O.K, now i'm confused.

Everyone knows who he is NOW, but from 1968 til around 2003 or 4 when Stark told the world he was IM, and became director of S.H.I.E.L.D. everyone believed the story about the bodyguard.

I still believe Batman Begins is the best comic book movie to date and I say that being a huge Spider Man fan. That said, Iron Man ranks 2nd in my opinion to Batman Begins and that is saying alot.

Iron Man is a fantastic movie and seem to have all of the right actors involved in it. I wasn't sure about RD Jr. playing Tony Stark at first but man he really won me over with his performance. And it's for that reason why I am eagerly anticipating The Incredible Hulk because Ed Norton is also an awesome actor and I think will nail the characgter of Bruce Banner.

Marvel Studios did an excellent job of promoting one of their lessor known superheroes and proved that you don't have to be well known to be a huge hit.

Thumbs across the board for Iron Man.

im looking foward to the sequal because this was maybe too muchof an origin story, but a really good one. i left very satisfied
avengers!!!!! war machine!!!:woot:

hey i know this is off topic but since im a newby i cant start a new thread.
does any one have a picture of the ten rings crest logo thingy. i saw there was a banner with it on it in the cave and in the end credits it showed it.
anyone? thanks in advance:yay:

ps: i read on superherohype to stay till the end of the credits, i did and the only other people who stayed were teenage boys like me, we were looking at each other and were like "yeah thats right we know whats coming" one of my first real "geek" experiences. lol

You can’t compare Iron Man to Batman Begins or the Dark Knight for that matter. Marvel wants their movies to be commercially marketable (I.E. lots of action and short run times). This is why Edward Norton and Marvel had the spat. Edward wanted something longer, with more dept. Iron man like, Spiderman, FF, etc. will make lot of money because young children will go see it. It’s a create popcorn movie, and can be enjoyed by all if you leave your brain behind. Batman is a much darker and complex movie were older teens and adults will go see. I applaud Marvel for wanting to make the most $$$, however I believe TDK will be the better film overall in substance and critical review.

Good job, no bad thoughts come to mind, but give it time. I'm glad Favreau lived up to the my expectations. I would recomend this movie

Just got back from seeing it:

Not really an IM fan,and have limited knowledge of the characters (other than their cameos in other Marvel media's) so when i say..that this has got to be the BEST Superhero origin movie i have ever seen, my opinion is not bias! The only origin movie i say comes close to it, is the first Blade movie. This Blows all other Superhero origins movies out the water, and is definitely in the league of Batman Begins. I found there was enough character developement for each of the characters to introduce someone like me into the IM world.

I've heard ppl critizing the final battle. Well to me it was perfect. My only thing i thought that could have used improvement was the rock music being played throughout the movie, but everything else was perfect, and nice S.H.E.I.L.D reference by agent whats his name.

Oh, P.S; why does the hero always seem to loose his mask during the final battle? LOL! :D

Question: does the world know that Starks is IM in the IM universe? Or was this just something that was thrown in at the end of the movie? I'm sure in the sequel if his identity is to remain a secret, they'll start off IM2 with the same press conference scene and him saying, he was just joking!

9.5/10

Oh, btw..look what i spotted in my theater lobby..lucky we had a cam on us!

yea we have that at my theater too i thought it was really cool.

And that really was half the charm of the concept.

I agree that you can't compare them because Batman is darker in tone but the rest of it is rubbish. These movie are geared towards the comics fans and since when do IM and Spiderman have short run times?

I'll give you FF becasue they kinda butchered that.

Agreed. That whole post was TDK fanboi drivel. Just sayin...

just got back from seeing it, WOW! is all i gotta say. Man what an awesome movie, definetly one of the best comic book movies in a while. And the scene after the credits made it 10+ for me

I didn't stick around after the credits..my son had to pee, badly! :D Can someone give me a description or direct me somewhere where i can find out what happens?

It was good. Fun and entertaining....exactly what Iron Man should be. Marvel seems to know what they are doing so far. I'm so glad they started their own studio.

I'm giving this movie a 9.5. It was freaking great, and I loved every second of it, BUT I just don't think it's 10 worthy.

Still, amazing stuff. I've actually come up with a line for when people ask me how Iron Man is. I say,

"Iron Man is absolute awesomeness."

Stark walks into his home, and Jarvis cuts out into static. When he ponders, a dark figure across the room says "Not the superhero type? Hmph." Stark questions this mysterious figure who comes forward and calls himself Nick Fury. "I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative." :woot::word:

Damn. I may have to catch the movie again just for this scene.

So far with Spider-Man and X-men sequels on hiatus for the time being I'm looking forward to more IM sequels.

Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Ghost Rider need to pick up the pace and deliver good stories.

when did Ghost Rider in the comics ever eat jelly beans? SHEEEEESHHH!!

