seems like he has the "look" but I'm not familiar with his acting ability . . . I think a lot of comic buffs tend to lean too much toward "looks" when thinking about casting possibilities, which isn't much of a surprise seeing that the media being translated here are "graphic" novels

Yeah thats pretty true to be honest. But I will say that sometimes people arent the greatest actors but can suit certain roles really well.

cavill's a pretty good actor. he's on the tudors as the king's best friend, and he plays that role very well. he's been in small roles in some recent movies like stardust and whatever works.

i think he's just now getting recognized as a leading man with the immortals movie, and cold light of day with bruce willis and sigourney weaver.

the guy has the rep of being the unluckiest actor in hollywood because he was constantly being everyone's 2nd or 3rd choice possibly because of his age at the time during the bond, batman and pre-superman returns casting. he may also have been on the shortlist to play green lantern too.

The dude definitely can act. He just really havent been given the opportunity to shine yet. He always plays background characters.

And yes, he's definitely been passed up on some big gigs on both Superman Returns, Batman Begins and Bond.
Let's see if he gets another shot at Supes. He's definitely matured ALOT since, so I'd say his chances this time have upped greatly.

I think if they go the "Superman Begins" route, Cavill has got to be the top choice. He looks a lot more like a MAN then he did back when Returns was casting.

Again I wouldn't mind Cavill would be alot better than Hamm thats for sure and Cavill definitely has the look.

Also interesting is that in the Cold LIght of Day film he plays an American. So we'll get to see how he handles the accent.

If they go with Superman Begins he's the best choice. Simple as that. I the fact that he wasn't cast at 21 around the time they were casting Superman Returns has ZERO impact on his chances now, different film, he's older, new directors, new direction for film etc. He looks nothing like Reeve, so it's no wonder they cast a Reeve look a like to play in a pseudo sequel. The random complaints from fans about Cavil don't hold any water and i honestly don't think the Snyder and Nolan will ignore a good actor simply b/c the studio prefers American. A solid director will fight for the best actor to get the part dispite the studio, happened with Iron Man and look at how that turned out.

The last week or so I started thinking about Cavill again. If Hamm can't get the role, I'd be all for Cavill getting it. Especially since he got passed up so much in years past for being too young at the time... what is he, 28 or so now? If they're looking to keep this Superman another 10-15 years, he couldn't be more ready.

I could also picture him alongside Natalie, if that one rumor was true.

I thought he had a good American accent. His voice is definitely commanding enough for Superman and his acting was stronger than it needed to be for that film.

He also had an American accent in that Hellraiser movie he did. I haven't seen it, but there are clips of it online that I'm too lazy to search for right now, and the accent sounds great to me.

His American accent is fine. The only thing to worry about with him being British are the kind of people who think that Jesus was an American.

he is the best choice, as big a fan of smallivlle as i am and the original supes reeves films. Cavill is the best age and the better all round for the role out of those mentioned so far and the pics above i think only strengthen that arguement

I DO have a feeling that he may just pass on Superman because he has a history of trying out roles for comic book films and not going anywhere. Maybe it's due to a lack of exposure, despite being on The Tudors. That's why I hope he gets an 'Armie Hammer' spotlight where he proves that he has the gravity, charisma and presence for a big role.

I'd be very happy if Cavill was cast, I'd be happy with Routh too, but I really don't think any of these two will get the role, especially the latter, wich is unfortunate, as both have the "look".

He did get the lead role in The Immortals. But that won't be released for another year.

That's the thing. wah. He needs something to be out by Spring or early Summer, so when they're casting for Superman (I'm assuming before Comic Con, we shall know for sure) they can if

a.) If he can carry a big movie.

b.) If there's any buzz.
