Action-Adventure The Official Metal Gear Movie Thread

It isn't going to happen but with the A-list fantasy cast these days I might go with Karl Urban as Solid Snake and Jackman as Big Boss.

Hugh Jackman would be great as Snake or maybe Josh Holloway:

He could be great but I think they should cast someone unknow who looks like Snake and has right voice.

I have no indication that this will be good. This just looks like a TASM situation all over again.

Avi Arad producing with a young up and coming director from an indie hit (probably makes it easier to control him) who of course would jump onto an opportunity like this. It's Sony too. Now granted, I've been wanting them to delve into video game films, but right now, what do they have that I can put my faith in?

Jackman as young Big Boss and Eastwood as him old....

Thy will be done

I'd be down with this!

I've had Jackman pegged down as Snake since like forever :hehe:

It would have to be him, because he literally is the embodiment...or an unknown.
When Hugh first hit the scene he would've been perfect for Snake. Now he's a bit too old for a rookie Snake. Also, his "unknown" status went out the window with the first X-Men.

I use to be on the Jackman Snake bandwagon but iv gone off, I dont really believe him as being a tough guy, what I really like about the Keanu idea is that Snake has always come across as kinda effeminate and aloof and I think Keanu could really play that type of character quite well..a mix of Mr Anderson and John Wick
I've heard great things about John Wick and I'm gonna watch it soon...but he's totally wrong for Snake.

I love Karl Urban. I certainly wouldn't complain if he's Snake...but if they plan on portraying a rookie Snake he may a bit too old. I DID love how he had sort of a Snake/Meryl relationship in Dredd tho!

I like Josh Holloway as Sawyer, but that's about it. I can't really see him as Solid Snake....but he'd make an AWESOME Snake Plissken!

I have no idea who could portray a rookie Snake. We essentially need a new young Hugh Jackman :hmm

Yeah Karl Urban was always one of my main picks for Batman before Affleck got the role. He really sold me in Dredd. He can obviously pull off that gruff voice and handle an action lead role. Solid Snake was in his early 30's in Metal Gear Solid wasn't he? Karl Urban is only 42 and can still pass for early 30's just looking at him. But the wheels on this film actually being made seem to be moving very slow which means it could never actually get made anytime soon.

It is also interesting you bring up John Wick which was one of my favorite action films I saw last year. I would prefer a director like that over the one that is attached now.

Yeh I never would have been someone to suggest Keanu but after John Wick I thought **** it..he could totally pull it off. It does help that John Wick is a pretty bad ass movie.

There are a few scenes in there that look like they could have come straight out of MGS: SOL

the boat scene was something you could see in MGS indeed.

I wonder if there are any good MGS fan trailers out there.

Has anyone else here watched MGS Philanthropy?

This one by solyentbrak1 is really well put together, though I wish the creator would have left out the MGS2/MGS4 music. Perhaps something that has more of a cinematic oomph? Or something that resembles the dark atomspheric-like music that's presented in the game.

I've watched Philanthrophy once during its release and found it incredibly boring with bleh original characters. However it definitely stands out from a lot of fan films.

They shouldn't make a Metal Gear movie. Why? It's already a movie. A movie where you get to control the main character.

This movie should feel like a comic book in the way T2 or The Matrix does. I would hate for it to go the realistic and super serious gritty route. one of my main problems with MGS4 was the clash of styles, it wanted to be black hawk down but still with its wacky mgs elements but it clashed too much.

Can you just imagine MGS directed by James Cameron. The dream

It's funny you mentioned that because I thought about that a while back when I was watching "Aliens" and thought about how perfect Metal Gear would be for Cameron considering Metal Gear was inspired in part by his movies. I decided to run with that idea and make a project of it. I'm in the process of illustrating an 80's style movie poster with Michael Biehn as Snake (he was the model for the cover of the MSX/NES version of the first Metal Gear), Sean Connery as Big Boss, Tom Barenger as Gray Fox, and Richard Crenna as Colonel Campbell (all of them were the basis for the in-game codec portraits).

I actually feel different here. I'm really eager to see how this film develops. To me there hasn't been any news released yet that makes me believe the film is completely doomed. The only thing I'm weary about is Jay Basu's announcement since Monsters 2 was criticized for being a generic action film with monsters as backdrops. I really want to read his script The Pier, since it's why he's supposedly in-demand now.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts is a huge fan of the games and importantly, he knows that the game's quirky moments is what makes the franchise unique. He also has Kong: Skull Island coming up with a rich cast, so he's getting there.

I know that Avi Arad is hated, but Kojima seems to have enough trust in him and the project (since it was cancelled over budget and creative reasons) now. Also there was a time Arad accompanied and supported David Hayter's pitch for his "dark and twisted Apocalypse Now" treatment when Hayter was pinning to write the adaptation. So maybe there's an ounce in him that's not so shallow? I think MGS has potential and shouldn't be dismissed as the usual videogame to movie failure, yet.

I think Jordan will be fine. I'm more worried about Arad wanting to control the whole thing, even though he's an elderly man who asked his personal assistant to play the games for him. That's the thing with video games - it's a deeply visceral experience. You summarize the plot all you want from the interns, but eventually you need to sit down and play the entire game to get it. That't the uniqueness to the video game as a genre.

We'll judge him in Suicide Squad :p

But he really does have the best look for Snake.
