or dramatic storylines, but none of the speedsters have ever been brooding or gritty.

I read it fine the first time.

No you didn't!

Look for yourself. I actually separate gritty from serious. It not the same thing.

I don't want The Flash to be serious. It can have serious moments but the tone should be lighter.

But what would you do if they follow that CSI route they are talking about?

They can go the CSI route and still have it be light. I've seen many episodes of the various CSI shows that were "light." I think they were talking more in the sense of the procedural stuff and how he works since CSI is pretty much the most well known touchstone for that kind of work. When you say to someone that Barry's a CSI they instantly get it and have a pretty good idea of what he does and the kind of (intelligent) person he is.

I do get what you are saying, but Mike Barons' Flash run was not exactly what I would call a chucklefest, and it wasnt because of any one villain or any one storyline.

I just found out that the current Flash has been cancelled. (Though The Flash will have a big arc coming up in 'Flashpoint'.)

Damn. At the sametime, as much as I liked the new series, Barry was a hard character to gauge. It makes me think what the heck is happening with the Flash character in general and IF it'll affect the movie as well.

Will we see Wally back?

I hope so. I think it was never canned and people are taking it the wrong way.

Yeah, this seems event related to me rather than a cancellation. We have all seen events where titles are consolidated or even completely loose their own title in favor of the event titles.

Yeah, didnt most titles go to issue #0 when they did Zero Hour?

At WonderCon panel tonight Reynolds suggested Bradley Cooper for The Flash movie. :yay:

Bradley Cooper as The Flash is excellent. Plus RR and Cooper are friends, so that'd be cool to see them both in a movie. :D I could see him more as Green Arrow, though. But still, I think he could pull off The Flash.
