Honestly, I'd be down with another good LOTR game based on the films, even if they come out with remastered versions of EA's The Two Towers and Return of the King.

I thought that Two Towers game was pretty lousy. The graphics were good for its time but it basically was just a handful of clips from the movies that they made playable. The Fellowship game (which was based on the books and not the film) was a bit better but it was pretty short and probably the easiest game I’ve ever played. Never played the ROTK one.

The Return of the King is the only one that I've played. I quite enjoyed that one.

But it’s understood that in the Zaentz Co.’s view, substantial live-action film rights reverted back to them last year in part because Warner Bros. had not been actively developing new “LOTR” and related content.

Like what did you want them to do? Make Gimli: A Lord of the Rings Story? Remake the trilogy every ten years? What other “content” is there?

This is so indicative of the problem in Hollywood where everything is just a content mine now.

This might sound like blasphemy, but I wouldn't be opposed to them making a sequel with the right team. That might contradict the happily ever after fairy tale ending of the third where the evil is definitively defeated, and I'd understand the opposition, but there's some interesting threads you can pick up.

I'm not saying do Sauron again, but it's conceivable there can be more conflict. Not necessarily world ending conflict, but conflict.

For sure. The Tolkien estate is sitting on a treasure trove and they damn well know it. Others are looking to make a buck by buying rights.
