I wonder what his move set will be. I'm sure we can expect some kind of generic card throw move like in XML 1 and 2. A staff combo move and a staff slam attack are also likely. I hope he gets the ability to charge the environment and enemies like in XML2; that was one of the most fun moves in the game.

Yeah, he should definitely be able to charge up enemies and the environment. I bet most of his fusion attacks will involve him charging something up and another character throwing it at an enemy. I hope they make him agile. He should do summersaults and backflips. Also the staff shouldn't just magicly appear out of nowhere during a combo. He needs to have it all the time.

I hope so, bc it will set him apart from other characters. Punches can be lame but the cane gives him more reach and potentially different moves and combos unique to him rather than the generic melee punches shared by most of the characters

I enjoyed the staff in XML2... They had that stat that let you boost how much damage it did too.

As stated, though, he visibly carry it around and use it more often this time around.

Mine was delayed because of the holiday. :( I have to wait until tomorrow to get mine.

I was surprised, the holiday was on saturday for us so it doesn't normally affect me like this. I even showed up at the shop and all I saw were empty shelves. :waa: :p

Well Carey answered a question for me on his board

Hey mike Love the new site, I read a few of your interviews and it sounds like Gambit is once again off to limbo after the this arc, until you use him again. It comes off like his part even as a supporting character in legacy has diminished a little. Can you tell us Gambit fans if there are any plans by marvel for Remy?

I’m trying to set something up in the Annual, mythogma. It’s just bouncing Gambit off in a different direction, and setting something up that I or another writer can then pay off.

I know exactly what you mean about how my statements on this subject have changed. Initially I said I wanted to use Remy in a way that wouldn’t make him an adjunct to Rogue’s story (as he was in Messiah Complex) – and then I said “but it’s not his book”. The comments reflect the way the concepy of Legacy has been evolving as we work through this first arc and define our terms. I still want to have Gambit as part of the cast, but I’m not sure how far I’m going to be free to play out big character beats for him. I’d rather not use him than just use him as intermittent cannon fodder. I still feel I can do that – I mean, can bring him in convincingly and satisfyingly – but I don’t want to make promises and then not keep them.

:(

I wish someone would make use of Gambit in a more permanent fasion. I have enjoyed how Carey writes Remy, I wish he would keep him around.

Well Carey answered a question for me on his board

So basically Carey wrote the first arc, then went "Pfft, I can't use Gambit, he might take two panels away from Roguey! That's completely unacceptable!"

And he contradicts himself again, I think. He's said before that Gambit has nothing to do with the annual... and now he's saying he's trying to set something up in the annual so Gambit could at least have some foreseeable plot-line in the making.

I don't know what the big deal with Legacy was, Gambit was still pretty much Rogue's little side kick. :( Ares kicked the crap out of him.

You know your favorite character has had a rough few years when: him just trying to fight a stronger character is considered a plus, regardless of outcome.

But at least he got beat up by an actual super-powered being. Carey normally has Gambit get beat up by baseline humans or complete lackeys.

Um... Ares should be able to kick the crap out of Gambit...

I believe Squeak's complain stemmed from the fact that there was a lot of pro-Gambit hype following the issue's release... like he did something, rather than just getting beat up. Again.

Exactly. He could have at least been more vebally clever or something. He was just sorta meh, and then Rogue had to save him and then when she got all overpowered he was all suck up and mooney over her again. *sigh* I think I am about to give up on anyone doing anything of any real interest with him. He's even vanilla in Forever. :(

I think it's the general mindset of the Marvel office right now, and what they're doing with mutants...

Now that Cyclops has to be all :brucebat: DARK DARK DARK :brucebat: the Cyke fanboys have been mellowing out most characters so they pale in comparison to his OMGZ new tone... You can even see it in Wolverine.

Well, that, and Carey's convinced himself that every person on the planet -- real and fictional -- should be mooney eyed and wishing they WERE Rogue. Because she's that amazing...

Epic fail.

Hey guys. The results are in. X-men Origins Gambit placed 76th on the comic book sales charts. I guess some may be disappointed, but I'm not really. I expected it. I think its pretty good when you consider how much he is ignored and never really does anything special in the comics these days.
Of course Deadpool is at #33. How many series' does that guy have again...? Not to mention his own movie. :whatever: Gambit can't even get a miniseries even though he was on the big screen too?

And Squeek and iamlegend, you guys need to stop being so negative. Whining is not going to change anything. I'm glad he is in a comic at all right now. :p

Bad writing is still bad writing. I'm like "Yay Gambit!" when I see his name come up but then when I read it, I'm like.. "So..?" He's just being tossed around, not being his usual Gambit self. It is disappointing and I'm not afraid to say so, especially when Carey had promised us Gambit fans a joy he has failed to deliver. :(

Well can you believe he answered my follow up question/comment.

Well I guess it is back to Limbo then, since most of the other writers at marvel admitted to not wanting to use him and even liking the character. Thanks for the answer. At least I still have X-men Forever to get my Gambit fix.

Cheers, Anya. Glad you enjoyed the book (and thanks for the kind words, Matt).

Don’t – really, don’t – give up hope on the Gambit front. My back-up story for the Annual was approved, and it’s going to tease an ongoing mystery/crisis for Gambit, which will make it almost inevitable that you’ll see him again in a big role in 2010. Honest. I may even get to write it.
