I'd like to see new races appear alongside those we have and be more important. Maybe an ally race, an unpredictable one that causes serious problems within the Council and a really strong outright conquest race from outside the galaxy with leaders who are trying to dominate.

That sounds like it could be awesome but I don't know if I'd enjoy fighting against Turians or Asari as a race now (aside from designated evil members of those races), or even Krogan. I don't want to devalue the bonds we're supposed to have made. :csad:

I don't think that would happen in the ME universe. The galaxy was already sort of like that before the games started, the races started becoming allies over the course of the trilogy. I like to think that the whole Council/Galactic Government system of the galaxy becomes a bit more open with the Elcor, Hanar, Krogan, Quarians & Geth becoming members of the Council.

Though, I don't think that would cause as much conflict as a Cold War. So maybe a ME Cold War would be the best play to go from a gameplay/story aspect.

I don't think the Council races would break up, especially the big 4. They are stronger together as a bloc than they are separate from one another. I'm thinking considering everything that went down the Turians and the Humans would be especially be buddy buddy.

If you're looking for political intrigue I'm curious what happens to the Terminus systems now that the Batarians are no longer a factor.

But when there is no mutual threat, that is when people start getting territorial. It would've been to the benefit of the US/UK to remain allies with the Soviets following WWII....instead, within a few years Berlin was divided. Once there is no mutual enemy, folks start looking out for their own interests rather than the greater good. It is inevitable that it cause tension and I think that would be a really interesting place to explore. If ME3 was the ME equivalent to WWII, the Cold War is the next logical step.

One of the BW devs just confirmed ME4 is going to be on the Frostbite 3 engine that just debuted with the Battlefield 4 trailer.

I can't imagine what next gen Mass Effect is going to look like. It already looks great.

They've already made Frostbite games that were not FPS: like how the Unreal engine has been used for both first and third person games.

Not 100% sure what's being said here so I'll just weigh in with a general comment on the subject without replying to anyone in particular. Mass Effect would lose a lot going to 1st person with the character of the main ...character (:o) being so important to the game. And I think the combat system from 1 to 2 went from loose RPG type shooter to tighter high-quality 3PS. Doesn't really play like a FPS to me.

I think if you were fine with how 2 and 3 handled then I don't see anything to be worried about. That model has really worked out for them well thus far and while I'm sure there will be some changes I fully expect to be able to still be able to hit left trigger to go firing a power off.

Conisder that by 3 roughly half all their users are not playing soldier, which apparently is way up from earlier games. I think by making everyone competent at shooting they've actually encouraged people to try different classes.

And their MP was in no small part successful due to being to be able to unlock classes that had unique and different powers so I can't see them going and ditching powers, if that's the concern.

Yes, the multiplayer is great because of the variety in powers & playstyles & agreed that it was a good move to allow all classes a degree of shooting ability. To clarify, I'm not personally concerned. I think the current game mechanics (whcih don't feel FPS to me) will play a big part in the future of Mass Effect, which is also what I want.

I've said it before but I really wanna see looting and leveling mechanics as in the first one but keeping the combat of 2 and 3.

Eh, I don't really think looting has a place in Mass Effect. At least not in the previous games. It sucked and didn't make a whole lot of sense in the first one, and in two or three it was haphazardly added in just so they could put check beside loot on the "Is this game an RPG?" checklist.

Great place for them to end up!

Frostbite 3 looked amazing. Can't wait to see what Alien faces would look like on it.

Better than human faces!

What are you talking about? Mass Effect had great human faces!

Eh, that wasn't the norm. The only really bad expression I can remember is the creepy Miranda romance smile from 2 - which isn't all that bad for 90+ hours.

Not saying they are Uncharted or anything but for a series that relatively didn't seem to use a lot of motion capture it worked more often than not.

I really don't know much about Frostbite aside from Battlefield is purdy so I don't know if it'll make all the facial animating easier or not. :hmm

BioWare talks possible Mass Effect spin-offs - Garrus, Illusive Man or Javik to star?
BioWare may be done with Commander Shepard, but there are plenty of other candidates for the role of Mass Effect lead. Speaking to OXM in our new issue, on sale now, the developer's Casey Hudson, Mac Walters, Dusty Everman, Mike Gamble and Preston Watamaniuk have discussed a few of the spin-off games that might yet be.
You may want to skip this if you've yet to play the series through - there be mild spoilers ahead. Everybody clear? Right, on with the postulating.
The clear favourite for Shepard's replacement appears to be our old Turian chum Garrus, despite his insidious penchant for calibrating things. "There's so much that could be told in the Mass Effect universe," Hudson began. "It'd be cool to do something completely unrelated to the larger storyline, like a story about a private investigator on the Citadel. Or maybe something detailing Garrus' time in C-Sec."
Everman's also carrying a candle for the G-Man. "While being one of Shepard's most loyal friends, Garrus has also had some of the most driven personal goals. He's a hero in his own right, as Archangel and beyond. Who wouldn't want to see the further adventures of the bold, charming Garrus Valkarian (there's a lot of guns out there to calibrate)." Watamaniuk, however, reckons "a game centred on brutal Krogan combat with more of a melee focus could be pretty exciting". I'm sure Grunt would be up for it.
Walters can't make his mind up. "Aria. The Illusive Man. Kai Leng. Any henchman. The list goes on. I think most of them could have successful spin-offs of their own in some fashion." Aria, it's worth remembering, got storefront billing in Mass Effect 3's Omega DLC - on the strength of your adventures together, would you say she's got leading lady potential? And what about Mr Illusive? I reckon he'd do rather well out of a prequel set during the First Contact War.
Gamble, finally, thinks there's more to be told about Javik - the galaxy's sole surviving Prothean, introduced by the From Ashes DLC. "Following the story of Javik a little bit more would be pretty cool. As the last remaining member of a lost race, I think that we could tell a lot of stories about his adventures in the Milky Way, and coming to terms with his place in the new Galaxy."
Plenty of scope for discussion there - and indeed elsewhere in the feature, which includes thoughts on the playable characters and races that never were.

very interesting read I find it also interesting that they put this up now that the xcom shooter that has become third person had put out their stuff to game informer and it's showcasing the elements it has borrowed from the mass effect series thus in a way promoting Mass effect as a series even further. that's nice time on both their parts,

I guess it be cool to get a side story, focusing on the characters after the events of ME3. I'd really like to see the state of the Galaxy after the defeat of the Reapers and how they slowly start to rebuild everything. How does the team cope with the loss of Shepard, what are they doing right now? Did Shepard's love interest manage to find happiness again?

I'd love to see Garrus, Javik & Aria going around decimating all the galactic crime gangs out there. What a badass team.
