The Official Lois Lane Casting & Discussion Thread

Not really. Luthor may be the most important villain but not supporting character. That's another mistake that has been made including lex in every film despite Supes large and impressive rogues gallery. Lex is a good character but isn't necessary to tell every Superman story. Lois on the other hand is essential to the mythos, adds balance, is one of the most well known fictional femaly characters in modern history. She deserves significantly more screen time than Rachel Dawes.

Ironically, while Lex appeared as the bad guy in the Donner films, he never got a proper backstory.

Since Nolan wrote corporate Lex, I'm hoping he gets major focus that lays out his journey from the Suicide Slums to Lexcorp.

Lex is to Superman what Joker is to Batman. Then again, we also know the Kryptonian mythology is said to be a huge part of this film, so it's possible we will get a Kryptonian villian as well.

The popularity of Earth One sans Lex and the recent seasons of smallville, heck even the old George Reeves show never featured lex, proves that people can enjoy clark and Superman without lex.

One got mixed reviews thus far, the other is generally bad and the George Reeves show was one for little kids. None of those are good examples of Superman done right, though the jury is still out on Earth One..

Looks like Lois and a jacked-up Jason Schwartzman. Routh was such a bad choice. Re-watching L&C right now and Dean Cain was awesome. Don't know why he gets so much stick.

Because his Superman was way too campy like Adam West's Batman in the 60's. On the other hand his Clark Kent was prefect.

It's that common misconception that bothers me. Season 1 and 2 of that show is not campy. People only seem to remember how it ended up and not how it began.

It's a campy rom/com. Likely the exact opposite of the Nolan/Goyer approach to Superman. (Thank goodness).

Cain's portrayal of playing Clark and Superman exactly the same was laughably bad.

True. Cain wasn't a campy Supes , he was more stiff , though his Clark imo is still one of the best. The show itself got campy in season 3 . The show really isn't as bad as fanboys make it out to be , though it does have it's faults as all of the versions of Superman have.

Selma Blair looks like she never gets any sleep, and if im correct i think she's almost 40

Yeah people complain about that show waaaaaaaaay too much. I dare anyone to put up the first episode against Superman Returns and tell me honestly which one has more well developed characters that you actually care about and want to watch. Seriously people look at the bad way it ended up and forget that they crafted the best DP staff thus far. You watched not for the effects or Supes five mins on air, but for character development and interaction. some people keep crying about "it was a romcom, blah blah". Sure it had some of those elements in it and that wasn't a bad thing. I sure enjoyed those characters a whole lot more than anything in SR. The characters had actual personalities, imagine that.

They aren't going to cast a Superman who looks early 20s with a 40 something Lois.

Blair looks old.

I wouldn't mind seeing Maggie Siff in the role

First, we don't know how old Superman's gonna be.

Yes we do. The casting call revealed Clark will be early 20s when he decides to be Superman.

Second, I don't know what you're looking at, but the woman in that photo (even when you're trying to make her look as old as possible) does not look 40! She looks amazing for her age, every actress in Hollywood wishes they had her secret. I think she looks so young, in fact, she'd even match with Cavill.

My glasses aren't rose colored. Even with makeup, she looks old

Third, I know she's won't be cast. Hollywood isn't that daring, nor passionate, nor accurate.

Or stupid.

Bad casting choice.

There's a scene in the first season of Mad Men where her and Jon Hamm are on a rooftop together, and all of a sudden I thought, "These two should play Superman and Lois Lane!" That was the first time I got on board with the "Jon Hamm for Supes" bandwagon.

It will never happen, but I think they would have made a great Lois and Clark. And they have awesome chemistry together onscreen.

She's probably a bit too old too, considering she's the same age as Bale (1974).

I think *realistically* we should be looking at actresses around Blake Lively's age range as strong possibilities the studio may cast.

Never saw that scene with her, but I honestly don't watch much Mad Men, or much tv at really outside of a few shows.

She is a little bit older than what they may be looking for but she doesn't look that old. Watching her on SOA she looks as though she could pass for being in her late twenties, early thirties

Regardless, Katie Holmes, Kate Bosworth, Malin Akerman, Megan Fox, Blake Lively...

I'm skeptical they'll cast someone born in 74' at this point. Female leads cast by the studio are generally younger than their male counterparts.

Oh I am too, but she's just someone I wouldn't mind in the role. But studio's do cast older female leads

HA! You guys are funny. then again I'm 47 sooo??? she looks young to me. oh and by the way she is what 35 or 36 thats young to me. LOL!!!

Maggie Siff is 6 years older than her co-lead Charlie Hunamm on Sons of Anarachy and you'd never know. She looks good

They may rule her out as she'd look fine in the first movie, but will probably start to show her age in sequels, and that would definitely look strange having a middle aged lois next to someone like cavill as supes. I'd put money on them casting younger, mid 20's probably.
