But wouldn't it highlight that his iron man armour is indeed better than his jericho missles offensively and defensively? I

I thought stane would have had a jericho missle on his encorporated into his armour or at least teh ten rings organisation would have been able to use some against him.

It would have been a great way for him to show off his main repulsor blaster as being able to take out everything in sight...

It would have been a far better way for him to drain his battery rather than by just gaining altitude and would have been an excuse to drag out the fight a lil bit longer...

personally i would have been happy if the fight was at least five minutes longer. A lot of time was used up hiding or messing with the reactor

I have to disagree there, for Iron Man to be vulnerable at all in his suit he was depicted as having trouble with vulcan fire and ordinary missiles. If he got walloped with the Jericho, an uber missile it would've been game over.

I also think that longevity aside the action was fine, and that the reactor/hiding bits were minimal at best.

I think the movie was absolutely fantastic. Had a hard time going to sleep after watching it last night. I'll be seeing it several more times over the next few weeks.

Here is a nugget for you...

The first guy Tony beats up in the cave is none other than Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine.

Kinda Ironic....

Humor...action...cameos....good solid plot...Iron man gets a 500/10 from me, LOVED IT!! the thing i loved most was

was the hint at S.H.I.E.L.D in the end

and not to mention the amazing Iron man suit

9/10 for me. This was as much fun as the 1st Spider-Man flick. Looking forward to The Incredible Hulk next month.

Barring the Xmen flicks, Marvel definitely seems to understand how to portray their characters on film (unlike DC)

Yah, he was vunerable, far more vulnerable than he should have been considering the iron monger was based off real old tech, even with its enhanced power source.

I wouldn't want him to get walloped by any jericho blast but at least show his repulsor technology was more than capable of dealing with an assault of that magnitude...

to be fair, i thought the iron man suit got tagged by too many missles during that film, it didn't do really well to damage.

the point of the jericho was that it was made to be the most advanced offensive weapon, yet it was never really used offensively and the fact that stane wouldn't load his armour he was designing with jerichos is odd.

It's hardly like a scene with iron man weaving in and out of an infinite supply of missles wouldn't have gone down well...and would have provided a better reason for running out of power than simply flying.

This is truly my favourite comic book adap yet. As a huge fanboy and lover of cinema in general it's a very rare thing for me to come out of a movie and love it so much that I can't fault it. But that's exactly what happened last night after seeing Iron Man.

So:
Downey Jr. is on seriously top form and although he, at times, can come across a little too cocky or immature he is a joy to watch as Stark. Howard is a little underplayed as Rhodes throughout but with promises of sequels and the possible involvement of War Machine (yes, seeds are sown) it's plain to see this is simply an introducion to the character. I even enjoyed Paltrow, who is actually excellent even though in the past I've found her unbelievably irritating in prettty much everything I've seen her in. And Bridges is an excellent as always as Stane (if a little 2D as Iron Monger)...

As far as geekgasms (my personal favourite experience when it comes to adaps)? They are here in abundance! The MK1 suit in motion, Stark's first flight, S.H.I.E.L.D, Happy Hogan references, Stan Lee's cameo (genius!) and a certain one-eyed colonel mentioning the 'A' word... Happy times!?!?

As we've all seen from the clips and trailers the cg is truly excellent and action sequences are played out beautifully with just enough realism and grit to outwiegh the comic-book-throwdown scenes. Ripped from the pages, seriously.

Also (one last point) something that most people are forgetting to mention, this film is at times laugh-out-loud funny!

I could gush all day about this, I'm still quite hyped about it and that never happens....

By far one of the best comic films so far. Can't wait to see it again and can't wait for part 2!:im:

I'm sorry, but this review is giving me 'Ghost Rider' like deja vu.

It definetly wasn't a heaping pile of *!$& that ghost rider was. Hands down this is the best comic book movie to date. It was faithful to the book but still worked extremely well on screen. There seemed to be a good balance between action, comedy, and the characters themselves (Mainly stark, but hey its his story)

I was worried going into this flick that it was over hyped and I was expecting to much. (The first previews that surfaced had me giddy like a school girl) The film didnt let me down one bit. The funny thing is I never was a big Ironman fan, but when I saw the previews I knew this movie was going to be different.

Favreau did an excellent job directing the film, the shots were set up really well, the casting was spot on for Stark. Robert Downey Jr. well he did absolutely fantastic as Stark.

This is no ghostrider, Daredevil, xmen, or spiderman, it is better than all of them!:im:

Marvel's first good movie since 2004's Spider-Man 2. God, I was so happy that I didn't need to leave the theater disappointed like I've had to the past three years.

There was like only one scene that I didn't like. The one where Tony and Rhodes drink in the jet and the stewardress strip. I thought that was unnecessary.

+ I didn't like how the Finnish subtitles were handled. Iron Man wasn't Rautamies and S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't Y.P.K.V.V. like in the comics.

Nicky Fury cameo was great. Looking forward to TIH and PWZ after this! Hope they're not the usual Marvel disappointments we've been used to these past years. Bring back the quality!

The best Marvel superhero origin movie yet. Yep Iron Man is better than Spider-Man, Hulk, X-Men, Daredevil, etc.

Spider-Man 2? Please wait for Iron Man 2.

Yah, he was vunerable, far more vulnerable than he should have been considering the iron monger was based off real old tech, even with its enhanced power source.

