Iron Man 3 The Official IM3 Trailer Thread!

Not to mention Shane Black and Chris Nolan are totally different filmmakers, stylistically. So it's a pretty shallow comparison to make, simply because they are similar looking.

It's gonna happen. Nolan's franchise was that influential whether you want to admit or not. It doesn't matter if Donner, Raimi and Singer set the stage, Nolan added to it. Anything that is wrapped in darkness, dread, emotion, etc is referred to The Dark Knight Trilogy. Is it fair? No, but is it any different than when a portion of fans claimed that Nolan and WB were taking a page out of Whedon's and Marvel Studios' playbook simply because there was humor present in the TV spots? It's all trivial.

I'm not doubting that it wasn't influential but people are giving Nolan way too much credit as if he invented the wheel. Frank Miller, Tim Burton, and Paul Dini had already made Batman more edgy and dark. The character was in a good place until Joel Schumacher appeared at WB Studios much like the Joker as an agent of chaos. I would argue that Batman Returns is more grotesque and dark than any of the Nolan films.

It just gets obnoxious when anything serious these days is automatically said to be ripping off TDK/TDKR. Movies like Robocop, Empire Strikes Back, Matrix, Blade Runner, Terminator, Reservoir Dogs, Top Gun, James Bond, Aliens, are probably just as influential to Iron Man. It's kind of an insult to Shane Black, who has been in the business long before Chris Nolan was a name.

I thought that the trailer was pretty damn good. I really disliked IM2 so here's hoping that this one is much better.

I think there's a mistake when people say Nolan made films dark and gritty, when in fact, he just injected a serious tone underneath the superhero genre. Specially in TDK, the mixture of superhero movie with a sociopolitical context worked very well.

I don't think Iron Man 3 is following that path. The movie is just taking the characters into another level of depth.

I must be an odd ball because I didn't think of Nolan's Batman once while watching the trailer.

I honestly didn't think about it either. I was too busy thinking "Holy s**t, this Iron Man movie is going to be f**king awesome".

First Skyfall, then Iron Man 3. Can't any of you guys stop comparing movies to Nolan's movies?

Looks amazing. I'm hoping this one (unlike IM2) lives up to the hype.

Burton himself would disagree with you.

As for Nolan receiving too much credit, yes and no, but Nolan revived a dead franchise and restored it to it's prestigious glory; and he's the reason why Batman's popularity is now growing outside the US market. Nolan deserves alot of credit regardless of his predecessors.

Shane Black might have started in The Biz before Christopher Nolan, but Nolan has been more active. Either way, I don't think Black cares about fans comparing IM3 to TDKR. Minor comparisons are always made. It's common.

Batman has been popular outside of the US for many many years now.

Tony won't wake up even after Pepper startles him

I wonder what this is all about. Is he just tired after the day and tells the armor to just fall apart?

There's a difference between where Batman was a decade ago in the foreign markets and where the character is today. China is Spidey territory, but as if recently Batman's popularity has increased there.

Five years from now, who knows? Bats might be just as popular as Spiderman in that market.

Me neither, but some people did.

Just like in the sports world, some people have to compare everything to something in the past... I.e.Anthony Davis is the next Kevin Garnett or Mike Trout is the next Mickey Mantle. or sure, LeBron is good, but he's nothing like Jordan. You know what I mean?

Yea I think they showed of the mental toll it's had on him, he's been able to largely laugh everything off until this point. It's finally catching up with him.

There is no way it'll be devoid of humor, but I think they wanted to set the tone with what Tony will be going through in this first trailer.

Nah, definitely not, but I also think it'll be toned down a bit from the previous 2. There has to be some though as I think it will be his coping mechanism really.

I kinda have a theory that he is subconsciously controlling the suit in his sleep...?

-Stark tells the suit to break down in pieces for the night

-Stark goes to bed

*Later On*

- We cut to Pepper hearing something

-Pepper tries to wake up Tony

-The Armor has reassembled itself and inspects Pepper.
