Jeez we get the annoucement that Mostow is attached by Universal and Marvel and that it is his next film for surely a 2009 release date maybe 2010 due to the scope of the project...but not a word since. Nothing.

Has anyone out there heard anything. This will be Marvel's most epic film to date and the production should be huge. I wonder if they're considering an all CGI film similar to James Cameron's upcoming one? It's gonna be interesting how they present Atlantis and it's inhabitants on the big screen.

I agree, I want to hear some news. It's been close to three months and still nothing. It being considered epic is great, considering it'll be under water and the many things that can happen will be interesting to see. Knowing that you usually find all the Marvel updates, i'm surprsied there hasn't been anything yet. Maybe in the begining of 07 that we'll hear something?

It is frustrating that there hasn't been any news. However, if Mostow is starting over from scratch on the script there may not be anything to report as of yet. Look at how long Joss Whedon is taking on the Wonder Woman script!
I'm really excited about this movie and gave up hope after Colombus dropped out. I'm jazzed that Universal is continuing with Marvel on the Movie.
Hey Advanced Dark, you seem to know alot about what goes on with Marvel, can you find out any info?

Well it is probably going to take a while to get the script right. Its not just your standard superhero fish-out-of-water story (groan). It requires a lot of rewriting to get right.

I hope either attuma or tiger shark are written as the main villain.

Hi, everybody!! This is my first post in SHH!!!

I like Namor and I hope the film gets made soon. I think Gerard Butler(300) would be an awesome Sub-Mariner!!!

uh.. hopefully this will fall into turnaround and back into Marvel's direct control, they can carefully craft a new script and get proper financing.. Sub-Mariner is IMO like Thor they can't just do it any way low-budget, especially depicting the undersea world.. playing for camp/laughs would be unconscionable..
get some type of outfit on him, the black outfit is best.. no ponytail, please..

it would be interesting as a period piece (a lot less explored underwater, less satellite tech etc.), but who knows if that's remotely on the producers' minds..

I'd like to see the Namor movie, but when?
Marvel make same mistake from years...And develop the characters more intreresting for they. But i'd like to see a Daredevil reboot, this Namor, Moon Knight, Deathlok, a new Howard the Duck movie, a Man-Thing reboot, a new dark Ghost Rider movie...But dreams remain dreams, ladies and gentleman!

More interesting to who? The film audience is NOT the same as the comic book audience. Not even close. They have dozens of projects with lots of screenwriters going on at once. When the timing is right and a script is finally got final approval, and the actors schedules are clear, and everything is aligned then it goes forward. That's the way it is. Marvel chooses which ones are ready first though of course they try to prioritize from the narrowed list.

Well, i'd also like to see Namor in a F4 sequel (like Silver Surfer). But Marvel had licensed the characters in different studios...Marvel had make some mistakes...

More epic than Thor? I say thee nay! :word: :cwink:

I read the Thor script but not the Namor one. I understand there's is or was script issues. Namor and Thor would be similar in scope but I think Namor would be a much larger task to bring to the big screen. Bringing Atlantis to life with all of it's creatures and showing the battle between them and us could be quite huge. The Thor script though was the definition of epic.

I wished all Marvel characters would fall back into Marvel's direct control.
But that is especially true of such a character as Namor.
Imagine this being done by the hacks at FOX? You would get all your fearing, then some, poor casting, poor directing... Namor's potential would be tarnished in the eyes of the public.

I'm sure your a nice guy, but boy, I'd like to punch you for even suggesting that!
Just kidding, but as much sense as that could make if the FF movies were actually good, the way the currently are leaves much to be desired, as far as I'm concerned the messed up SS, along with everything else they touched.
Namor has epic potential, in an FF movie he'd just be a side to a bunch of stupidness.

Guess this script isn't as readily available as the Hulk one ey?
You and other trusted people were let in on it, but there was no leak?

I see the Atlantean struggle versus humans being a big one, but do you find anyone in his rogue gallery good enough to be considered epic?

Cameron is already being quite ambitions with his Avatar movie, I don't think Marvel has the time or the guts to even consider going in the same direction. At least not until they know that Cameron's gamble paid off :oldrazz:!

Of course; Warlord Krang and Attuma. Have Krang betray Namor and work with the barbarian Attuma to overthow Atlantis.

It will be gloriously epic. :word:

Definitely see them taking liberties with the designs, maybe go a bit more adventurous then just green and blue people with pointy ears, or revamp Attuma's suit.

Hopefully not as drastic a change as Abomination, but really, so long as it looks cool, and the whole movie is great, I can tough it out.

As long as there is some hot, inter-racial lovin' between Princess Fen and Captain McKenzie! :word:

Last news I heard about Namor movie was the first news Iheard. They described it as Star Wars underwater. I've been excited since but not holding my breath

Depending on how many movies Marvel is planning on releasing in one year, I doubt we can expect a Namor movie anytime before 2015!

Up till 2011 they'll be busy with an Avengers movie, and after that people will probably want sequels to the solo franchises of at least Hulk and Iron Man, which will have been out for a while by then.

Actually it appears they want to get at the very least a movie each for ant-man, thor, captain america, iron man and hulk before doing an avengers. And by at least i mean that they were implying they would want those franchises established before they went for an avengers flick, so expect at least two or three iron mans and cpatain americas before the avengers turn up. So i guess they will slot a namor movie in between there somewhere.

I don't think this film will be made.

BINGO, sadly I agree. Namor has been little more then a carefully thought up Internet fodder" whose purpose has been to stir up discussion. Just look at the character, never been able to hold his own title, grumpy type of guy, and he really has never been involved in an epic story.

I could see a direct to DVD cartoon movie, but that's about it. Remember that gay tv show, "Man from Atlantic" where Bobby Ewing swam around wiggling his body? Talk about "Brand Euck!"

i'd rather they hold off on this, until Marvel gets the full rights back.. then they can re-develop a script and scale it how they need to.. you just don't want to do Namor any kind of way.. it's not parody, it's not camp.. it should be treated as serious fantasy, like Lord of the Rings, Thor, etc.

Ten bucks says they turn the character into an Aquaman-clone and ignore his back story as an Atlantean born and raised prince.
