Ok with the film comming up soon i thought i'd create this thread now so we can talk about what the thoughts are on the sound right now based off of the awsome new clips.

And also to talk about what the sound experience was like at the theater when we all see the movie when it comes out.

Personally im fasinated with film sound and love the process of work that goes into it. It inspires me for my sound design work.:woot:

I think so far that this film will have excelent sound.(And actually the company danetracks, whos famous for the matrix films is working on the sound.)

I love the way the hulks roar sounds. And i also like when he growled in the factory clip. His growl had some serious bass in it. :wow:I mean deep and gut renching bass. I can't wait to experience this film in the theater. And it could possibly become the new dvd to show off my surround sound system.

All the roars and growls, stomps, punches, etc. I've heard so far are exactly what I'd been hoping for and felt was sorely lacking the first time around. Transformers had been the movie I typically used to showcase my surround sound system but I think TIH has real potential to take it's place or at least rival it if these clips are any indication. It makes complete sense that Hulk and Abom due to their gamma-enhanced mass monsterism would be producing serious sub-bass frequencies.

My favourite sound thus far was Hulks 'Huh?' when the grenade dropped infront of him in the Confrontation clip.

The sound mixing is one reason to see this movie in the theater as opposed to pirating it. Anyone here recall how people pirated the work print of Ang Lee's movie and criticized its CGI based on unfinished FX? This better not happen with this movie. Still I'll be sad when I buy it on DVD because it won't have the same impact as the rumble of those big theater speakers.

Bah! Some of the early Shinsei Godzilla (Godzilla please come back!!!!) movies are a better test of a home theater setup, especially GMK. :whatever: What a waste of a movie. I hate it, ever single minute of it.

Definately i love deep bass. Transformers was good with surround sound usage and sound design.but i think it needed some more agressive bass not that the bass wasn't good, but i have a thing for house rattlin bass.lol.like war of the worlds.

But yes with monsters like hulk and abomb.Their better be some soul shaking heart poundin bass.lol. And i thought that the sound in the first hulk was excepitionally good.(it was done by gary rydsrom) It has nice bass frequencies aswell.

Was surround sound even utalized to its full then, as in todays sound? And there are way better films out that test the sound systems better than a old film like that.

Look at my name. I've been watching Godzilla movies for 30 years now from the original in the 50's right up to the millenium movie Final Wars. The Shinsei movies came out in the year 2000 starting with Godzilla Millenium and ending with Final Wars in 2005. That's not that old. I know Toho's current bigwigs, most of whom worked on the Showa and Heisei movies, like to skimp on the budget but I'd think by 2000 they grasped the concept of sound mixing. I take it you have never watched anything but the Showa series? If you want a sampling of good Kaiju movies I recommend Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris and Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghodorah: All Out Monsters Attack, both directed and written by Shusuke Kaneko, but look for any that have the original Japanese language track with subtitles. The dubs really, really suck.

Oh ok.Cool. I might have to check out those dvds sound. yeah most of the godzillas i watch are the older ones. And i caught a few on-demand.

But yeah back on topic. It seems that danetracks really had fun putting the sound together for this movie. Expecially it seems that way in the street-fight clip. I love the detail into the impacts of the police car. Like how you can hear the siren sounds getting all busted up.lol.

Do you guys think that the sound for the hulk is better in this film than the other. I think this one is better because its more beast like, but without being too much

LL said recently that he is working to get the sound right on the DVD as this is important due to the film having a greater DVD life than cinema life. Its good to know they are addressing all of these issues. I hate it when the sound is amazing at the cinema and then when you watch it on DVD its a totally different experience.

Absolutely. I was very let down by the lack of a truly beastly roar in Hulk. Sounds like they nailed the roar in just the clips and trailers I've seen so far. Also all the grunts and other noises Hulk makes in the aforementioned clips sound apropriately guttural as well. Love the sound of Abom's voice. Now if they make Hulk's voice sound as good I will be completely satisfied.

That was interesting for him to note. Great to see he realizes the role sound design plays for a character like Hulk and that a film lives in a theater for several weeks. It lives on dvd forever.

Yeah thats very good news. I'm suprised their working on a dvd already. When did he say this? Could you post a link so i could read it?Thanks.

Louis, are you working with the DVD release in mind at all?

Letterier: Next week that's what I'm doing, yeah. Full on, yeah.

Hurd: When we're dubbing he listens to the crash down because he wants to make sure that the sound is right for the DVD. He's been doing that constantly all the way along.

Letterier: Yeah, because your movie lives for like three weeks, a month and a half if you're lucky in the theater. Then for the rest of its life it lives on DVD and now we're the first Universal Blue Ray DVD and so we're really putting everything into it with multi-layers. So everything, all this stuff – there's no secret – that was cut out of the movie will be put onto the DVD.

DVD sound? Bah! Now that the format war is over, Universal is on the Blu side, and when this hits Blu-ray it will likely have a full 24-bit/48 khz DTS-HD Master Audio track (lossless). Oh baby! Once you go lossless audio, you have a hard time listening to 448 kbps Dolby 5.1 tracks.

Anyways, I can't wait to hear it at the cinema, and at home. Hulk (2003) on HD-DVD has such a phenomenal mix (even the lossy 1.5 mbps DD+ track blows my mind), so I have no doubts that this will sound just as good, if not better!

ok i just saw the ordinary man tv spot. And at the end the hulk makes a bird-like scream. And im sure that its just a tv sound. But wow. did that seem out of place to anyone else?

I didn't notice that, do ypo mean when he does the thunder clap cos that sounded ok to me.

Hey guys. With the film comming out in one day(Or for some it came out today) i ask that you please post comments on you thoughts about the sound design/ sound effects. Things like that, i am very curious. And when i see it saturday i will tell of my thoughts about it as well.

Thanks

Come on guys i know you all enjoyed those sounds in the film. I didn't see it yet but will saturday. Now start discussing sounds. I heard the thunderslap sound was awsome

Ok. just got back from seeing it and was completely dissapointed by the sound. I know it wasn't the movie but the theaters speakers.

Their was absolutely no bass at all. And when i wen to chack at the last row of seats. Come to find out their was not subwoffer.WTH.

Then the surrounds didn't sound active at ALL. I think i was actually listening to a 2.0 track. Or the surround sound wasn't turned on at all. I mean their was no bass or surround activity at all. I was utterly dissapointed.

I knew from the clips and such that their was good bass and surround usage. But my theater completely ruined the experience. An dnow im unsure how the actually sound was. Overall i thought it was a pretty average sound desgin. Nothing too original or outstanding. But i'll have to wait to experience it on dvd to its full. This whole situation really makes me mad.
