The Official Michael Shannon IS General Zod - Part 2

I don't think he's confirming that there is a phantom zone. I think his statement was more general, as in the character and what happens to him will be different, not that the phantom zone will be different.

Agreed.

The other guy mentions 'You know you were in a glass prison' and his reply is 'Yeah, that whole set up is going to be a bit different'.

Could be that the difference is there is no phantom zone. Who knows.

If those phantom zone mirrors are in the movie again I'll lose my faith totally.

Yeah, I found the interview after I posted the other article and he didn't really say anything specific about the Phantom Zone.

I agree but... it could be worse.

Shannon never specifically says that the Phantom Zone is in the movie.

Early drafts of the Man Of Steel script feature Zod and company being on earth for a good while and "monitoring" the area of Kal-El's crash site, interested in reported feats beyond a normal man in that general vicinity. Not only were other Kryptonians tracking Kal-El but so is the military.

In this scenario, the Kryptonians were banished to Earth. Kryptonian council looked at at life on Earth as a punishment so it tossed out it's worst criminals to various locations on the planet.

See some of that sounds interesting...

But if Kryptonians thought Earth was a punishment, and a number of their criminals were sent there... why would Jor-el send his only son there?

Well, your child could either be raised among what was seen as lesser beings, believing he's one of them and knowing nothing about his homeworld and never learning to look down on humans or be exploded.

The criminals wouldn't be able to tell Jor-El's baby from any other baby and Kryptonians weren't aware that Earth's sun gave them powers so I don't see why they'd see a problem.

More likely they (Zod & Co.) would just be banished from Krypton and take up Earth as home on their own because of the ability to blend in. Zod takes interest in Superman "sightings" for obvious reasons, then once he realizes who he is (his enemy's son), all hell breaks loose.

Why send criminal to a planet where they would be able to take over with ease???? I thought Jor El had knowledge that the Yellow Sun would give his sone increadible abilities

ANd why would they wait to impose power until Superman arrived, why not just take over...... makes no sense IMO

I'd assume Jor-El didn't know. We're all guessing. It's a draft for a movie we haven't read that might not even be in the final movie.

It's looking more and more like we'll spend a decent time on Krypton. Can't wait to see what Snyder's take on that is.

Poor guy already looks tired of having to answer questions about a movie he hasnt even finished shooting yet. He always looks pissed off though.

I prefer to read his interviews.

The guy just has a really off putting tone of voice, body language etc... its like impossible to tell the difference between a joke and a serious comment unless you get the context.

It's like, when he's talking about Cavill he sounds bored and like the guy had no impact on him whatsoever in the one scene they have done. But if you were just looking at what he actually said, I don't think it'd come across that way.

Good interviews. I like Shannon, really cannot wait to see him as Zod.

Occasionally on some past interviews I felt that way. However the Empire interviews he is pretty straight forward and you know when he's joking or more serious. I mean "Get on your tippy toes for Zod" is pretty obvious ;)

"Arrange your body and limbs into the position you feel most suits your comfort needs before Zod!"

I do the same, its interesting on one hand when heath was asked questions about the joker before he died he seemed shy and nervous like he was gonna screw it up but with shannon you just get a pissed off vibe from him like he just wants to act and be left alone. It also doesnt help he's promoting a movie that no one will see and they just want to ask him questions about a movie 2 years away.

Shannon has the personality of a guy from a Hangover movie, yet he has tremendous acting talent completely separating from his own personality. It is a bit bizarre but quite amazing if you think about it.

I got the perfect kneeling scene. Ok, Zod, at some point in the movie, encounters some random human. Zod descends from the sky before him, "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD".

Random guy: "what’s in it for me?"

Zod: "I shall allow you to live!"

Random guy: "k since you insist buddy" **** kneels on one knee, bows his head ******

Zod: *****pause, stares with his mouth open, breathes very shollow and sweat beads his forehead, color returns to him, and he sharply takes a deep breath****** "ohhhhhh yeah....that’s some good kneeling! ohhhh that was great!!!! You reaaaally know just how to please Zod! Now tell Zod; was that as good for you as it was for me?"

The good thing about this scene is it will make the audience uncomfortable, which all good monsters and villains should do.

Now for fun you should try writing some comedy.

That was nicely done sir :D If Shannon actually said that in the interview, a bit of residual spit would have gotten on my macbook from a strong chuckle.
