Superman Returns was about how the characters react to there greatest hero returning out of the blue all of the sudden. It was also about how Superman was trying to rediscover his groove. I think the ending was pretty much a 'now that we have this out of the way, Superman can begin his life again'.

The next movie is bound to be better.

There in lies the problem though, when you make a movie under that assumption and the movie performs below expectations, you end up where they are now. Superman Limbo.

Given that Luthor knows Supes has a son , i doubt we'll be seeing another direction

I think Luthor will always be in every Superman movie, whether there is just ONE more (wish will be the case if Singer keeps adding his own personal "touch"), or 10 more.

I dont mind Luthor. He's the Quintisential Superman villain. However, as long as there are other Superman villains in EACH of the sequels. The whole franchise can be about Luthor enlisting the aid of each of the villains for all I care.

I just want a movie with ACTION and LESS "MUSH".

AND GET RID OF THE KID!!!!!

The more I think of it, the more it sickens me.

I don''t mind the character Luthor , just the interpretation of Luthor.
And while i agree with ya that Luthor is the archnemisis of Supes i don't see any reason why he should be in every movie.
It takes away the screen time of other villains. Not to mention that there will be many people who will say that Lex is underused , why is Lex appearing in the movie because Darkseid is fighting Superman etc etc.

IMO as long as they set up Lex as someone with a big company ( LexCorp) it settles it. He's always going to be around but doesn't have to appear needlessly in future movies.

Well said.

It depends on how this movie is marketted. If they push the foe as actually being a physical threat to Superman, show a few shots of a beat down or two, people are bound to give it a chance, and from there, word of mouth combined with the geeks going for the ever present multiple viewing, things are bound to look brighter.

I think you're pretty much spot on with that contention.

I hate to be so blunt and stereotypical, but I have a penis..ergo, I want to see Superman kick somebody's butt, and vice versa to satisfy my bloodlust.

Let me add mine as well.

Would also enjoy lots of good fight scenes if he WINS some of them this time and they don't make them too gross & gory a la Burton's Batman (blech Penguin blech).

I'll be stereotypical myself and demand that Superman get somewhere in a relationship in the next one and show off those muscles of his (either in the same scenes or separately).

People are expecting big things from the sequel. A supervillain(s), 2 or 3 big fight scenes, and alot more action.

I wonder if they'll try to give the public what they want this time.
or will they ignore the fans pleas and do their own thing.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out, no doubt about that.

SR is what WB thought that the public wants. and it make good numbers IMO. but very bad numbers if you think about the 200 milion budget.

studio needs to give the public what they want. its about money. they invest money so it is only loical that they want to make a profit. and you dont make a profit if you make a movie for 30% of people( not saying that SR is that kind of movie).
300 made so much money because it was a cool badass movie. not because it was extreme faithfull to the the comic IMO.
it was just a badass movie. men were full of energy when they came out of the theater and girls were extreme horny.
it was also a beautifull(style,...) movie. of course WB got lucky with 300 like they did with BB and nolan. i dont buy that they used their brains with those movies.

I thought it was O.K., nothing special though. If the sequel gets made, I really hope they up the anti big time. A couple of supervillains, 2 or 3 fights, and alot more action.

As much as it pains me to say, if the sequel is more of the same, I may just wait for the DvD.

Classic. :D

Girls were extremely horny when they came out of 300? Now I wish I took one to see it instead of going with dudes...I could have gotten some ***** but instead got a punch in the back of the head.

extremeLY :yay:

That's a pretty succinct summary. Why is it the truth? Hmmm... A bunch of really buff guys running around in not much, showing off. Check. Naked-ish girl dancing ...um... uninhibitedly? Check, although she was a bit young. Actual grown-up, mature, capable, attractive, *equal* couple - not May-December; not two bimbos; not idiots; not rich lazy people - actually caring about each other and protecting each other, and she's every bit as tough as he is? Check.

Excellent movie. A bit bloody, but extremely well done. I'd like to see it a second time in a big theatre - IMAX, preferably, just for the size & volume.

THIS IS ORGAAAAASSSSMMMM!

And how exactly is Supes supposed to be badass??? We know Spacey can't be bad ass anymore... not a knock on him... but the fans are tired of Luthor as a main villain... all they need is a really badass villain... and they have to ditch the soap opera angle and get rid of this kid... it will only lead to disaster

Batman Begins has spoiled the fans. Now whenever a franchise doesn't go their way, they scream "REBOOT! REBOOT!"

Back on-topic: I haven't read most of this thread, does Spacey's return mean we have a sequel or not?

Batman Begins set a new standard for excellence in quality and respect for the source material. That's not spoiling the fans...it's giving them what they deserve.

Now, when a superhero franchise fails to deliver, the apologists can't say "well, if they tried to make it more faithful to the comics, it wouldn't work!"

superman can be a badass on hes own.
i dont think that you need to punch a guy and scream ''swear to me'' to be badass. or scream this is sparta.
you can IMO show superman like a badass.
