Planet Hulk: The best Hulk story?

Is Planet Hulk the best Hulk storyline?

  • Planet Hulk is the best Hulk story I've ever read

  • I don't know about the best, but it's definately one of the best.

  • It was okay. It had too many faults to be called one of the best.

  • I didn't like it at all. Don't see what the fuss is about.

  • Haven't read it.

For those of you that missed it...

Banner actually appeared twice during Planet Hulk.

The first time was in the PH story in Giant Sized Hulk #1. It was set in between the first and second arcs and was called "Banner War".

Wanting to refresh my memory, I just re-read "Banner War". And I believe that this is an important and over-looked part of Planet Hulk.

At the end of the story, I really feel like Banner and the Hulk are finally on the same page. As even though the Banner psyche had won control of his (their) body, it seems the Hulk's arguement had managed to convince him that while they were on Sakaar it was better to let Hulk have control after all, so Bruce transforms back. Allowing the Hulk to continue to run the show.

This lends credence to Banner's behavior when we later see him in "Armageddon Part One".

Well it seems this Hulk is intelligent and therefore Banner becomes less important, a bit like when the Merged Entity was around before it became Professor Hulk.

It seems like every few years the writers of Hulk take a new direction that everyone seems to like; mainly because if they continued with the same old storyline or Hulk character, it gets pretty damn dull. This definitely wasn't my favorite Hulk storyline. For one thing, the writers knew they had to take a good year to tell Hulk's tale, because all of this is just leading up to World War Hulk. And, at times I found myself getting bored. This story could have been told in less issues, but it really seemed as if the writers needed to stretch it out.

I've actually liked quite a few Hulk storylines. My favorite run will probably always be when Bill Mantlo was doing Hulk. He had The Hulk get pardoned, General Ross kill himself, Bruce separate himself from The Hulk, Betty and Bruce got married. I still picture some of those covers in my head:

Also, Peter David really took Hulk in a great direction, especially following the events from Hulk: Ground Zero:

Peter David was continually making the Hulk's adventures fresh and new. Compared to him, I don't think Planet Hulk stands up.

Yeah that's why Banner was smashing the ground with his fists while the Hulk stood above him triumphantly. I mean Jesus.

What does Jesus have to do with it...? :whatever:

Yes I know what we saw in the last panel of he story. But I read that as even though Bruce had willingly given control back to the Hulk. Hulk is unaware of this and so just naturally thinks he defeated Banner.
