Is it just me who has atrocious sound levels in parts of the blu ray??!

I have tried everything to get it right on my Bravia, (I don't have surround, but it comes with dolby virtual), and nothing works.

Really detracts from the film a great deal as the music will be building up and then go all quiet as the scene cuts. Plus the gunshots and explosions are incredibly weak, esp at the parking garage scene.

I guess it has something to do with IMAX sound, as it was fine in that when I watched it if I remember correctly.

Sorry in advance if I shouldn't have started a new thread on this. Please delete if need be.

it ain't just Blu-ray. Usually I'd be the first person to call a "close this thread" on this, but this is a legit point.

I have the DVD and the sound is really high or low. The music is LOUD as are the action scenes, but the dialogue track seems to be lower.

Maybe WB should concentrate on making one or two PERFECT versions of the movie instead of 8 different types of releases.....hmmmmmmmmmm? lol

Idk, maybe it's mixed in Dolby 5.0 and I didn't notice and I'm just trying to hear it in Stereo like an idiot lol.

Watching the film now on SE DVD...no audio problems whatsoever.

This is a trend I've been notcing on DVD's lately--blaring sound (especially music) during action, and silence during the rest of the film. It's not a huge pain, because the action should be a little louder, but it's a little severe, so I have to change the volume a lot.

Iron Man was also annoying, but for a different reason--the music was so damn quiet that I had to crank the volume to hear it during the action.

I kinda agree, although for me, most of the gunshots and explosions are exceptionally loud, almost too loud, but the talking is so quiet in some parts its hard to hear, I'm constantly adjusting the volume between scenes but everyone has a different setup so its hard to blame it on the blu-ray itself, most reviews give the audio a much better rating than the video, which is the part I really found a little worse than BB, outside of the IMAX stuff of course.

I've had no problems with the sound on my DVD.

Interesting to see this problem affecting Blu Ray. I have the DVD and the music is 200 decibels louder than the dialogue. If I have the volume up to hear the dialogue the music and sound effects are absolutely blasting on my tv.

Thing is, it's not so much the usual sound probs like many have mentioned here whereas the dialogue is difficult to hear over the music and other sounds, moreso that the film itself has problems with the sound levels.

For instance, right from where the cop car sirens soun stops after Joker leaves the bank in the bus, right through to the 'buyer beware' bit, the music wavers up and down, as does the dialogue and doesn'y knit together right. Most noticeable right before the 'more chance of winning the powerball bit'.

Anyone else know what I mean here, or are my ears screwed. :)

All these sound level complaints have me worried.

I don't have a surround sound system, just plain old stereo on my HD TV.

Untill I upgrade it's why I can't watch movies like Heat anymore. Dialogue is incredibly low and hard to hear and the action is super loud. I don't like having to constantly turn the volume up and down when im trying to enjoy a film.

My Blu-ray copy sounded fine. I would of liked it to be a bit more dynamic in terms of the surrounds but otherwise no problems. Had it at 50 on volume all the way through the movie, vocals were crystal clear.

The mix on Iron Man was terrible. I thought it was my surround sound at first but good to hear it's not.

The Dark Knight has some issues and I noticed that in the beginning so I hope there is a re-release but this'll do for now. Still love the movie.

On my DVD, the Joker's theme seemed to be too low. The gun shots and sound effects sound excellent, and so does the diolague but it's just the music sometimes. Like in the very beginning when the flaming bat logo shows up and you hear why so serious, it is very low.

Same with mine. One scene in particular when Batman crashes the Bat-Pod after he swerves around the Joker in the street, the why so serious theme is virtually silent in the scene when Joker pulls the knife out and starts skipping down the street towards Batman.

Yup, that happened too to me. Also, when the why so serious theme shows up with the wide shot before the convoy action scene, it's one of my favorite little moments in the film. It's just chilling, but it's barely there.

The second highest grossing film of all time domestically and we get this?!

I've definitely been noticing the same things. When watching DVDs I have to hold the remote to constantly adjust volumes so I can increase to hear the dialogue, and lower it when the music starts blasting.

Yeah, it's because some stereo systems cannot cope with the surround format for sound.

Jow still doesn't have Blu-ray? What a chump! :woot:

Yeah, I'm constantly turning my volume up and down on my SE DVD.

"BAM!"
*turns down volume*
"blah blah blah"
*turn up volume*
"BAM!"
*turns down volume*
"blah blah blah"
*turns up volume*

:whatever::csad:

I wish they'd quit saying "blah blah blah"....

Now that you mention it I had this problem on my BD as well. I remember seeing this in the theatre and every time the Jokers theme came on I got chills. However last night I hardly noticed the theme at all. I thought it was just me or something.

I tend to agree about the low dialogue but the gunshots are meant to sound ultra loud - it's something Nolan took from Heat. Gunshots sounding loud make them seem real, urgent and meaningful.

Its true. In theatres, I remember being startled by when Two-Face shoots Batman because the gunshot was so loud.

On the bluray it is muffled and quiet.

I must add, just got my copy of the standard DVD TDK. The sound levels are the same as they were in the Theater. Just very unbalanced. The music over powers the whole thing. Hearing the dialouge is hard if you have the volume turned turn a low decent level, but if you dare turn it up then at any moment that music will BLAST and scare the crap out of ya.

But really, I have no actually problem. I just hate turning the volume up and down so much. If I didn't have to worry about neighbors next door, I'd just leave it up and not bother, but I don't want them knockin'.

The DVD is fine on my 5.1 system. The bass and music is quite high at points but it's nothing big ti b honest. However today i went to my cousins place as he's got the Blu-Ray and hasn't hoocked up his 5.1 to the PS3 yet but the sound was quite bad. The voice's were going high and low, the music was too low at points then suddenly to high.

I'm going to go again to see how it works with his 5.1 system once connected (should be the end of this week) to see how well it does.

I think it's just that you need an actual 5.1 system. It can't be anything else really. I think the Blu-Ray tracks can;t play fully through the TV's default stereo speakers.

Also i think the movie uses very high and low sound frequencies (bass especially on low frequency) so you need 5.1 to hear that.
