Incredible Hulk #611 was awesome. More discussion later.

Later? Awww....I've been waiting all day to hear about it lol.

I might have to pick this one up, getting a lot of 5 star fan reviews.

I still am waiting to get it as I am subscribed to it but of course I still have not recieved it.

I didn't like the reasoning behind why Skaar finally put aside his obsessive hatred and killing intent for the Hulk. He's been driven to kill his father for the longest, so the revelation to change his mind should have been much bigger.

Instead, [blackout]he witnesses the Hulk save some people[/blackout] and...presto...Skaar doesn't want to kill Hulk anymore?

Now, after his mother, the people of planet Sakar, and the Hulk's Warbound told Skaar countless times how the Hulk isn't some monster worth killing, this never deterred Skaar...so I really feel this conclusion was weak.

I think it's more about the fact the he finds out that Hulk wasn't aware she could have been saved still at that point.

In other words, while Skaar is trying to kill him, the Hulk is still trying to save people at the possible cost of his own life.

Knowing he'd do that for complete strangers, he realizes if the Hulk knew Caiera could have been saved, he would have done so.

That would make for an EXCELLENT explaination...now when that gets explained in the pages of IH, or Hulk, then I'll be happy.

Otherwise, its just another example of how us fans have to do the writers' work and come up with our own explainations for blanks left in the story (or in this case, rationality).

In other words, while Skaar is trying to kill him, the Hulk is still trying to save people at the possible cost of his own life.

Knowing he'd do that for complete strangers, he realizes if the Hulk knew Caiera could have been saved, he would have done so.

Well...now that I thought about it...Skaar was told how Hulk saved all of Planet Sakar, so if saving a planet isn't enough to persuade Hulk-Son...

Fans of intelligent Hulk should be happy. Looks like we've got the Green Scar version back. I was worried when all we saw in the preview was growls. Looks like they are going to be giving some credence to the theory that Hulk is not just "Banner turned stupid." Hopefully the general audience will figure that out in time for the Avengers movie.

Other awesomeness:

> No Poochie!!! If we can just get Betty and Rick back to normal we can finally get past the last couple years of Loeb-induced bad storytelling (how many times have powers and/or personalities changed completely, for no other reason than to confuse the readers? Wendigos in Vegas, arrrrrgh!)

> The fight was brutal, well choreographed and with lots of power. It really came across as a memorable smackdown.

> The Brian/Bruce - Bruce/Skaar parallels. Just brilliant. This was the payoff the whole Skaar storyline was leading up to. Extra awesomeness to Greg Pak for giving props to the writers that came before him - Stan Lee, Peter David, and especially Bill Mantlo

Incredible Hulks looks appealing but I don't know if I can deal with Betty as Red She-Hulk. :csad:

All of Banner's closest cast members (the many three of them) are all Gamma-folks...

Yeah, a more even spread would be nice. De-Hulkify Betty and Rick, at least. I could be cool with Marlo remaining the Harpy.

Out of interest, if the fight had continued, who looked to have the edge? Hulk or Skaar?

You know, if there can be a Wolverine clan, and a Spider-man clan, why can't there be a Hulk-clan? Besides, I like the idea of everyone scared whenever a Hulk shows up, as evident by one of "She Hulk" books (to paraphrase)...

Lyra: Hi, I would like to have some coffee-
Barista: It's a HULK! Run for it-!
Customer: Don't kill us!
Lyra: I just want some coffee, damn it. Gah!

Come to think of it, wouldn't have a Hulk clan serve as a metaphor for being the ultimate minority, particularly along racial lines? Hmmmm...

One more thing: I don't know why, but I would love to see a team-up between the Supermen and the Hulks, like back in the day. Would they be friends or foes?

Anyway, looking forward to the end of WWHs! :)

I liked Rick a long time before A-Bomb (which remains a stupid name). And I hate that She-Hulk is stuck with the Hulk family now. She's a perfectly capable, well respected member of the superhero community, not an outcast like the rest of those gamma-powered psychos.

Finally saw the issue, great great stuff. It's funny....hilarious even; AGES ago, after the first modern Hulk movie there was going to be a cartoon show called Hulk and Son...I thought it was a terrible sounding idea, but now we have a complete Hulk family, and despite odd and crappy beginnings for some of the members (Redshulkie having to be connected to poochie) I'm loving where we're at. Things are not ideal with Betty for some, but I'm intrigued how their dynamic will grow and affect things between Bruce and Betty.

My thoughts Spoiler warning:
As it was said, the fights were amazing, but the heart was phenomenal. The art really sold the power behind each hit, the emotion and inner turmoil. It's easy to show Banner vulnerable, but to show the Hulk with anything other than an angry snarl or even a Fixit sneer, can be odd and potentially awful if not executed right. Here it all comes together and finally Banner shows he's not a monster like his father. He's not perfect, but he's got another chance. I think Skarr abonded the grudge not because of the saving, but everything leading up to that point. He's seen how selfless Bruce has been during this close to the WWH arc, and he saw that his father, not savage, not Fixit, was back. He pounded him, but showed that he doesn't want to hurt him. The fact that he had to goad him also may be part of it. He may have heard the legends, but thought that they either were just legends, exaggerations or outright lies. Even if he believed them, he probably thought that Hulk's acts were for gain, (they did make him a king in the end) or to repay a debt to his brothers. The people he saved were NOBODIES, not Warbound, not nobles, not even fellow heroes. He also showed that for all his destructive power, Hulk is always paying attention to those around him and never wants to hurt the “innocent.” That moment also showed Hulk's vulnerability; he was getting beat down, and instead of retaliating, he left himself open to more attacks in order to help people. I think everything came together and just shoved open his eyes. Maybe he did believe all along, but he wanted to extract revenge for the pain, and just see his father and get a worthy fight from him.

Another thing I liked in this was Betty. While brief, I did enjoy her moments; she's still in there considerably and I eagerly await her future appearances. Like I said before, I hated the idea of her being a Hulk originally, but given Pak's writing, it's turned out great and she's considerably grown on me. Can't wait for the future!

Interestingly enough, looking at the preview I posted earlier, I can see that Bruce is now done treating Skarr like a soldier. They're on the beach and he's playing (probably before whatever threat shows up), but since it's unlettered we don't know why Betty freaks out and bashes the crap out of Bruce. Maybe the police have something to do with it?

I guess I'm just not really a fan of Betty in general. Bruce's time with Caiera may have been a lot shorter, but I'll take her any day of the week over Betty.

They've got themselves a new Wolverine with Ross now.

Nice to know that Hulk is still intelligent. I was afraid after the latest issue was over he'd go backwards, but so far it's not the case. Rather "Now I'm in control of it."