I see your point but my disagreement would be that I think his vulnerability was justified. Think about it, he was a rich playboy that only thought about himself, and this was his first battle with his frist Mark 2 suit, that he was still working the kinks out of. I liked seeing that vulnerability because it made him more realistic. Going from rich playboy to a fighter you are going to be vulnerable no matter how good of gear/weapons you have. Meanwhile Obadiah seemed strong and powerful throughout the entire film so he could compensate for the lake of technology and rival Stark who has the better gear.
Remember horse back Afghans went up against Russions with tanks and were successful (not all the time), so technology doesn't always mean you have the upperhand. Either way in short I think his vulnerability played to the progression of the character of Stark really well.

WHAT AN AWESOME MOVIE!!!! I give it a 10.

I was going to go with at least a 9 but the closing scene (After the Credits) pushed it to a 10!!!!!!! (I actuallly yell out AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!! after that scene).

First of all, a shout to the Dragon Horde comic company here in the ATL for sponsoring the free screeing I went to last night.

As for my review of the movie: THIS IS HOW A SUPERHEO MOVIE SHOULD BE DONE!!!!!

It's respectful to the source material but tweaked it for today's audience without bastarsizing the legacy of a beloved hero or his legacy to the point you don't recognize him in his own movie. Kudos to Jon Favereu ahe did his homework and it showed on the film!!!

Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark!!!

I have been reading Iron Man on and off for over 35 years and I tell you RDjr looked and acted like he stepped right of the pages of a comic and brought Tony Stark to life. Jon Fav casting of him was nothing short of GENUIS! I don't know if they give academy awards for these type movies but he deserve a least a nod.

I truly believe his transformation from War merchandizing prick to Armor clad humanitartian prick!

What else can i say about that suppporting cast that hasn't been said already except that it is exceptional! A+ perfomances all around. And I loved the set up for War Machine!

The CGI was flawless, but that's to be expected from ILM (the best in the business) and tha action scenes were mesmerizing! perfect pacing and a great story all around! Wow what a movie!!!

Jon Fav you hit this one right out the ball park over center field and it's still in the air and I love his role as "Happy Hogan". EXCELLENT!!!!

This is definately one of the superhero movie that will be argued as the best adaptation along with Batman Begins, Spidey 2, and Superman the movie. Ironman deserve to be mentioned along with them!!!

Yah, he was vunerable, far more vulnerable than he should have been considering the iron monger was based off real old tech, even with its enhanced power source.

The CONCEPT was based on Tony's old tech, but he updated it to match the Mk3, exampled by Stane's HUD and on board weaponry, which was pretty beefy without a jericho.

I wouldn't want him to get walloped by any jericho blast but at least show his repulsor technology was more than capable of dealing with an assault of that magnitude...

to be fair, i thought the iron man suit got tagged by too many missles during that film, it didn't do really well to damage.

I can kind of agree with that, but if you watch him easily handle everything, then where's the drama?

the point of the jericho was that it was made to be the most advanced offensive weapon, yet it was never really used offensively and the fact that stane wouldn't load his armour he was designing with jerichos is odd.

It was AN advanced weapon, one of many. It was just a blanket bomber anyway. IMO there was no need to incorporate it everywhere.

The point wasn't that one is more powerful than the other like a DragonballZ style power war SS1 vs SS3/ Mk3 vs Jericho. The Jericho was a macguffin whilst the suit was Tony's empowerment and redemption.

It's hardly like a scene with iron man weaving in and out of an infinite supply of missles wouldn't have gone down well...and would have provided a better reason for running out of power than simply flying.

I can see that, kind of like a mix between Hulk 2003 and Silver Surfer in FF2. But he wasn't just flying for the sake of it, he knew Stane's armour wouldn't take the cold.

One of the things I really liked is how [BLACKOUT]S.H.I.E.L.D was in the movie the whole way through, which is a lot better then what I thought we'd get; an out of place cameo after the credits.[/BLACKOUT] So basically this was a very integrated movie from that perspective, merging two separate components of the Marvel Universe seamlessly.

That WAS awesome, although I didn't twig until Stark pointed it out at the bar. Christ I'm slow.

Brilliantly set up. Another notch on the brilliant post for this movie.

Seeing it today. I'm hard to please so who knows if I'll like it or not, hope so.

The most impressive thing about this movie is that no one dislikes it. There are a few that found it average, but this movie looks to be a movie with no "haters" so far. I wonder if that will stand. I even know people who hates Batman Begins and Superman TM. But this movie is one that is kinda universal positive. Very rare quality for a movie. :)

Ill give it till sat but I'm thinking we wont see too many haters! :yay:

Did anyone notice that the photo of young Tony at MIT (in the news reel at the beginning) had him next to "Dummy" (the robot that uses the fire extinguisher in the scenes where Tony tests the boots)? I guess he invented it all the way back then.

I would never have noticed if I hadn't already seen that scene (boot test) earlier.

Either way, it's a very nice touch.

Dude, me too. I'm always boring my friends after a trip to the cinema with the slighest nuances and niggles but dude, seriously, you won't be disappointed.

Good catch Kent, I'll look closer next time I see the movie. I do however think RDjr in that photo came from "Less than Zero". :oldrazz:

I noticed the name while watching the credits, but doubted that was actually THE Tom Morello...are you sure?

Similar kinda vibe as the earlier GR reviews.

........like he doesn't want to be the one who says it wasn't as good as the all Hype. I may be wrong, but it's just a vibe.
:word: I can tell you are 100% wrong! This is not GR I saw this last night and didn't have any expectations either way and it just blew me away! The story, the acting, the special effects,All the hidden stuff that I won't reveal here. It was just great! I will definitely see this movie several times. I should also point out I'm not a real Iron Man fan but I am now! This Is the movie you have been waiting for "TRUST ME ON THIS!:word:
