The Official Michael Shannon IS General Zod - Part 2

I read Hush recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. Though I as rather confused when Jason showed up because I was already familiar with him as the Red Hood and his "return" in both arcs is similar.

Yeah, the Jason that showed up in Hush was Clayface but then they explained later that it was actually the real Jason (at first) and then he switched places with Clayface off-panel so Batman had no idea. Really lame, if you ask me.

My theory has always been that Hush was originally intended to be Jason but after fans figured it out (really early on) Loeb nixed that idea and decided to tease the readers with a fake appearance by Jason and just make Tommy Elliot the villain. It was a dumb move (IMO) because Tommy was pretty much the ONLY suspect the whole time aside from other villains who already have supervillain identities. And since they ended up bringing Jason back ANYWAY, they might as well have just followed what appeared to be their initial plan.

DC has a history of that kind of thing though. For example, if you've ever read the Armageddon 2001 series, Monarch was originally intended to be Captain Atom. However, the fans found out (not exactly sure how) so they nixed that at the last minute and instead made lameass Hawk turn out to be Monarch. Really bad idea... Atom would have owned as Monarch.

i am so happy that Shannon has a muscle suit on. that way he looks strong like Superman

He looks great but it would have been a bit more interesting if they added something a bit more militaristic to it. Maybe they'll do that in the official publicity still?

He doesn't need the dorky hat from the comics, just something that says "I am your superior", maybe even a little Stalinesque.

^^^

There is symbolism all over his stomach area (does anyone else see this?), looks nothing like Sups suit in that area. From what I can tell, theres much more going on here then we can see.

I'm in love with what I am seeing so far, I'm dieing inside for a clearer pic! lol

:)

I am pretty sure its 99.9% him and the padding is only there to highlight the muscles he already has.

Either that or he's using the Power of Grey Skull. :awesome:

I doubt it. He didnt look that big in the mocap-shot. And his legs are kinda scrawny compared to the arms. I think it's heavier padding than Cavill's.

Someone asked a question in another thread (I think) about what Kryptonese would sound like, and that got me thinking about something that would be interesting for this interpretation of Zod, in that he speaks English but with a Kryptonian accent. As someone who has already constructed their own language, I find it very interesting and if done right would add aot more depth to Zod's character. Let me explain the best way I can:

In the real world, those who speak English as a second or acquired language often insert sounds from their birth language into their English speak. So if Zod were pronouncing a "z" in English I imagine it would sound more like the "zh" sound you hear in "visiion", the sound "j" like in "Jor-El" would be softer and closer to "y" but still be recognizable as a Kryptonian pronounciation of its English equivalent.

Now, when Zod would address Kal-El himself, I hear that dash between the Given-Clan name arrangement almost as a glottal stop. It's a little hard to explain if you aren't familiar with linguistics but I'll use Terrance Stamp's "Kalel" (pronounced as, seemingly, one word in the Reeve films) as a base reference. So instead of "Kalel" we'd hear a more distinctive "Kal'El", where there is a slight vocal stop in the back of the throat.

The difficulty is a Kryptonian accent could come off really cheesy if it's done very flippantly. But then again these are just thoughts I have, and probably won't be in the film when all is said and done.

i respect fans thinkin that Cavill is so big. they wrong but i respect it.

i can no accept that any fan on this planet could think that Michael Shannon has that big arms. :woot:

Michael Shannon's arms don't look anywhere near Cavill's arms when in the suit.

That might be something used like this:

I'm hoping Zod only wears armor at first, then when he realizes he doesn't need it on earth he just wears the Kryptonian suit in the last set pics.

what do you mean at first? the fight with the mocap suit is at the end.

Zod may take it off but put right back on because it's his uniform. He's not ashamed of his heritage.

No one knows the timeline of the movie yet, and chances are none of us will until it's release.

For all we know, Shannon in the MoCap suit can be holograms shown to Sups of Zod from Krypton in his Generals suit, warning Sups of Zods arrival.

Its all speculation at this point.

speaking of Kryptonese and what it might sound like........

don't know how accurate this is.....

but in Superman/Batman: Supergirl, when Kara first arrives in Gotham and appears naked in front of the 3 guys in the alley, she speaks Kryptonese to them. One of the guys remarks that she must be some kind of "Swedish" model or something like that.......

so perhaps Kryptonese sounds Swedish or European.......

Yeah I remember that scene. But those guys were dumb****s haha

The comparison was likely in response to her being slim, blond, and gorgeous. They probably didn't even hear her.

you forgot naked..........the most important part to those guys.......:o :awesome:

He might arrive in the armor at first, and once it is destroyed by Superman, Zod would finally (probably, maybe, who knows?) step out of the armor to reveal himself for the first time.

Smart-armor would be a nice touch and then I hope it's emerald-green or crimson-red and not just dull black.

A red suit of Kryptonian armor for Zod would be pretty awesome. Red is one of his colors.

Personally, I like the idea that Zod and his cohorts escape the Phantom Zone in basically prison suits, possibly marked by the emblem of the House of El to show who their jailer is. Then, after flying around for a while, Zod decides it's time to conquer Earth and so he and his allies change into their uniforms/armor, so we get Zod and Faora switching into wicked looking armor, proudly sporting their own symbol, and when they actually fight, they might have a small tactical advantage.
