I think Cavill and Shannon will work well together.

This movie is doomed.

Along with that, Superman: World of New Krypton.

i wonder if Michael Shannon did an audition with Henry Cavill. they NEED to have chemistry!!!

another parody of an Amy Adams complaint

That makes me worry about what Zod will do once Superman kneels before him.:csad:

Zod is good for a first film, especially a "beginnigs" film, as he allows for Clark to see that being Kryptonian in and of itself isn't what makes him special, or a hero, or good. Zod is kryptonian, yet is evil.

it's a nice thematic way of delivering the revelation that despite his origins, he is one of us, he is on the side of Humanity. He chooses humans, to protect rather than rule.

This then sets up nicely for the confrontation of all that can be wrong with humanity, personified by Luthor.

Anyone noticed that Shannon is a couple inches taller than Cavill? I wonder if that was intentional at all, to have a potentially more physically imposing villain.

I still don't get why people are mad. I'm sure once we see footage this will be completely different. People automatically think Superman 2. This is going to have a different plot, different look no silly, "What is this Earth?" and walking on the moon.

To me, it's about what makes the most sense in the story. Zod seems like the most logical choice. Especially if they're setting up this Kryptonian mythology. Shannon is a completely different actor than Stamp, and I'm sure Snyder is going to have use a better costume. If he does right it's going to be hard to compare Shannon and Stamp and their takes.

may i ask why so? why do you dislike him as a villain in general? have you read all the comic and seen the tv Zods?

what, specifically about Zod, is it that you don't like? because i think he's actually a great villain. he comes from Krypton so he knows the culture, the history, the MILITARY TACTICS, the technology, the advanced way of thinking and especially HIS PARENTS......combine that with Superman's powers and you have a formidable villain for Superman to face for his first great challenge.

Not to mention the recent comics have given him a nice backstory:

The back-story for the three Kryptonians was revealed in Action Comics Annual #10; Non had once been a brilliant scientist on par with Jor-El. Both were researching the event that would ultimately destroy Krypton. Zod entered their lab with troops (at this point Zod was still working for Krypton's Council). Both Jor-El and Non were arrested by Zod and given a warning by the High Council to halt their research, then released. Jor-El set to work creating the rocket that would send his son Kal-El to Earth, while Non began to spread the word of the planet's impending doom. Non's message swayed both Zod and Ursa that Krypton was soon to be destroyed. Non then disappeared from public life, only to return with a mutilated brain. The council had transformed him into a mindless brute and this act inspired Zod and Ursa to rebel against the Kryptonian government. Without any sense of right and wrong, Non now fought alongside Zod and Ursa. Zod attempted to recruit Jor-El to their cause; however Jor-El saw the plans were fueled by greed, a lust for power and violence.
This rebellion was short-lived and the rebels were again arrested and set to be executed. Not wishing to resort to execution, Jor-El appealed on their behalf, to exile them instead. The council accepted this on the condition that Jor-El would be the jailer. Thus Zod, Ursa, and Non were imprisoned, and embittered against Jor-El for years to come.

Great point, as it would show how Superman is a man of two worlds, representing the good from both.

This casting makes me wonder, is it possible that WB are rehashing an earlier draft of a script for a sequel to SR? Its been known to happen with reboots, aren't elements from the new spidey reboot being taken from a draft for SM4? And arent they written by the same writer?

If I am not mistaken was there not a sequel WB had in mind, and details were released that Zod would be involved? I could be wrong here, but who knows.

Borrowing elements from, maybe. It's probably no coincidence that Singer's sequel was also going to be called the Man of Steel.

Good post. :super:

Does WB have any other films coming out in next few weeks?

Twice in a row, when they release one and it doesn't do all that well at the BO, we have some Superman-related news come out on Sunday.

I'll admit, I'm a little disappointed that Mortenson didn't get the role, and I'm not familiar with Shannon. But I'm open to this.

And I don't have a problem with them reusing Zod as the villain.

Shelley Long and Ted Danson. They'll reprise their Cheers romantic tension for the ladies in the audience.

I get the feeling that a lot of people will think that the movie will be a rehash of Superman 2, just as they saw Superman Returns as a rehash of Superman: The Movie. If that's the case, then I'm interested in how this scene will look with modern special effects:

I swear, I am half way at the stage of ignoring this movie, I think that Zod comes off as a completely boring and really mundane villain. Whoever made this decision to put Zod in the movie needs to grow a 'pair', and to me it shows a lack of confidence in making a Superman movie with a fresh villain that hasn't been utilized in any of the previous Superman movies. I don't care if Zod is the main villain or if he isn't.

Hey all... first post.

I'm not too sure about Shannon playing Zod. This is my opinion, he looks more like Non, and is too young for Zod. And I don't think he could pull off a angry" English" sounding Kryptonian.

lol @ all the people in the comments section and on other sites saying they have no interest in this movie now

if you care enough to comment on this news, you will be sitting there opening day

He would be a great Jor-el