What I love about this film is Robert Downey Jr. The film does what a lot of superhero films (including the very good ones) have failed to do- we actually have a lead character where the costume is actually secondary. The armour is just a weapon and it is all about the wielder of that weapon. I got a kick out of seeing the armours in use and their development, but you never forget that this is Stark's journey and it is he that holds your attention and not (the admittedly great SFX) throughout. In fact, Downey is so good you have to think that if Depp can get an Oscar nom for Pirates of the Carribean, then surely Downey can for a far superior film.
Rest of the cast was great too. Paltrow had the worst job as generally the female characters aren't that great, but she succeeded in making Pepper not as irritaing as you might imagine. I hope they give her a bit more to do in the sequel. Really liked Terence Howard and the banter he had with Downey and you could sense his excitement at getting to be War Machine. Jeff Bridges was great- he made Stane quite likeable at the beginning but really endowed him with menace.
Can't forget Jon Favreau- top marks. He made a film that stands on its own while also hitting the g-spot ('g' for geek). And if you didn't stay til the very end- well, you'll be rushing out to see the film again so you'll soon know.
Not all superhero films can or should be as dark as Nolan's Batflicks and they can be almost be set in another category- but i think Iron Man raises the bar for the genre, just when you might have been let down by Spidey 3, Fantastic Four or Ghost Rider.

My sentiments exactly. Those were good movies, but certainly not nearly as good as they could have and should have been. What do you expect when MSJ handles 2 of the 3?

I actually liked Ghost Rider. Was it as good as Iron Man? Not even close, but I thought it was enjoyable. MSJ did a better job on it, then he did on Daredevil.

FF seems to be dead in the water, which is unfortunate, because I thought those movies had elements of things right, but never pulled itself into a cohesive movie. I must admit they are a guilty pleasure for me, but it's obvious why they fall short of expectation.

Needless to say, Favreau did a bang up job on this movie and deserves all the credit in the world. The RDJ casting is by far the best casting of any superhero movie since Christopher Reeve.

Saw RoboCop....I mean Iron Man last night and it was good....not great....but a fun film...that wasn't boring, campy or totally over the top.

Downey Jr did a good job carried this film....without him the film would have been in trouble IMO. Bridges did a good job until the end.....Paltrow was below average and seemed to be mis-cast. Howard seemed a bit weak surprisingly IMO. Seemed like he had a tough time getting a hold of his character like Paltrow. The mumbo jumbo on how the guy saved Stark in the beginning...was a little.....ooookay? 3rd act seemed a bit rushed...but overall the pacing was good. Definitely one Marvels better efforts (especially after the disappointing Spidey 3, crappy FF2, crappy Hulk, ruined Daredevil and Elektra, the unbalanced Punisher, and rush job of a film X3. Finally they make a well balanced, non silly film. GhostRider....ugh! Thanks should go to Favreau and Downey Jr. The score was non-existent and rather weak...too much "rock" used IMO. Didn't have enough of an epic feel for me.

I didn't like the ending with the Sam Jackson introduction as Fury. Mostly everyone in my theater started laughing (in a bad way) when Jackson introduced himself. Bad casting decision to bring in Jackson who has been typecast as the "MO-FO" actor. Maybe it was the assistant theater manager telling everyone to stay until the end ...making it sound like it was going to be BIG surprise. It wasn't....

thejon93's "Iron Man" Review:
Overall, this film runs as smoothly as any comic-book-to-film adaption I've ever seen. There is just so much fun is too be had with this film that it can't possibly be overlooked.

Although the final act doesn't really deliver the goods, the film as a whole is very fulfilling. It serves as a really fantastic origin story that has some fantastic character development as well as acting which is what truly drives this film along with Favreau's terrific direction.

I don't think a lot of people were expecting much from this film, which is why I think it is received so well. The chemistry between Downey and Paltrow is pure gold. Undoubtably the best comic-book relationship story ever told and I honestly don't think you can compare it to any other comic-book relationships because they're all pretty mediocre which is another reason why this film is so great.

Another reason why this film is great is simply Downey as Stark; best damn match-up ever... period.

I loved the way it ended off with Stark revealing he's Iron Man, the last act was cheesy but, it was nessisary for every movie like so. But, I can gladly put that out of my head because this film is terrific. Totally exceeded my expectations.

Rating: 8/10

Oh!

The after credits scene... it was... okay, I guess. Sam Jackson as Nick Fury I think was seen like miles away. I honestly wish they didn't add that in, I wish it was just left with what that guy from the "S.H.I.E.L.D" said about the shortened version of the company's name. I was surprised when he made that reference I was like: :wow:. But anyways, it was nessisary as well I guess for any type of 'Avengers' movie to happen in the near future(which I would hope to be directed by Favreau, or others who will work on the seperate versions of the hero adaptions and sorta add in a team-effort but mainly focus on their own character's delemas, whatever).

I was under the impression that this was an action movie...not an epic piece....and what is it with some of you people and the 'score' of the film? I understand with film that it is a great tool to enhance the film, but if the movie is good on its own, I don't care about the score one way or another.
