The Official Mass Effect thread

There was no trace of sarcasm in my post. I don't even see how it could be misinterpreted.

is the game worth getting...???

is it better than KOTORII or w/e?

If you liked KOTOR then yes, don't hesitate in buying it. For me I was never really that much a fan of the KOTOR games (mainly because I'm really not that big a fan of Star Wars), and I didn't like the way combat was handled, but I liked everything else they did with the game. When I heard that Mass Effect didn't have that kind of combat, I instantly knew I was going to buy it.

I never quite understood why people don´t like KOTOR´s combat system?
KOTOR is a PC game that came out on the Xbox first, not a console RPG like many like to say.
The combat system is pure PC RPG, and it´s just fine in my book.

For me, I had to adjust because being so out of control bothered me. But hay, I adjusted and the game frikkin' rules so. KuDoS:up:

Not everyone is a fan of pure PC RPG combat controls. Not too hard to understand.

Dungeons and Dragons is a complete mess. It works for boardgames... but there's no need for it in PC games where everything can be automated anyway. It just bottlenecked the experience.

I agree. D6 these days is just tiresome if it's in a game that's along the lines of Mass Effect or a RPG. Heck, Morrowind had it and I loathed it in there as well... because it was an even poorer translation of the system. Not to detract from the greatness which was Morrowind.

Considering you bought a 360 and xbox live, and also considering you're NEVER EVER NEVER on....you need it.

It's sweet. I beat it like 6 times.:csad: <----achievement ****e

I need to finish getting the "use skill" achievements and start my new game...

...but I'm still working at my new games Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Tenchu Z, might be picking Assassin's Creed up this week since it's on sale at Best Buy, and still need to beat-beat Saints Row.

I played through KotOR about 20 times without ever once looking at or noticing the D&D mechanics behind it. It was a semi-turn based RPG, thats it, there's no need to make it sound more complicated than it was. It was actually one of the simplest RPG systems around.

I haven't either. Everything about KotOR's combat was pretty simple though, it only took about 20 seconds to learn it.

Not enough to keep you going back. Side quests aren't interesting. No real replay value. AI issues and flaws. Some real dumb AI in some cases. Not that long a game either. Some people can overlook these problems because of the free running, thats where a lot of the difference comes in some of the hit or miss reviews of the game. You just have to decide if you can, so I say rent it to be careful.

It's Official. Mass Effect owns my mind. It's been a while since I've played any RPG, the last one i played entirely was technically Zelda on wii. But most people know the story of any zelda game before they even play it. But Mass Effect gets you wrapped up in the story. I can see how some people with limited attention spans could write the game of as boring but I garuntee if you play for more than 3 hours your hooked. Playing the game id like coming home and watching one of my favorite shows except I'm playing it. Its wierd.

I just finished Mass Effect (took a little over 20 hours) and it KICKS MASS ASS!!!! OMFOMFOMFOMBOOBOOBOOBOO!!!!! So freaking AWESOME!!!

Wasn't it so awesome at the end, when Shepard kicked out the elevator windows and stepped outside? It was an epic moment for sure.

I wanted to do that over and over again. The whole climbing the side of the Citadel thing....omg:up:.

I dragged my ass with it and finished in about 30, but I did every side mission I came across. I didn't get any companion achievements though which pissed me off because I pretty much used the same team the whole time.

I hated those. The achievement details aren't specific enough. You have to do pretty much all the side mission with them, and at least 15 main missions.

Took me a couple tries.:csad: The Asari one is the worst.
