Capcom is re-releasing the six
Mega Man games made for NES again, but
Mega Man Legacy Collection has some neat editions for fans that own
Mega Man Anniversary Collection. Capcom and developer Digital Eclipse added a Challenge Mode which has players rush to defeat all of
Mega Man 2′s bosses or see how fast they can take down the Yellow Devil from the original
Mega Man.
I tried a couple of the challenges in
Mega Man Legacy Collection, the first blended stages from all six
Mega Man games in one challenge. This started on Cutmans stage from
Mega Man and after a fight with a Big Eye (the hopping one-eyed robots) a black hole whisked me to a stage from
Mega Man 2. Each stage transition reloaded Mega Man will a fully charged stock of weapons from the game he jumped into.
Challenges are timed, so I went straight for the Metal Blade to quickly slice through enemies. Sometimes its easier and faster to use items to avoid challenges. Item 2 in
Mega Man 2 creates a helpful rocket sled that allowed me to fly past bottomless pits in one of the
Mega Man 2 challenges. Players have five minutes to complete a challenge and your best time is saved. Heres a look at the challenges in the E3 demo:
Mega Man 1 6 (has levels from all six
Mega Man games)
Mega Man 1 Megamix (a remix challenge only with levels from
Mega Man 1)
Mega Man 1 Robot Rush
Yellow Devil (a battle with Dr. Wilys Yellow Devil)
Mega Man 2 Megamix
Mega Man 2 Robot Rush
Mega Man Legacy Collection has an awesome museum feature stuffed with concept art of Mega Man, enemies, robot masters, and even some unused monsters. Take a look at some of these boss candidates from
Mega Man 2.

These features are nice, but we wanted to test how accurate the games in
Mega Man Legacy Collection are to the originals.
Mega Man 1 has a bug that make Elec Mans Thunder Beam the most powerful weapon. If you pause and resume the game while the Thunder Beam is in the air it will hit enemies over and over again. This is probably the quickest way to takedown tough enemies like the Yellow Devil. Digital Eclipse left this trick in
Mega Man 1. Some areas even have a little slowdown when there are too many enemies on the screen.
Mega Man Legacy Collection comes out this summer for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo 3DS version is scheduled for release this winter.
